Ah, Summer is officially here, as of today! Depending on where you live, you may be basking in non-stop sun, or if you live in my area, wondering if the clouds really will clear and allow the sun to come out.
Sometimes it can make getting dressed in the morning a real nuisance. What are you going to be doing? Will there be air conditioning set on cold? Are you going to be in an out of your vehicle? How many layers do you need? Who are you going to be seeing?
What you wear matters. It plays a big role in the impression you make and sends a strong message to others; are you aware of what you may be saying?
1. Is your appearance on the sloppy side? Do you pay as much attention to the details of your work?
2. Do you dress in a style too casual for your profession? Does your casualness spread over to your work habits? Do you take your responsibilities less seriously? Are time-lines less important?
3. Dressing in a professional manner, appropriate for your line of work, says that you are organized and serious about what you do.
Regardless of the weather, it is important that you present a professional image. It shows:
- You are prepared and promotable
- You respect the company you work for
- Respect for your clients, colleagues and supervisors
Keep in mind it's not always the specific items of clothing that give someone a positive impression so much as how you wear and tend to them.
1. Clothing needs to fit well and you need to feel comfortable in it.
2. Keep it clean and neat; iron if necessary!
3. Don't be tempted to wear something with a grease spot, thinking no one will notice.
4. Wearing clean clothes is as essential as combing your hair.
Good personal hygiene is just as important as selecting the right outfit: clean hands, clean hair, fresh breath, deodorant, and regular showers/baths matter.
Your style of dress is one way to express yourself ... who you are, what type of personality you have. In summer, we all seem to relax as we enjoy the sunshine and outside activities. But there is still work to be done; are you there to express yourself or impress someone else?
