New Feature at www.rodwalters.com - Champions of
Athletic Training

Coming shortly, we will be featuring professionals identified as a "Champion of Athletic Training".  This feature will highlight  Athletic Trainers from across the country who I have come in contact with and exemplify that "little extra" and demonstrate excellence in Athletic Training.

As we identify these Champions, it is our goal you will have the ability to reach out to these professionals relative to their experiences from the myriad of practice settings and be a resource for you.

Let us know of someone you deem worthy of being identified as a "Champion of Athletic Training."

by Darryl Conway, Director of Sports Medicine, University of Maryland

The following are some highlights of a presentation by Darryl Conway for EMTs and Paramedics - presented in Baltimore, MD - Mar 2010.
Comprehensive overview of the pre-hospital management of the cervical spine injured athlete, primarily focusing on the equipment intensive athlete (e.g. football, lacrosse, ice hockey, baseball/softball catcher, extreme sports, etc.).  includes and in-depth look into facemask removal techniques utilizing a variety of commonly accepted tools and examining the multiple variables with the most popular helmets and facemasks on the market today.  Also provides an in-depth examination of the various techniques of helmet and shoulder pad removal, management and extrication of the athlete on unstable surfaces (e.g. pole vault / high jump mats, gymnastics mats, gymnastics / extreme sports foam pits, etc.), spine board immobilization techniques, transportation consideration, and an overview of basic emergency planning and risk management considerations.

As part of our Emergency Action Plan - a thorough review of protective equipment should be undertaken!

NATA Foundation Hosts Convention Shuffle!

Attention joggers AND walkers! If you're headed to Philly for the NATA Annual Meeting, you don't want to miss the NATA Foundation Convention Shuffle!  So mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 23 at 7 am and plan to join us!

The course will begin at Kelly Drive and will follow along the river. This is the perfect opportunity to get in some cardio and enjoy the beautiful scenery in Philly.

Think about it - great friends, beautiful weather and a wonderful course - what more can you ask for? Walking or jogging in the Shuffle will be much more fun than spending 30 minutes on the treadmill in the gym. Plus, you will be supporting YOUR NATA Foundation...the only charitable organization dedicated to advancing the profession of athletic training.

The cost is only $30 and covers race fees, transportation from the convention center to the site, a Convention Shuffle t-shirt, and a goody bag with party favors from CleenFreek (the event sponsor) as well as treats from Gatorade and Cramer Products (event supporters).

If you have already registered for the Annual Meeting but did not include the Convention Shuffle - no worries! All you have to do is log on to your account and add the Shuffle, pay the fee, and you are set!

Thank you for supporting YOUR NATA Foundation!
