A couple quick notes...
Wow...was that a great first rehearsal or what. One of the best sounds and attendance in the last several years. Great job Rounders!
Did you hear the trombone section on "Get It On"? It shows they had a couple of practices in the off season. Nice job Bones...!
And what about our percussion section and the new Cadence? One of the best first full band rehearsals in recent memory!
Most of our musicians haven't seen them yet but JF Thomas has over 120 auxiliary members twirling and marching their hearts out already. This was their third rehearsal!
We covered a few "rough spots" in the music last rehearsal. Please take the time to work them out at home (you know who you are)!
On Saturday, March 20, the band will be marching in the Chasco Fiesta Parade in Pasco County. We will be meeting around 10:00 a.m.that morning at Ferg's in St. Pete (Tropicana Field) and riding buses to the parade. The buses are free for performing band members and $10.00 for tagalongs. Please sign up at practice next week if you need to ride the bus. North county folks can meet us at the parade site A band party will commence at Ferg's upon our return that afternoon.
See you Tuesday at Rehearsal!

Rounders Attendance Policy...
As we continue our 2010 season...the topic of attendance remains on our minds.
The Rounders are an amazing organization made up of unique individuals from many walks of life. You are a "volunteer" here because you love this organization and because of your love of playing music (must be close to Valentines day with all these "L" words). We want you here...en masse...as one of the many things that make our Rounders so unique is our combination of size and quality.
Being said...we have such a short time together in rehearsal toward placing this quality product on the Street. Each rehearsal builds on the last toward perfecting not only the notes, but also any cuts, tempo changes, dynamic needs, and intonation challenges that, left un-checked, will deteriorate the quality of our sound and performance.
On the Street...our minimal marching practice(s) need each individual member to focus on the difference between left-right-left and right-left-right; as well as your 4-step spacing and your alignment with your center-guide. There is a lot to perfect in just a few short rehearsal hours.
In years past...we have had members come to perform after only attending a rehearsal-or-two. This is a Directors nightmare. Your creative staff needs to take a hard-stance on attendance this year, and in subsequent years, toward placing the highest quality, largest-sized performing group possible in front of the community.
So...what is policy?
First...we recognize that you are a volunteer...and Thank You! But to perform as a Rounder, we ask that you plan to be at 100% of the rehearsals. Rehearsals are scheduled WELL in advance as a guide for you to work around and plan for. "Stuff" happens...and if your circumstances see you missing one rehearsal, we'll look the other way (as we know you'll be practicing hard as make-up!). Unfortunately...if you find yourself needing to miss two, we do want you back as a Rounder and look forward to your participation the following year. Simple enough?
As for our performances. We've chosen key events this season to highlight your talents and the ever infamous Rounders Sound! All of our rehearsals and social interaction large just leading-up to these key events. Whether it be our "local" gigs in St. Pete...or the highly anticipated Chasco Parade in New Port Richey; performances are mandatory with very few exceptions.
We can only think back to the near disastrous field show prior to Macy's where, at Tarpon Springs High School, in front of a LARGE crowd 60-or-more Rounders chose not to participate. What product was placed on the field THAT night?
We want you there...and, frankly, need you there at each and every event as what would the Rounders be without YOU anyway?
So as we start 2010...have fun, enjoy the camaraderie, come to rehearsal, and come to each performance. This is part of what keeps this organization (YOUR organization) successful and keeps the community wanting more.
Best!
Your Rounders Board and Creative Staff. |

Still Chili...!
Speaking of Chili...I so humbly apologize for missing a couple of "Thank You's" for the outstanding Chili Cook-Off event and Fundraiser a couple of weeks ago. Missed it? What were you thank thinking!
In addition to the winners, organizers, and sponsors accoladed last E...the Rounders would like to sincerely thank:
Ferg's for hosting the event (we'll be back for a party or two!)
Our Celebrity Judges:
- Frank Schnittino who came back for the 2nd time of torment.
Frank is the owner and chef of Café Cibo located at 8697 4th Street N in St. Pete. Great food!
- Lou Shorr is radio and TV personality of Fooding Around New England. He is Trish St Denis' brother and came in from Boston just for us!
And...to the DJ's at Ferg's who really livened the even-up! Reflections Entertainment's DJ "Hurricane" Chris and "Mad Man" Mac. Please let Ferg's know how much you appreciated them! mark@fergsonline.com
Thanks again to Shelly Anderson for chairing the event. She's already working on the third annual! |
