NEW! CHARLESTON COLLEGIATE GARDEN
garden A Sprouting Reality!
Groups from all grades are working to create a school-wide garden! Many people are involved in this effort: Project Learning Tree, headed by Mrs. Haynie; students in preschool through 8th grade; senior Zach Serrins; Mr. Hemingway, Middle School science teacher; and the Upper School Garden Club, led by Mrs. Sharpe. Seeds have been planted in various classrooms and will be ready soon to transplant into the garden.

However, the first step is for someone with a rototiller to till the area. Please contact Mrs. Haynie at jhaynie@charlestoncollegiate.org if you have a rototiller, or access to one or are interested in helping with the garden.

Lettuce all do what we can to make the garden happen!

NATIONAL DAY OF WRITING
writing CCS Online Writing Project
You are invited to participate in the National Day of Writing on October 20! In CCS's online gallery, The Charleston Collegiate Collection, we are collecting various types of writings and artwork (even audio and video) from all students, teachers, alumni, parents, and friends of CCS. On October 20 the National Gallery of Writing and our local gallery, will open to the world, and you can be a part of it! We invite you to pick a piece of writing that matters to you and contribute it to The Charleston Collegiate Collection Gallery. Each person may only make one submission per day.

For those having trouble getting started, NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) has created Tips for Writers. For the curious, some sample writings are available. Before posting, you may also want to refer to the Gallery Guidelines. Also, as of right now, children under 13 cannot contribute writings without parental consent. You can find the 'Parental Consent Form' here.

Writers keep the copyrights of all work submitted, so if NCTE wants to do something with the writing(s) you post, they will ask you first and get your permission. Established by NCTE, the National Gallery of Writing, local writing galleries like ours, and the National Day of Writing highlight the remarkable variety of writing in which we engage today, provide a collection for research on whether writing today has risen to new highs or sunk to new lows, and help NCTE help others to write better.

Happy Writing!!! Please contact Erica Woodward at ewoodward@charlestoncollegiate.org if you have any questions.
