Greetings!
When I was in school, I despised when a teacher had us work
on group projects; I always ended up doing all the work because I didn't trust
that the other students in my group would do a good job or do the job at all. I
would spend countless hours researching, building dioramas, putting science
projects together or whatever the assignment called for. I was a one-man team. In
the corporate world, however, things are much different and my approach and the
way I operate are 180 degrees from those middle school days. Strong group
dynamics and successfully completing "group projects" are essentially the way a
great company functions every single day. Every employee or group member is an
integral part of the team and directly responsible for the outcome. Too often business owners morph into micro-managers, which
forces employees to become overly dependent, stifling themselves from learning
and growing with the company. When an employee realizes he makes a difference
and is directly responsible for results, he feels engaged, takes initiative and
contributes his full talents and ideas.A good employer can follow the train and trust school
of thought - train your employees so
they have the foundation, tools, and resources to perform at their highest
level, and then trust that they will
make the right decisions and work to the best of their ability, always keeping
the group goal in mind. The only way a business can grow and succeed is by
working like a well-oiled machine, where every employee is empowered to make
decisions, is held accountable for their actions and takes responsibility,
which ultimately increases productivity and efficiency.
