Your stories of hope in your own words...

We love hearing your Grandview stories.

Here a few in your own words.

One of "Our Kids"

When my kids were younger, I would attend a local recreation centre. My daughter used to get so overwhelmed there, as she does not have motor skills. She would become frustrated by not being able to do what the other children were doing. When she came here, she had appointments and although she could still barely do some things, she was so happy. It was enough for me that she wasn't upset but having a great time. She was really proud of what she could do.

My son has severe physical developmental issues and had to have his hands casted to help improve them. For this, here at Grandview, he was in a group with a lot of little ones and he was, in fact, the oldest one in the group. There was one time when we were running late and when we arrived the mother said that her 3 year old son had wanted to wait and see my son and would not leave until he arrived. So the two went off to the treatment, the little one happy to be with my son. I know my son felt so proud, to be someone else's hero.

The therapist taught my son to write his name. She was so encouraging and kept saying our son is so smart. It was so nice for us to hear that as his parents.

Our daughter had speech issues and it was her first year in the school program,. We had been scared about her attending public school. We need not have worried. She came home after the first week announcing she had joined the choir. I was so overcome by emotion that I went to my bedroom and cried. We went to her first concert last year.

My grandson never used to leave my side. I used to have to be with him all the time wherever we went and he would cling to me. Well, at Grandview, in a very short time, he was just walking away with the therapists and not even looking back.

We want to hear from you!

As part of the strategic planning process, we continue  our dialogue with parents about their Grandview experiences.  In the first focus group, parents were invited to share their thoughts on what is required for children and families in the future.

The feedback highlighted an emphasis on how comfortable their children feel at Grandview because ofthe strong caring relationships developed with the children and their families. The parents also felt that Grandview did a great job in empowering their children to communicate and advocate for themselves.

Coordination amongst service providers was highlighted as an issue for parents.  It was agreed that there was a lack of communication between providers which resulted in not always being able to see the "big picture".

The feedback is invaluable and will guide Grandview's direction in the future.  The entire plan will be available for feedback during May.

Please watch our website and Facebook account for details.

Spring is in the air

While we should not complain, winter has almost passed with very little fanfare. We are now reminded that spring and new life is waiting to bloom and blossom.   At Grandview, we are excited about the possibility of growth.  For us, it means new friends and renewed help for "Our Kids".

Daily we hear stories like that of Eli whose mom Wendy says "Grandview has changed our lives for the better" and Lee Anne, Grace's mom who says "Grandview has brought joy into our lives."

We can share eagerly in the joy of these families but what of the hundreds more who are still waiting to access critical therapy services from Grandview!

You can help make a difference in those lives too.

We thank you for all that you are doing and are reminded that ....with you on their side a whole world opens up.
