Greetings!
Congratulations to Dr. Shirley for being selected one of "Charleston's 15 Most Intriguing People" for Charleston Magazine! Look for the article in the November issue. New CCS bumper stickers are available at the front desk. Be sure to come get one for your car! Charleston Collegiate now has a sailing team! Coach Teddy Turner took some pictures at a recent practice:
CCS senior and journalism student Kate Miller writes a monthly column for the Post & Courier. Her September article appeared in Thursday's "Your Lowcountry" section, but you can also read it online by clicking here. Lower School students (and future rock stars) Sam, Jack, and Roger
Ploch -- a.k.a. "The 3 Dudes" Band -- performed this weekend at an event called "Help Kids with a
Cause". It was also a fundraiser for CCS: they sold
their new CD, All in a Day! (Band logo and t-shirt design by CCS senior Christian Elias.) If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to turn their pink sheets into the front office. Announcements may also be viewed on the new flat-screen televisions posted by the school's front office. Visit our website for the latest news and updates at www.charlestoncollegiate.org.

"Pink" Sheets, "Green" Sheets, & Immunization Forms
Emergency Contact Forms ("pink" sheets), Medication Information Forms ("green" sheets), and immunization records (for new students) must be turned into the front office ASAP. Please note that students who do not have pink sheets on file are not allowed to go on any field trips. Click here to download the pink sheet form, which can then be printed, filled out, and returned to the front office.
Questions? Please contact the front office at 559-5506.

FLU INFORMATION & SCHOOL POLICY ON ILLNESSES
|
|
Important Information About the "Swine Flu" (H1N1) We have posted some important information regarding H1N1 "Swine Flu" and
South Carolina schools from DHEC (SC's Dept. of Health and
Environmental Control) to the Latest News page on our website. Additional information has been mailed to you from CCS and DHEC regarding this
health situation that is already affecting our community.
An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a
student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being
fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.

MS/US DRESS CODE REMINDER
|
|
For Cooler Weather... As the weather gets colder, students need to be sure to remain in dress code! All outerwear that is not on the uniform list must be approved by Ms. Boyd, Ms. Batalis, or Coach Jay only. Students may not wear any outerwear with a hood. They may only wear a CCS team jacket during that team's season and it must be a current uniform item. Undershirts must be navy or white only and must be tucked in.
If you have any questions about the dress code, please consult the 2009-10 student handbook or contact your division head.

NATIONAL DAY OF WRITING
|
|
CCS Online Writing Project
You are invited to participate in the National Day of Writing on October 20! In CCS's online gallery, The Charleston Collegiate Collection, we are collecting various types of writings and artwork (even audio and video) from all students, teachers, alumni, parents, and friends of CCS. On October 20 the National Gallery of Writing and our local gallery, will open to the world, and you can be a part of it! We invite you to pick a piece of writing that matters to you and contribute it to The Charleston Collegiate Collection Gallery. Each person may only make one submission per day.
For those having trouble getting started, NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English) has created Tips for Writers. For the curious, some sample writings are available. Before posting, you may also want to refer to the Gallery Guidelines. Also, as of right now, children under 13 cannot contribute writings without parental consent. You can find the 'Parental Consent Form' here.
Writers keep the copyrights of all work submitted, so if NCTE wants to do something with the writing(s) you post, they will ask you first and get your permission. Established by NCTE, the National Gallery of Writing, local writing galleries like ours, and the National Day of Writing highlight the remarkable variety of writing in which we engage today, provide a collection for research on whether writing today has risen to new highs or sunk to new lows, and help NCTE help others to write better.
Happy Writing!!! Please contact Erica Woodward at ewoodward@charlestoncollegiate.org if you have any questions.
