In early November we are hosting a Small Business Summit in which you can get some information and tools for running a business in the City more effectively and efficiently. See below for the agenda and please RSVP for this event today!
Believe it or not the holidays are just around the corner. We are publishing a Holiday Gift Guide made up entirely of Chamber Member gift ideas and associated discounts. See below for the form and more information.

Paid Sick Leave Bill Update
| Speaker Quinn, Mayor Bloomberg Say No to Paid Sick Leave Bill
A big victory for small business
As you might have
heard, both New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and Mayor Bloomberg have come out in opposition of the much debated Paid Sick Leave Bill. In her statement Speaker Quinn said,
"Providing sick leave to working New Yorkers is a noble goal, and supporters of
this bill have the best of intentions.
But now is simply not the right time for a measure that threatens the
survival of small business owners." NY Post: Quinn Opposes Bill
Mayor
Bloomberg said the following about the bill proposed by the Council. "If you want to lose those
jobs and lots of others, you start letting the government run small
business. That's not what this country is all about." NY Post: Mayor Opposes Bill
The Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of
Commerce and other business groups have worked tirelessly over the past year to help our
elected officials understand the adverse consequences of the provisions of this
bill, and we stand in full support of Speaker Quinn's decision. Her position
recognizes the negative impact this would have on the employers who create and
keep the jobs necessary to get us back on the road to economic recovery. We would also like to thank Speaker Quinn for
weighing all sides and not rushing into a decision on a bill that has such a
significant impact on the City's
economy.
We should note, the fight is not over. At anytime the position could be overturned the bill reintroduced. The Chamber promises to continue to fight against the bill and protect the position of small business on this issue.

George Forbes of the Lucille Lortel Theatre, is running this year's NYC
Marathon to raise money for the McBurney YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign.
Each year the YMCA of Greater NY provides over $46 million in financial
assistance to tens of thousands of children and families. Their policy
is to never turn away a family in need. There are thousands of families
in the Chamber's area who struggle every day to keep their kids safe and
healthy. These families rely on the McBurney Y's Infant Care, Nursery School,
Universal Pre-K and after-school care to watch their kids while they are
at work.
Demand for scholarships is at an all-time high as more people struggle
to make ends meet. In fact, in September more scholarship money had
been granted for 2010 than for all of 2009 and the scholarship fund is
running out of money.
Donations can be made to support George in his race to supports the McBurney YMCA Strong Kids Campaign by clicking here.
