It was a cold, bleak, rainy day when Bruce and I decided
to visit Fred Clarke, the extraordinarily talented orchid
expert who hybridized the first truly black orchid. Fred
owns the mail order company, Sunset Valley Orchids
located in Vista, California, and our dark moods quickly
lifted when we were surrounded by sunny visions of
incredible beauty.
