History of the Calgary Stampede Parade

Parade History

The Stampede Experience

Parade Rituals: Getting up with the roosters, pulling on cowboy boots, and dusting off hats retrieved from the back of the closet - for thousands of people, these rituals spell the start of the annual pilgrimage to downtown Calgary to experience the parade that kicks off the annual 10-day Stampede. Every year, weather is one of the biggest question marks for parade day. Fortunately, Calgarians are accustomed to dressing for any weather, even if parkas and blankets must join the boots and hats as part of their outfits.

A Calga"RAY" Opportunity!...

Interested in earning some extra money for the Calgary trip?

Your Second Time Arounders are working with the Tampa Bay Rays to provide FUNdraising opportunities this season toward YOUR personal Calgary trip fees.

Sign up to work concessions at Tropicana Field, with your fellow canadian moneyRounders, and all monies earned by you for your efforts go to you...toward Calgary!

A few things we do know: 1) We need to commit soon! 2) Free parking for workers 3) Workers get a meal ticket for food ("pass me some rays logopeanuts and Cracker Jack...") 4) Most weekday games start around 7PM but some start around 4PM.  5) Staffing needs will fluctuate with attendance 6) The stand/shift "manager" needs to arrive 90 minutes prior to the game 7) "Volunteers" need to arrive 30-60 minutes prior to the game.

Your Rounders board is looking for a program coordinator, shift leads (more Calgary credit), andhot dog volunteers to work one-to-twenty-four games (that would be you...at a minimum of $45.00 per game...why not?).

 "This and That"...
  •  J.F. Thomas wants to let everyone know that the band will not be using a National Flag Pageant in Calgary or for the 2011 season.  While the NFP is certainly a nice occasional addition to the band, jfthis decision is based on creative plans already in place for the 2011.

Previous NFP members who are interested in performing in 2011 and in Calgary are welcomed to join other pageantry groups (letter carriers, banner carriers, honor guard) but it's important to note that ALL auxiliary groups must follow the established band attendance policy: Members must attend ALL 2011 rehearsals and performances.

If unable to meet the attendance policy, I hope folks will still want to travel with the band to Calgary and enjoy the trip as a tag along!

  • Are you in uniform?? Uniform hats and shirts are available just before rehearsal and at the break. Hats are $10.00 and Shirts $15.00-$18.00 (depending on size). Optional fanny packs ($10.00) and Rounder or Calgary pins ($5.00) are also for sale. As reminder, everyone in the band must wear dark blue "Docker" style pants and white shoes with no markings. Belts must be black or dark blue. White socks.

  • The Rounders are also offering optional sweatshirts and jackets for sale. Just see Polly at the uniform table! This is the last week for orders!!

  • Lynn from Bringe will have flip folders, folder pages, and music lights (remember the night parade!!) at practice this Tuesdaybringe (how convenient is that???). Please order ahead if you need anything else (lyres or reeds, etc) at 727.822.3460. Thanks Lynn! Bringe Music is a long time charter supporter and sponsor of your Second Time Arounders!

  • Feeling lucky? Remember a few dollars for the nightly Rounders 50/50 drawing. Take a chance, support your Rounders, and maybe walk away with the big prize!
