Greetings!
As I mentioned earlier this month in my Healthy Habits email, my personal theme this quarter is "Back to Basics."
With my fibromyalgia acting up these last four months, I'm getting back to the basics that got me well the first time. You can read about that in the article Breathe Deep, Start Fresh, Back to Basics.
Enjoy October's Hope & Healing newsletter! Don't forget to read all the way to the bottom; there's a special discount in here, just for you!
PS... Think of one woman who told you recently, "I wish there was an easy way to start taking care of myself!" and to her. Receive this from someone else? Sign up for your own copy here. |

Breathe Deep, Start Fresh, Back to Basics
Posted October 22, 2011
In the last four months, my fibromyalgia has suffered a setback. To get well, I'm getting "back to basics" - back to what got me well the first time - by taking an honest look at where I want to go and where I am now. I'm resetting my internal GPS.

Celebration of Hope
 | | Promise of Hope, by Wayne Bricco |
"Until you get your own hope, find some people who you can borrow theirs from.
~ Mary, Why Cherry Blossoms...?
When she started experiencing symptoms she didn't understand, Jennifer wasn't sure who to talk to. She also started feeling, as she mentions below, "embarrassed and hopeless" as she had trouble keeping up with the schedule that was so easy for her before.
Jennifer wrote this for me after we had lunch one day and I assured her that she wasn't going crazy!
"...Trying to talk with people about [chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia] can make one feel embarrassed and hopeless.
"As my symptoms progressed, I called on Tami's skill and recommendations. She was able to recommend specific health care practitioners based on behavioral styles, expertise and my immediate need.
"Because she can relate from personal experience, Tami not only helps her clients along in the process of feeling better by eating better and losing weight, she also helps them feel completely at ease and gives them peace of mind when it comes to the scary and hopeless feelings that accompany chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia."
Do you need some peace of mind or a little bit of hope?
Take a health assessment here. Then, schedule a time for us to chat. You can have peace of mind; I can give you that bit of hope.

Guilt, Blame, & "Shoulds": The 3 Enemies of Self Care & Organization
Saturday, November 19th, 1-4 PM Portland Area Fibromyalgia - ME/CFS Group
Jennifer Hofmann is a big proponent of self-care and self-kindness. In our November meeting she will teach us how to be nice to ourselves through kind self-talk and organization that can make our lives run more smoothly.
Jennifer says: "If you've ever thought you should be more organized and feel guilty because you aren't, take heart. This session will explain how guilt, blame, and "shoulds" actually prevent you from being organized and caring for yourself. Instead of feeling discouraged, discover how to make peace with your piles and create order without hurting your heart. You'll leave the meeting feeling better about yourself (honest!) and more clear - even excited - about how to proceed with caring for yourself through organization."
While Jennifer's business is called Inspired Home Office, everything I know about self care, I learned from Jennifer.
Another interesting fact is that ADD has been equated to some extent with aspects of brain fog. I believe that much of Jennifer's experience with learning to work with ADD could transfer to our working with brain fog.
If you aren't local, you can still join the Portland Area Fibromyalgia ME/CFS Group to watch a recording of the meeting. There is no cost to join.

Tip of the Month
|
 | | Chocolate Coconut Almond Flavor Concentrate |
| |
Are you looking for a no-calorie way to flavor water or protein shakes?
Research has shown that sugar isn't good for fibromyalgia. It's also shown that fake sugars, like sucralose and aspartame, are even worse.
When looking for ways to spruce up my water and protein shakes, the Capella Flavor Drops are my secret weapon.
I love the Orange Mango for water. Adding the Chocolate Coconut Almond to a Chocolate protein shake makes it like an Almond Joy. Another favorite is adding the Chocolate Raspberry to Hot Chocolate. YUM!
