Quote of the Week

"If Spring came but once in a century, instead of once a year, or burst forth with the sound of an earthquake, and not in silence, what wonder and expectation there would be in all hearts to behold the miraculous change!

DID YOU KNOW?

Bamboo is not only characterized by its rapid and often, rampant growth (some varieties can grow up to 40 inches a day), but it was also important in the development of the first light bulb. While Thomas Edison was camping in Wyoming in 1878, one of his companions accidentally knocked over a bamboo fishing pole into the campfire. Its resistance to burning gave him the idea to use bamboo as the filament material for his light bulbs. As a result, the bamboo-derived filament enabled Edison's light bulbs to last for over 1200 hours.

This year's show will be most memorable to John, Bruce and I not only because of all the cutting-edge garden designs, eye-candy flower arrangements, new and exotic plants, classic bonsai exhibits, seminars, a film premier, garden to table cooking demonstrations, a wine garden and 200 vendors selling everything for outdoor living, but because it was GardenLife's first experience at having our own booth.
