Back to Life, Back to Reality!

This summer has been anything but lazy for us, although we did manage to have our moments of fun. Now we are ready to dive head first into Fall - new events, new inventory, and lots of new ideas to make our store and our service to you even better (for instance, we just lowered the prices on all of our liquor!).

Whatever you do, please read the events section of this newsletter, and check the event page of our website once a week. We have a full four months of incredible, blockbuster events and tastings coming up and we don't want you to miss any of them!

Thank you for your continued patronage and we will see you at The Urban Grape very soon.

Urban Tastings

Don't forget to join us for our weekly tastings, held every Thursday and Friday from 5-7pm and every Saturday from 2-5pm. In addition to our weekly tastings, we have an incredible array of fun, educational and FREE events on our September calendar:

event, we have added an additional Kosher Wine and Scotch Tasting. Move
beyond Manischewitz by tasting exceptional Kosher wines from around the world!

September 11th, 2-5pm, Indian Summer Grand Rosé Tasting: The record breaking
hot weather we've had this summer is sure to keep us in flip flops until October, and
drinking Rosé until Thanksgiving! Join us for a Rosé grand tasting and stock up on
these flirty, refreshing wines!

September 14th, 6-7pm, Progressive Set Up Education Series: The first in our
new monthly series, we will taste through several different Chardonnays to help our
customers understand the Progressive Set Up, and why we use it at the store.

team as they taste us through their new vintages - including some new varietals and
unique special order bottles.

September 24th, 5-8pm, Slane Castle Irish Whiskey Tasting and Bottle Signing:
A family that's been making Irish Whiskey since 1701 should know what it's doing! Join

and Mick, for this exclusive tasting and bottle signing. This is his only New England signing!

September 25th, 2-5pm, Wine Riot Preview Tasting: Join members of The Second
Glass as they sell discount tickets to the Wine Riot and taste us on wines they will be
featuring at the event. Will also unveil The Urban Grape's Wine Riot Scavenger Hunt!

September 27th, 6-8pm, Wine Lover's Devotional Book Signing and Tasting:
Join Jonathon Alsop of The Boston Wine School as we celebrate the launch of his new
book. He will be reading, signing, and tasting us on some of his favorite wines!

And if you love Sake, save the date for October 2nd when Richard Auffrey will help
us celebrate National Sake Day with a Sake Grand Tasting. We will also unveil our
new and improved Sake section!

2007 Ehlers Estate Merlot   $50

TJ calls this wine the "best American Merlot he's ever had." He also loves that it is organically and biodynaically grown in Napa, on a reclaimed vineyard that has been making wine since 1886.

Hadley loves that 100% of the profits go to support the Leducq Foundation
for international cardiovascular research (Now look again at the label. Clever, huh?).
They have donated almost $200,000,000 in the last ten years!!!

Whatever the reason that gets you to try this wine, it's a keeper that you will want
in your cellar. The winemakers say the winning combination is the fusion of "an
outstanding wine growing estate, environmental consciousness, and international
philanthropy." We say it tastes great, ages better, and is good for your heart (a glass
of red wine a day!) and soul.

Only 1860 cases of the 2007 Merlot were produced, 56 came to Massachusetts - and we
have four cases at The Urban Grape just waiting for you.  To your health!

New England Gourgeres

New England Gourgeres

We love Robin Cohen. A local food writer and blogger, Robin is passionate about preserving traditions while also updating them. She is a dedicated locavore who inspires us to seek out the best New England has to offer. As our host for the Kosher with a Kick wine tasting in August, Robin showed our guests how to incorporate seasonal delicacies into a traditional Rosh Hashana or Yom Kippur meal. Here she tempts us with tasty Gourgeres, which TJ has paired with a delicious Kosher Pinot Noir from Italy.

1 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
6 Tbs Butter
1 cup Water
4 Eggs
1 1/4 cup Sharp Cheddar Cheese, shredded
2/3 cup Peeled Apple, finely diced
1/3 cup mild Blue Cheese, crumbled finely
Dash of Nutmeg

- Heat the oven to 400 degrees and line two cookie tins with parchment paper.
- Place butter and water in a medium saucepan over low heat.
- Cook until butter melts, do not allow to boil.
- Add in flour and turn up heat to medium high.
- Stir constantly until a ball of dough forms.
- Remove from heat and place the dough ball in the bowl of a stand mixer with
  fitted with the paddle attachment.
- Start the mixer to mix and cool the dough slightly.
- Add the eggs one at a time, incorporating fully between each egg.
- When all eggs have been added and dough is silky smooth, stop the mixer.
- Add the apples and cheese and mix by hand to combine well.
- Use a spoon or cookie scoop to make little mounds of the dough on the lined
  cookie sheets.
- Bake for about 15 minutes or until lightly browned and puffed.
- Cool slightly and serve or cool fully and freeze.

TJ has paired cheesy bites with the 2009 Borgo Reale Pinot Noir, a Kosher wine
from Puglia. This light and tasty red wine is the perfect match for the salty/sweet
bites, and allows your guests to move to heavier bodied wines as the evening's meal
progresses. It sells at The Urban Grape for $17.
