Retirement Dinner reservations are filling up. Sign up soon!

As previously announced in the Apostles News,  one of the events honoring David Harper on his retirement is a Retirement Dinner on September 27, 2012 at the Grand Atrium. There is limited seating for this event and reservations are required. If you intend to reserve a space for the dinner please do so very soon, as spaces are filling up quickly. You may make contact Sue Nystrom  for more information.

A Family Picnic Celebration is planned for the entire congregation and their guests on David's last Sunday as our Rector, September 30, immediately following the 3:30pm worship service. The church will provide hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks, and we are asking everyone to bring a dish to share. We want this to be a fitting and glorious send-off for God's precious servants as we bathe them in love and prayer.

Yippee!Combined Worship Service  and Picnic with
Whole Word Fellowship

 Sunday, August 12
10:30am

Church of the Apostles Anglican will join with our hosts, Whole Word Fellowship, and The Gate (a ministry that meets at WWF on Saturday evenings) for a combined worship service and picnic lunch on Sunday, August 12 at 10:30am. We will not hold our 3:30pm service that day, so mark this on your calendars!

Picnic Details: The picnic will be catered by Red, Hot & Blue. There is no charge for the meal; however, a donation box will be set out for anyone who would like to make a donation towards the cost of the food. The picnic lunch will include sandwiches (pulled pork, beef brisket and pulled chicken); potato salad; cole slaw; baked beans; macaroni and cheese; lots and lots of BBQ sauce; watermelon and desserts. (We are asking people to volunteer to bring cut-up watermelon and desserts.) The churches will provide all paper products and drinks.

The food serving tables will be set up in the Fellowship Hall. Tables at which to sit for the picnic will be set up both outside on the lawn and inside the Fellowship Hall. Please bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for outdoor seating.

Volunteers Needed: To help make this a wonderful day of fellowship for all, we need lots of volunteers! If you can do only one of these, that would be a wonderful help. (Of course, if you want to do more than one, you're welcome!) To sign up, contact our Membership Team Leader at terrycfrench@gmail.com or 703-449-1763. Here are ways you can help:

  1. Help with set-up before the 10:30am worship service.
  2. Help with clean-up after the picnic.
  3. Bring cut-up watermelon for the picnic (There will not be room in the kitchen to cup it up at the church, so please bring watermelon pre-sliced).
  4. Bring a dessert (finger-food type is best).

Activities: There will be lots of fun for all ages! We'll have a Fishing Derby in the pond at the back of the property, Horseshoes, a Moon Bounce, a SnoCone machine, and lots of games.

We're looking forward to this day of worship, celebration and fun with our own congregation and with our friends from Whole Word and The Gate. Please mark August 12 (at 10:30am!) on your calendar, and feel free to bring a friend with you that day!

How good and pleasant it is when brothers

live together in unity!   Psalm 133:1

Bake Sale Fundraiser for

Summer Camp

This Sunday, July 22, after the service

On Sunday, July 22, please join the Children's Ministry for a bake sale after the service.  The bake sale will coincide with Coffee Hour which is held in the Fellowship Hall. Please come and enjoy some fellowship and some yummy goodies! The purpose of the bake sale is to raise funds for Summer Camp Scholarships.

Summer Camp at Highroads is the highlight of the Summer! Kids ranging in age from 9-14 come together for a week of camp fun. The children who have attended Camp have life-changing experiences and encounter God in meaningful ways.

If you would like to donate baked goods, please bring them to the Fellowship Hall before the service. Your goodies should be precut and on a disposable tray. If you are interested in helping, please email   KColligan@ChurchoftheApostles.org.

Summer is a great time to enjoy good reading, and time for the Women's Ministry's Summer Book Club! The first book club meeting for the summer will be on Wednesday, July 25, 7:30-9:30pm, at Barbara Kelly's home. Women of all ages are invited and your  friends are welcome, too. The group will discuss Laura Hillenbrand's book, Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption. Unbroken is a biography of World War II hero, Louis Zamperini, a former Olympic track star who survived for more than two and half years in several brutal Japanese internment camps as a prisoner of war.

Pictorial Directory

You read that right -- our church will be getting a new Pictorial Directory! We heard your many requests for pictures to be included in the next directory, so we're making arrangements to have that done. The company we'll work with will give each congregant a free directory, and you will also receive one free photograph of your choosing. You will get to decide, at the time of your sitting, which photo you'd like included in the directory. Of course, the company will offer photo packages for sale; however, you are not obligated to purchase anything and there is no fee for the sitting. More details to come, but for now be practicing your winning smile!

Women's TPM Group Open House

Wednesday, September 12

A Theophostic Prayer Ministry (TPM) group for women will be open to new members beginning in September, with an Open House on Wednesday, September 12. The Open House will be an opportunity to watch a short video explaining the TPM process and the class, meet other women currently taking the TPM Training Class and others considering the new class, share some refreshments, and get answers to any questions you may have about TPM or the Training Class.

The TPM Training Class, which will begin on Wednesday, September 19,  is an opportunity to learn to do TPM as well as receive ministry from fellow team members. Understanding the process helps you go deeper, and being part of a group makes regular, ongoing ministry more available. Lives are being transformed in our groups and we'd love to have you be a part of it. Contact Betsy Stalcup, Associate Director of the Healing Center, at emstalcup@gmail.com to get more information.

Individual Appointment

To receive an individual Theophostic Prayer Ministry appointment from two members of our trained team, please email TPM@ChurchoftheApostles.org. We'll get back with you to set up the appointment. While you wait for our response and your appointment time, you can prepare by reading the first three chapters of Healing Life's Hurts Through Theophostic Prayer, which can be read online or purchased at www.theophostic.com.

Just need practice?

If you trained before and just need to brush up on your skills, contact Cheryl Collins. A practice group meets in her home on Thursdays at 4:30 PM.

Share What God Has Done

Testimony@ChurchoftheApostles.org

We are all encouraged to hear how God is healing bodies and transforming lives! Please share your testimony of what God has done in your life through our shared ministry by sending an email to David Harper.

Or you may jot it down on paper and place it in the offering plate on Sunday afternoon. Each weekend at the door to the sanctuary you will also find a small rack with not only the Sermon Notes, but  a dedicated form (it's purple) that you can use for sharing a testimony, word of knowledge, or prophesy.
