Have you ever overheard people talking about a business or service that sounded so good you just had to try it out for yourself? Perhaps a friend or colleague has told you about someone you should meet because you would have a lot to talk about -- or their business may be helpful to you?  Do you ever make recommendations for favorite hairstylists, plumbers, mechanics, or a computer repair person?

I don't know about you, but I would much rather find what I need by referral, rather than a blind stab in a phone directory. People do business with those they know and have confidence in, and a recommendation from someone I know about someone or something they know has value to me.

Is there a chance I may not be happy with the recommendation? Yes, but there is a better likelihood that I will be pleased, especially if I make it known that I am calling because the business was recommended by my colleague. (This is an instance where name dropping is actually a good thing.)

Let's face it, all too often we encounter businesses that simply go through the motions when it comes to meeting our needs. So, when you find one that does a great job, let other people in on it! Not only are you offering to share a potential great experience, but you are also supporting that business. Making a referral says "Great job!"

Remember...

Word-of-mouth marketing is beneficial to just about all businesses. If you are pleased with a company or service you have used, speak up; tell your friends, colleagues, and co-workers, perhaps even post it on Facebook for all to see. "If you ever need a ______, I just found a great one!"

You never know who might be in need of that very thing, either right then, or down the road a bit ...
