ANNUAL CONFERENCE REGISTRATION NOW OPEN

Every year we listen and respond to your conference feedback and so the upcoming 8th Annual Florida Writers Conference promises to be the best ever. We've even made sure you'll be able to learn more about the conference in advance of registration!

The conference blog bursts with lively insider details and frequent updates on learning opportunities; faculty, agents and publishers; and other conference events as well as answers to frequently asked questions.

Get your submission in right away if you want to be considered for our first anthology: FWA Collections: From Our Family to YoursSuzette Standring, former President of the National Society of Newspaper Columnists, will select her top ten stories. 2009 RPLA SUBMISSION DEADLINE APPROACHING
The Royal Palm Literary Awards committee is accepting submissions for the annual competition through July 13.  Don't delay. Submissions received during May and June get a break on the entry fee, so don't wait until the last minute to enter. Remember: all entries to the  should be double spaced, not only for the synopsis, but also for the entry itself. Competition details...

We're looking for a Statewide Volunteer Coordinator. This person would be responsible for working with the Executive Committee to determine where help is needed, matching  members with volunteer opportunities, and maintaining volunteer records and keeping leadership informed.

FWA WRITERS GROUP NEWS

Henry Herman has been appointed as new Ft. Myers FWA Writers Group Leader. Congratulations, Henry, and thanks for taking the helm!

May 21:
At their next meeting the Lakeland/Polk County group  will begin preparing for their Annual Young Writers Contest and Award Ceremony

May 23: The New Port Richey/Pasco County group has posted a writing prompt for their next reading and critiquing meeting.

June 6:
The Tampa/Wesley Chapel group will host a mini query letter workshop conducted by Molli Nickell, former Time-Life editor.

June 11: Author K. L. Nappier will address the St. Petersburg group about "Exploring E-Publishing and the Internet." 

June 20:
At the St. Augustine/Ancient City Writers meeting, Berkley Publishing Group author Nancy Haddock will share a method she calls the "Chia Plot or Growing a Plot from a Simple Sentence." This is an interactive program designed to help writers dive from initial concept into full story development.

June 25:
Regional Director Vic DeGenti will be presenting a workshop on "Making A Scene" for members of the  Lady Lake group.

There Chris Hamilton shows you cabout how to use the Internet and online tools to support your writing career and addresses other topics of interest to writers in the digital age. Leave a comment for Chris, so he knows you've been there.

FLORIDA WRITERS FOUNDATION

karen_liebThe Florida Writers Foundation, sister organization to FWA, is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation established to promote literacy and to enhance writing skills in children, youth, and adults.

Last year's conference silent auction was a major fundraiser for FWF and featured a whole range of enticing items -- from vacation accommodations to writers' tools and services. to some lovely scarves that were among the most prized auction booty.
