I met a woman offering samples of her chocolate at an open air market and as we chatted, I found her to be warm, friendly and delightful. She gave me a taste of both her milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and a beverage, and even though I don't drink coffee, I was hooked ... this was amazing chocolate! I couldn't wait to visit her little shop.
A few days later, my friends and I did just that. The smell of chocolate greeted us as we approached the outer door and literally pulled us in. Cool, sparkling clean, delicious ... where to look first?!
There was a different woman behind the counter, and while she was very professional in her demeanor, there was no smile, no welcome, no air of friendliness about her ... no pleasure in the product she had to share.
While the saleswoman's manner did not take away our enthusiasm in selecting our chocolate (there really wasn't much that could), it did make for a cold transaction, which was sad, as it could have been so much more.

Remember...
People make all the difference. I loved the chocolate I sampled but it was the friendly conversation with the woman at the market that was memorable.
Providing, or offering, positive customer service doesn't have to cost a penny but it can make all the difference in the world, no matter how good your product may be.
