AUGUST 31, 2009
Greetings!

Thanks to the CCS Booster Club and everyone else who came out to support the Sun Devils at Friday night's Sun Devil Kick-Off! Although we lost the game 8-0, the Varsity Football team played hard and enjoyed the support of lots of fans (and volunteers) despite the early evening rain. Speaking of which, did you happen to catch this double rainbow over the school that night? (Photo by Laura Quarles.)

We are still trying to gather all contact information for the 2009-10 school year. If you know of any fellow parents who are not receiving weekly announcements, please forward this to them and encourage them to turn their pink sheets into the front office. Announcements may also be viewed on the new flat-screen televisions posted by the school's front office. Visit our website for the latest news and updates at www.charlestoncollegiate.org.
FROM THE FRONT OFFICE
"Pink" Sheets, "Green" Sheets, & Immunization Forms
important2Emergency Contact Forms ("pink" sheets), Medication Information Forms ("green" sheets), and immunization records (for new students) must be turned into the front office by this Friday, September 4th! (We need to have everyone's pink sheets in order to create the school directory for 2009-10.)

Questions? Please contact the front office at 559-5506.
FLU INFORMATION & SCHOOL POLICY ON ILLNESSES
Important Information About the "Swine Flu" (H1N1)
We have posted some important information regarding H1N1 "Swine Flu" and South Carolina schools from DHEC (SC's Dept. of Health and Environmental Control) to the Latest News page on our website. In the next few days, you will be receiving additional information in the mail from CCS and DHEC regarding this health situation that could potentially affect our community.

An important reminder about school policy on student illnesses: if a student is out sick, he/she is only allowed back to school after being fever/symptom-free for 24 hours without the help of medication.
FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE
Tuition Insurance
If you did not pay your child's tuition in full prior to August 15th, you are required to participate in the Tuition Insurance Plan. You were invoiced last month for your tuition insurance premium, which is due no later than September 15th. There will be a $25 late fee per month until the premium is paid. If you are unsure of your amount due, please contact the Business Office.

FROM THE LUNCH ROOM
ice cream I Scream, You Scream . . .
CCS will be selling ice cream starting next Tuesday during lunch times. We will typically have ice cream sandwiches, fudge bars, and orange creamsicles. They will sell for 50 cents each, and they will be sold to all grades with the exception of preschool. The money goes towards paying for Café supplies such as forks, spoons, napkins, and paper plates. Any leftover money will go to Middle and Upper school functions such as dances.
AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS
After-School Activities Start This Week!
Please email Tiffany Frank for days and times of activities or any other questions at tfrank@charlestoncollegiate.org or visit the After-School Activities page on our website for more information. clock After-School Supervision
We would just like to remind parents that there is no supervision for MS and US students who are not involved in a sport or other extra-curricular activity after 4:30pm. (Before 4:30pm, MS/US students not involved in a sport or extra-curricular activity are required to report to Ms. Sowers in MS-4 until they are picked up from school.) Please make sure to arrange pick-up for your son or daughter by 4:30 even on home game days. Unfortunately, unless they are on a team, they cannot stay on campus to watch practices or warm-ups.

Thank you very much for your cooperation in our efforts to keep your children safe!

MAGAZINE DONATIONS
Palmetto PALS (Periodicals to Aid Literacy Skills)
September is International Literacy Month and on Saturday, September 19th, the Charleston Literacy Roundtable will be sponsoring an event in Marion Square to help raise awareness of things we can do to help stamp out illiteracy in the Palmetto State.

Your magazine donations to Palmetto PALS (Periodicals to Aid Literacy Skills) are greatly needed, as the Literacy Roundtable plans to offer those attending the event the opportunity to take home gently-used books and magazines free of charge. Please bring your book and magazine donations to school by Friday, September 18th: student government will box and transport them for the event.

Following the September event, please continue to donate as the Trident Literacy Association has an ongoing need for periodicals to be used in their many programs and classes. For further information call Ellen de Jong at 442-3998.
