Greetings!
Happy National Day of Writing! CCS is one of only two local schools participating in this national event. See the announcement below about the National Day of Writing and the CCS online writing gallery. As part of a focus on writing, Dr. Shirley has also written a recent blog post on writing. Congratulations to the Volleyball team for qualifying for the SCISA State Tournament in Sumter this weekend! Go Sundevils! Tomorrow is Red Ribbon Day! Students, don't forget to wear red to show your support. (See announcement below for details on student activities for Red Ribbon Day.)
Congratulations to senior Will Northcut
for being named the Kiawah-Seabrook Exchange Club's "Youth of the
Month"! Will will receive his award at the Exchange Club's October 21st
meeting. The Fall Play will
be held on Friday and Saturday nights (Oct. 23 & 24) at 7:30pm. For
a description of this year's play, along with a cast list and ticket
prices, please see the announcement below. Thanks to the many Sundevil fans who came out on Friday night for Homecoming. Although the football team lost their game, a fun time was had by all. Congratulations to senior Jessica Wood, who was named the 2009 Homecoming Queen! (Pictured in center below with alumna Grayson Schirmer, 2008 Homecoming Queen, and father Tom Wood, Varsity Football Coach.) If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to contact the front office to insure we have their correct e-mail address. Announcements may also be viewed on the new flat-screen televisions posted by the school's front office. Visit our website for the latest news and updates at www.charlestoncollegiate.org.

NATIONAL DAY OF WRITING
|
|
CCS Online Writing Project
You are invited to participate in the National Day of Writing on October 20! In CCS's online gallery, The Charleston Collegiate Collection, we are collecting various types of writings and artwork (even audio and video) from all students, teachers, alumni, parents, and friends of CCS. On October 20 the National Gallery of Writing and our local gallery, will open to the world, and you can be a part of it! We invite you to pick a piece of writing that matters to you and contribute it to The Charleston Collegiate Collection Gallery. Each person may only make one submission per gallery.
For those having trouble getting started, NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) has created Tips for Writers. For the curious, some sample writings are available. Before posting, you may also want to refer to the Gallery Guidelines. Also, as of right now, children under 13 cannot contribute writings without parental consent. You can find the 'Parental Consent Form' here.
Writers keep the copyrights of all work submitted, so if NCTE wants to do something with the writing(s) you post, they will ask you first and get your permission. Established by NCTE, the National Gallery of Writing, local writing galleries like ours, and the National Day of Writing highlight the remarkable variety of writing in which we engage today, provide a collection for research on whether writing today has risen to new highs or sunk to new lows, and help NCTE help others to write better.
Happy Writing!!! Please contact Erica Woodward at ewoodward@charlestoncollegiate.org if you have any questions.
