I don't wish to over-share but ... I am blind as a bat. If we were to meet when I was not wearing my glasses or contact lenses, not only would I not recognize you, but I would not even see you. This problem goes back a number of years; I remember putting on my first pair of glasses at the age of 11, looking up, and exclaiming "There are holes in the ceiling tile!"
For the past few months, I have been taking a break from my contact lenses and wearing glasses -- snazzy new navy ones with purple arms. While it has been fun, I'm ready to go back to the contacts. However, it isn't that simple.
After putting the new lenses into my eyes, I realized I couldn't see very well and was immediately developing a headache -- not a good sign. In talking with my doctor, who did some additional testing, it seems we have come to a road block; he can't do anything more for my vision at this time. Instead, he is referring me on to a specialist for further evaluation.
What stood out the most -- and truly impressed me -- was what he said: "I'm not too proud to make the referral". I not only like my eye doctor, but I trust him completely. His comment, along with his actions, show me I am right to do so. All of us have our limitations but not everyone recognizes them.

Remember...
It strengthens credibility and shows confidence in one's abilities to say "I don't know ... I need help ... Someone else may be better for the task."
We are all good at some things but we cannot excel at everything.
