February 2012
Greetings!
Porini Mara lion kill - G Healey

You never know what you'll see when you're on a game drive.  You might never see a pangolin.  You might stumble upon a leopard when no one has seen one in the area for a week.  You could go days without seeing lions.

When you've finally stopped looking for them, you'll turn a corner and there will be twenty six lions right in front of you - lolling about and stretching and generally behaving in that lazy way that lions have.  When you get your fill of gazing at them, you're off to see what else is out there.  Elephants, zebra, impalas - there's always something.  Then out of the corner of your eye, you spot a lion.  Then another and another.  They are chasing something.

You high-tail it over there and find yourself in the middle of the struggle for survival; the lions are trying to make a kill and you are one of a very small number of humans in the world lucky enough to be in the right place at the right moment.

There is always something new to discover on safari.  I've spent a lifetime exploring Africa and every time I turn a corner, I find a surprise.  May your journeys be full of the same sense of discovery.

Tanzania Trip Spotlight

Tanzania celebrated 50 years of independence in December 2011.  To recognize this milestone, Africa Adventure Consultants will highlight a special Tanzania itinerary every month in 2012.  Tanzania offers a wealth of experiences and we want you to get to know the Tanzania that we treasure.

AfricAid Kisa ScholarsThis month, we'll look at a special trip we have scheduled for June, 2012.  AAC has a commitment to and partnership with AfricAid, a non-profit organization that helps provide educational opportunities for girls in Tanzania.  Our 2nd annual AfricAid's Tanzania safari starts on June 10th and takes a small group for a look at the girls' homes, schools and communities. The trip also raises scholarship funds for AfricAid.

It also includes a fantastic wildlife safari.  Guests will visit Tarangire with its beautiful baobab trees and elephant herds, and visit the world famous Ngorongoro Crater with the incredible diversity of animals that call it home.  From there, it's off to Serengeti to bring those National Geographic shows to life.  It ends with a stay on an organic farm in the Ngorongoro Highlands where you can learn about the farm itself and the local Maasai culture.

This trip is the perfect combination of wildlife and culture, all in comfortable lodgings.  Learn more about last year's trip or call us to reserve your place for our June 2012 departure.  Don't delay - bookings for this trip close on March 15th, 2012!

The ratel is known for being among the most fearless animals in Africa. This small, stocky animal has a fondness for honey, which is why it is also commonly known by another name.  What is it?
