FLU INFORMATION & SCHOOL POLICY ON ILLNESSES
|
|
Important Information About the "Swine Flu" (H1N1) We have posted some important information regarding H1N1 "Swine Flu" and
South Carolina schools from DHEC (SC's Dept. of Health and
Environmental Control) to the Latest News page on our website. Additional information has been mailed to you from CCS and DHEC regarding this
health situation that is already affecting our community.
An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a
student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being
fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.

INNISBROOK FUNDRAISER

|
Innisbrook Deadline Extended!
The deadline for Innisbrook sales has been extended to Sept. 18 (Friday)!
Please help us reach our goal of $10,000, a portion of which will benefit the Lower School Playground. You can order online at www.innisbrook.com; the school's number is 111148.
All students that sell 10 items or more will be eligible to attend an ice cream party, to be held after the Innisbrook fundraiser ends. (Repeating his successful premiere last year, Mr. Burr will once again be our costume-clad banana, to be covered in whip cream by all students in attendance at the ice cream party.) Additionally, any child that sells 1 item or more will be entered into a drawing for an at-home Dip-n-Dots kit!
For more information, please contact Charlotte Smith.

Sunday, September 20th
CCS will be participating in Charleston's Peace One Day on Sunday, September 20 at Brittlebank Park.

CCS will be prominent in the Kids Global Village, helping visiting children construct their own doves for peace.
On Monday, Sept. 21st, the Lower School will once again be putting up the Pinwheels for Peace that they have created, which will be visible as you drive into school from Plow Ground Rd.
For more information about Sunday's event at Brittlebank Park, visit www.cp1d.org.

MAGAZINE DONATIONS
|
|
Palmetto PALS (Periodicals to Aid Literacy Skills) September is International Literacy Month and on Saturday, September 19th, the Charleston Literacy Roundtable will be sponsoring an event in Marion Square to help raise awareness of things we can do to help stamp out illiteracy in the Palmetto State.
Your magazine donations to Palmetto PALS (Periodicals to Aid Literacy Skills) are greatly needed, as the Literacy Roundtable plans to offer those attending the event the opportunity to take home gently-used books and magazines free of charge. Please bring your book and magazine donations to school by Friday, September 18th: student government will box and transport them for the event.
Following the September event, please continue to donate as the Trident Literacy Association has an ongoing need for periodicals to be used in their many programs and classes. For further information call Ellen de Jong at 442-3998.

After-School Class & 2nd Grade Soap Sculptures
Mrs. Shears' after-school clay class is starting tomorrow, Sept. 15th at 3:00pm. There are still spots available and she would love having your child come and create wonderful things with her. The class is 4 weeks long and costs $135.00, which includes all supplies. Please contact Valerie Shears for more information.
Also, Mrs. Shears and the second graders are doing their part with art to keep the Swine Flu away: they are making sculptures out of soap! They'll have some on display Tuesday afternoon for you to see. When they are finished sculpting, students even use the shavings to wash their hands! How's that for creatively fighting germs?
