ClayHouston opening packs gallery!
The opening night of our third annual ClayHouston juried show was a big success. "The Spirit of Clay" theme was evident as attendees got into the spirit of the evening chatting with the artists and generally partaking of refreshments and good cheer. Awards were announced as the crowd mingled and admired the diversity of the work.
The festivities continued the next day when both locations had demonstrations drawing scores of interested watchers. A special event combining music along with clay throwing was a definite crowd pleaser. Andre and Virginia Bally of the ClayHouston Guild did a great job of coordinating the weekend.

Happy 70th birthday to
"The Wizard of Oz"!
This iconic film is firmly placed in American cultural consciousness. In fact, this 1939 American musical/fantasy film is deemed the most famous film ever made, the most watched film in history, and the most loved film of all time. Certainly by the age of five most children have the dialog memorized!
It's most famous song, "Over the Rainbow" won "Best Song" at the Oscars that year while the movie was beat out in the "Best Picture" category by "Gone with the Wind". In fact, "Over the Rainbow" was almost permanently deleted because of the length of the film but went on to be voted the greatest American movie song of all time by The American Film Institute. Facts are from Wikipedia where you can read more of about its fastinating history.
Saavy jewelry designer, Jill Elizabeth, has used this event as inspiration for several new additions to her collectible pin line. Each pin comes with a story card that explains its origin, shows a picture of the artists, and tells how to care for it. These pins are one of the galleries' most sought after gifts...even when the gift is for yourself. Jill's pins start at $38. Click here to see just a few of the styles stocked at Hanson Galleries.

McClelland's scrimshaw returns to the Gallery
Traditional art form reproduced in polymer resin
Many of our customers will remember the scrimshaw jewelry we carried by this artist couple, Kim and Katherine McClelland. They have taken their work to a new level with these framed pieces for the wall or tabletop. Each design is named giving added meaning to the piece. The one pictured is "I am my beloved's, my beloved is mine" from the Old Testament. Kim's imagery is extensive and combines traditional and contemporary designs. Click here to see some of our pieces from stock. Prices start at $80.

Happy Fall!
Just a year ago we were all suffering through the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. Since then, we have developed more of a connection to our community...supporting friends, neighbors, and local businesses through the rough times. We thank you for your friendship, your concerns, and your support. You've helped us make this September the best we've had in several years, and we couldn't stay in business without you.
We at Hanson Galleries hope to see you again soon when you need something special or just want to stop in and chat. Remember we are open seven days a week at both locations.
Most sincerely,
Art, Donna, Larry and the entire team at Hanson Galleries
