Why Fluorocarbons?

Why are Fluorocarbons compounds billed as the miracle glide and kick additive or finishing wax?

Fluorocarbons have low coefficient of friction to make them slippery and a extreme negative charge which repels water, dirt and pine sap to keep the skis at their fastest as the km add up.

The negative charge increases the surface tension of water allowing it to bead up and act as speedy ball bearings rather than flatten out and act as slow suction cups. The greater the air's relative humidity or snow's water or dirt content the more Flourocarbons will increase ski speed immediately and over km's.

Drive for 25

What: 4000 American cross country ski enthusiasts backing their nation's developing skiers on a single day.

When: November 15th, 2011

How: There are two ways to be involved.  The most impactful involvement is to become a Drive for 25 Ambassador and get at least ten of your friends to agree to donate on November 15th.  Send the email addresses of your friends to us and we will remind them.

Or, the simplest way is to log onto the

Cross-Country Page

or the

Nordic Combined Page

and donate $25 on November 15th.

Why: U.S. cross country skiing is in financial trouble.  While we have improved from a nation that seldom put a single skier in the top 15 on the World Cup to a nation with World Cup and World Championship podiums we are currently operating at a budget of less than a tenth of our toughest competitors.  And more importantly our budget shortfalls are making it impossible for our younger developing athletes to afford the racing opportunities they require to compete among the best.  This summer we have faced two rounds of budget cuts and another is looming.  This challenge offers the cross country community a chance to pull together and keep the momentum building.

Who: You!

NNF, the National Nordic Foundation is stepping up to fill these budget short falls.  The NNF depends on you.

THE 3RD ANNUAL SKIERG WORLD SPRINTS

October 31, 2011, Morrisville, VT - Each year in November, we offer SkiErg users the opportunity to "race" with others around the world during the SkiErg World Sprints. If you're an on-snow skier waiting for the snow to fall, this is a great way to pass the time. If you're not a skier but just like the challenge of setting a personal best on the SkiErg-here's your chance. No matter what your inspiration, we hope you'll join us for the 3rd Annual SkiErg World Sprints Indoor Skiing Competition.

This 1000 meter race will be held November 11-13, 2011 at locations throughout the world. The comparable, repeatable results of the SkiErg Performance Monitor allow anyone with access to a Concept2 SkiErg to race against others on a fair, measurable "course."

The event is open to anyone who'd like to join the fun. If you'd like to host a race, please email joshc@concept2.com for more information.

Can't travel to a Sprints location? If you have your own SkiErg, you can join in from your home! You can even invite friends and teammates over to join you. Pre-set the Performance Monitor for a 1000 meter piece and "race" any time between November 11-13, 2011. Submit your time to the Concept2 Online Logbook to be included in the official race results.

Concept2 will award prizes for overall men's and women's winners, and the top three finishers in each age group and gender. We hope you'll join the fun!

Ski Clinics & Kids at the Yellowstone Ski Festival

November 22 - 26, 2011

There is snow on the ground in West Yellowstone, and now is a great time to check out the ski clinic options over Thanksgiving week at the Yellowstone Ski Festival.  Great coaches, video technique review, and more.  Whether you are an avid recreationalist, racer, or new to the sport, the goal is to make you a better skier. The YSF clinics provide a solid understanding of technique, and give you tools to gain efficiency and strength throughout your ski season. The YSF Nordic ski clinics started at the Rendezvous Ski Trails in West Yellowstone in the mid-1980s, and over the years the clinics have assembled a strong coaching staff of cross-country ski professionals, which includes retired world-class skiers, coaches and professional instructors.

With one to five day Nordic ski clinics offered throughout the week, with both classic and skate specific options, there is an opportunity for all skiers to kick-start their season. Junior skiers age 12 and older may register for the adult clinics. Parents should review the daily schedules to see which clinic is a good fit for their skier and contact the clinic coaching staff for advice.

Kids Ski Clinics. This year the Yellowstone Ski Festival and Lone Mountain Ranch have partnered to offer two full days of ski-specific kids clinics.  Grades K-2nd and 3rd-6th will have morning and afternoon sessions on Friday, Nov. 25 and Saturday, Nov. 26.  Having fun on snow is what these clinics are all about.  Kids will learn the fundamentals of cross-country skiing balance and technique, and those with skiing experience will learn tips to ski more efficiently.  Parents can take this time to hit the trails while the little ones participate in half day or full day classes.  Classic and skate options available to 3rd-6th graders; K-2nd is classic only.  Equipment is available to rent.

The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center is offering daily 30 minute hands-on activities during the Yellowstone Ski Festival.  Conveniently scheduled just after lunch, the center provides a great opportunity to sneak in education during a ski vacation.  The best part - the Wild Winter Program is all fun and games! www.yellowstoneskifestival.com/kids-clinics/

Kids of ALL AGES.  Family-friendly evening presentations include the Backcountry Film Festival, a Birds of Prey exhibit featuring live raptors, a hands-on demonstration from the National Park Service, wax clinics, dessert auction, and a good, old-fashioned S'more party.

Cross-country skiing starts in West Yellowstone and first tracks for skiers 13 and younger are half price during the Yellowstone Ski Festival. Think Snow and make plans now to attend the 2011 Yellowstone Ski Festival.
