"Best Customer Newsletter"
The Niche Awards Ceremony was held on August 1st in Philadelphia. Craft businesses were nominated in eleven categories by craft artists across the nation. Hanson Galleries was then juried the "Best Customer Newsletter" for 2009.
Donna Milstein, owner, accepts the award from Wendy Rosen, publisher of Niche Magazine, who is the sponsor of the annual Niche Awards for craft retailers.
Hanson Galleries produces a newsletter each month changing the format and design to keep customers interested. It is sent out electronically. New work, special events, surveys, announcements, and human interest stories are usually included, but the photos and hotlinks get the most attention.
For the past two years Donna has created the newsletters using Constant Contact. She has become a certified instructor for them and has taught seminars across the country trying to involve as many small businesses as she can in this marketing practice.

The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.
The U.S. Commerce Association's mission is to be an advocate for small and medium size businesses and business entrepreneurs across America.
This is Hanson Galleries second year to receive this award. Art and Donna say, "Without our customers' support of American crafts we could not have received this award. Thank you!"

Bill Tilson
Artist Without Peer 1945-2009
 Hanson Galleries has represented this fine artist's work for several years and we mourn his loss. He was known for his extraordinary veneer approach as seen in his "Spring Dance: Parents with Firstborn." Teachers of woodworking as far away as Italy use his body of work as an example of what to strive for in artistic achievement.

Noticed in the business pages recently, an article stated that lay-a-ways were coming back into fashion with the challenging economy. Well, Hanson Galleries has never stopped offering them for the past 31 years. We always have packages on the lay-a-way shelf!
Our customers learned a long time ago that when our unusual work was gone, it was gone. So if there is a piece that really speaks to you, put it in lay-a-way.
We become your storage place (or hiding place) for gifts until you need them.

New Artist Foster Holcombe
Handblown glass
Holcombe heads up a four-person studio where each glassblower brings his own unique, individual designs. Together they make many collaborative pieces as well. While attending a seminar in 1978 at the famous Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, Foster first observed hot glass being made and then furthered his education of it in England. The studio also gives glass blowing classes as well as producing wonderful glass artwork. Both of our locations have distinctive pieces to choose from or see them all here.

Several months ago we announced to our customers that we were proud to be a part of this growing movement in the United States that is designed to save small , independent businesses like ours.
It is now being explained on national television and in print everywhere you turn.
While big corporations are getting all the notice (and the billions of dollars) in the economic recovery package, we small entrepreneurs are having to design our own methods of staying in business, maintaining our employees and keeping the dollars in our cities!
