SEPT. 8, 2009
Greetings!

If you happen to pick up the latest issue of the Island Connection, you'll see an article on CCS 6th grader (and poet) Kyra Westerberg. A copy of the article has been posted to the bulletin board outside of the front office. Congratulations, Kyra!

We are still trying to gather all contact information for the 2009-10 school year. If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to turn their pink sheets into the front office. Announcements may also be viewed on the new flat-screen televisions posted by the school's front office. Visit our website for the latest news and updates at www.charlestoncollegiate.org.

A very special congratulations to CCS teachers Ms. Mandy Hoskins and Mr. Brian McDermott on their recent engagement!
FROM THE FRONT OFFICE

important2Emergency Contact Forms ("pink" sheets), Medication Information Forms ("green" sheets), and immunization records (for new students) must be turned into the front office ASAP.

FLU INFORMATION & SCHOOL POLICY ON ILLNESSES
Important Information About the "Swine Flu" (H1N1)
We have posted some important information regarding H1N1 "Swine Flu" and South Carolina schools from DHEC (SC's Dept. of Health and Environmental Control) to the Latest News page on our website. Additional information has been mailed to you from CCS and DHEC regarding this health situation that could potentially affect our community.

An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.
FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE
Tuition Insurance
If you did not pay your child's tuition in full prior to August 15th, you are required to participate in the Tuition Insurance Plan. You were invoiced last month for your tuition insurance premium, which is due no later than September 15th. There will be a $25 late fee per month until the premium is paid. If you are unsure of your amount due, please contact the Business Office.

FROM THE LUNCH ROOM
ice cream I Scream, You Scream . . .
CCS has started selling ice cream during lunch times. We will typically have ice cream sandwiches, fudge bars, and orange creamsicles. They sell for 50 cents each, and they will be sold to all grades with the exception of preschool. The money goes towards paying for Café supplies such as forks, spoons, napkins, and paper plates. Any leftover money will go to Middle and Upper school functions such as dances.
CHARLESTON COLLEGIATE BLOG

There is a new blog post by Dr. Shirley (entitled "A Little More Conversation..."), which you can find on the CCS Blog here. We welcome and encourage your feedback by reading new and previous posts -- all written by Charleston Collegiate teachers and administrators -- and leaving comments on the blog.
INNISBROOK FUNDRAISER
One Week Left to Sell Innisbrook!
banana A portion of the proceeds will go towards new playground equipment for the Lower School. Please support Charleston Collegiate through this fundraiser: this year's fundraising goal is $10,000. You can order online at www.innisbrook.com; the school's number is 111148.

All students that sell 10 items or more will be eligible to attend an ice cream party, to be held after the Innisbrook fundraiser ends on September 15th. (Repeating his successful premiere last year, Mr. Burr will once again be our costume-clad banana, to be covered in whip cream by all students in attendance at the ice cream party.) Additionally, any child that sells 1 item or more will be entered into a drawing for an at-home Dip-n-Dots kit!

MAGAZINE DONATIONS
Palmetto PALS (Periodicals to Aid Literacy Skills)
September is International Literacy Month and on Saturday, September 19th, the Charleston Literacy Roundtable will be sponsoring an event in Marion Square to help raise awareness of things we can do to help stamp out illiteracy in the Palmetto State.

Your magazine donations to Palmetto PALS (Periodicals to Aid Literacy Skills) are greatly needed, as the Literacy Roundtable plans to offer those attending the event the opportunity to take home gently-used books and magazines free of charge. Please bring your book and magazine donations to school by Friday, September 18th: student government will box and transport them for the event.

Following the September event, please continue to donate as the Trident Literacy Association has an ongoing need for periodicals to be used in their many programs and classes. For further information call Ellen de Jong at 442-3998.
