100 Men or More
As of this writing, The 100 Men or More campaign is definitely "or More". 143 men in our community have gathered together through this campaign to take a stand against domestic and sexual violence!

All of the men will be publicly recognized in community flyers, on the 100 Men or More Campaign Page, and in the Midland Daily News during Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

The excitement is building for another  great season of Girls on the Run (GOTR) with 13 - 15 teams forming throughout the county.  Fall brings the added excitement of Shelterhouse interns and work study students to the program too. YOU can be a part of the building excitement... just email  Sara Jacobs-Carter to volunteer with GOTR and let her know you'd like to help with the GOTR mission of "inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running."

United Way of Midland Highlights a Shelterhouse Client in their 2012 Campaign.
Domestic Violence; it could never happen to me. Meet Ann, a Shelterhouse Client who has chosen to share her story for the 2012 Midland United Way Campaign. Ann was married for 34 years, when her husband was in an accident and needed pain killers for his injuries and addiction changed him. Listen to her story; this is why Shelterhouse is here 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
"Ann's emotional journey serves as an inspiration for so many in our community. Her journey from victim to victory offers hope for others impacted by violence." - United Way of Midland County's Website

"Ann, like so many of our survivors, is succeeding not only because of her actions but because we are fortunate to live in a community that cares for one another."

         -Vicky, Shelterhouse Client Advocate

Shelterhouse is thankful to be a United Way agency. We gain valuable financial and human resources as a result of United Way involvement. Over 90% of the United Way dollars received by Shelterhouse goes directly to client services.

Thank you for your Back-to-School Generosity
Not only were free back-to-school supplies part of the day, so were food, activities, great entertainment, and informational tables. Jeans and backpacks and school supplies got clients and their families ready for school. Thank you to everyone who generously donated clothes and supplies to make this event happen; it was truly appreciated.

Shelterhouse Gladwin would like to say a special "thank you" to volunteers, Renee Benser-Swanstra and Sue Case for creating a successful Gladwin Back-to-School event. Over thirty-five Shelterhouse clients and their children came to the little store which was set up for their needs and convenience. Every child went home with at least three new or slightly used outfits, new or slightly used shoes, backpacks and school supplies. A special thank you also goes to Members First Credit Union which held a special fundraiser and donated  back-packs, school supplies, and a cash donation to Shelterhouse-Gladwin.
Shelterhouse Children's Program
Did you know?
The Shelterhouse Children's Program provides individual, family, and group counseling to children and adolescents impacted by domestic and/or sexual violence within Gladwin and Midland Counties.  Children and teens who have been sexually abused or impacted by domestic violence work closely with Shelterhouse client advocates and therapists.

As part of the healing process, they learn to identify and talk about their feelings and experiences, and they are further empowered with training in safety skills.
