The word of the LORD came again to me saying, "Son of man, prophesy and say, `Thus says the Lord GOD, "Wail, `Alas for the day!'

"For the day is near,

Even the day of the LORD is near;

It will be a day of clouds,

A time of doom for the nations.

"A sword will come upon Egypt,

And anguish will be in Ethiopia;

When the slain fall in Egypt,

They take away her wealth,

And her foundations are torn down.

"Ethiopia, Put, Lud, all Arabia, Libya and the people of the land that is in league will fall with them by the sword."

- Ezekiel 30:1-5

"He will also enter the Beautiful Land, and many countries will fall; but these will be rescued out of his hand: Edom, Moab and the foremost of the sons of Ammon. "Then he will stretch out his hand against other countries, and the land of Egypt will not escape. "But he will gain control over the hidden treasures of gold and silver and over all the precious things of Egypt; and Libyans and Ethiopians will follow at his heels. - Daniel 11:41-43

The End is NOT Near
Cognitive Dissonance in the Media :: Keeping the Sheep in Confusion

Notes on how to read, view and/or interpret the information in this alert:

[I will apologize at the beginning for the length of this alert. I know your time is valuable. However, I believe this information will help to explain why The Western governments are doing what they are doing and why the media backs them up. More than anything, it comes down to money and gold over oil.]

Concerning events in The Middle East, the never ending chain of "breaking news" is more or less just a 24/7 rumor mill that causes just as much confusion and deception as it can actual real information. Additionally, the speed of today's technology allows no time for analysis and digestion, just regurgitation. I have always tried to stress the point that the only way to make sense of events in the world is to view them through the filter of Scripture, as Scripture filters out the error, lies and disinformation from the truth. The challenge of course is making sure that our interpretation of Scripture is correct to begin with, if that is off, then our filter of current events will be off.

There are some things regarding the interpretation side of this equation that has always concerned me. One, are those who claim they have everything about unfulfilled prophecy figured out. The second is a sort of "new phariseeism" (my terminology, in the sense that Scripture must be protected at all cost) that any events happening today have nothing to do with the fulfillment of prophecy because we are still in the "great time out" know as the church age. Therefore, the rule is to not link any current event with Scripture because the church has yet to be "raptured" away. The serious problem with this is that many in the church today have become overly comfortable and unconcerned with what is taking place thinking it will have no effect on them.

Please note that I am not attacking the belief in rapture or harpazo as I fully believe it is coming soon. I am just disturbed that it has become a source of deception in Western Christendom to such a point where many believers have put there hope and trust in an event before the Person of Christ. Secondly, the event of the rapture has been raised to the detriment of the event that precedes it, the resurrection of the saints.

Notes:

1.       The big story: Deception taking place from the highest levels of leadership down to the poorest of people and all in-between including most of the church. We must be careful because we have come to a time of instant communication (and therefore instant disinformation and deception) and the danger is to be caught in "the web" that is of the world, rather than just monitoring it. However, I do think something is noteworthy in the midst of this. For a long time it was only believing Christians that were talking about the last days and the return of Christ. Now that may have changed as more Christians have turned "seeker" and Emergent I hear more pagans concerned about 2012 and Muslims that are talking about the end times out in the "real world". That should make us take note. (See article # 1 & 14 etc.)

2.       Concurrently, we see a consolidation of power taking place in governments around the world. Examples include Russia, Turkey and Iran that prophetically are tied to the unfulfilled prophecies in Ezekiel 38 & 39. The White House has also consolidated power over the years during numerous administrations, both Republican and Democrat, using Executive Orders, compartmentalization and other such tactics. It certainly looks to be coming to fruition under Obama where one can see his administration wielding power while the US Intelligence and many members of the US Congress appear befuddled. (In the articles below note the alignments taking place between Russia, Israel & Saudi Arabia and Turkey, Russia and The Vatican due to current events.)

3.       Regarding Egypt and Libya, I am not dogmatically stating or claiming any fulfillments of prophecy by posting the Scripture references from Daniel 11. My understanding of Scripture is anti-Christ himself that is involved in removing these "Kings", and I still believe this is to be so. However, I should state that the view of at least two pre-Nicene fathers (these are good guys), Irenaeus (a disciple of Polycarp, who was a disciple of the Apostle John, a disciple of Jesus), and his disciple, Hippolytus, was that the three Kings uprooted (Dan 7:8,20,24) are Egypt, Libya and Ethiopia from Daniel 11:43. I know this in not the modern day popular interpretation, as there are all sorts of theories and conjectures on the 10 kings. However, I cannot help but find this extremely interesting, especially in light of current affairs.

4.       That said, it is quite difficult to observe what is transpiring and not consider the possibilities knowing all the other pieces of the prophetic puzzle that are in place, those being the apostasy in the church, Israel and incredible rate in which Jewish people are turning to Jesus and the incredible amount of worldwide persecution and other signs that shout, the return of Christ is at the door. Still, we may just be witnessing the circular fulfillments of prophecy leading up to the ultimate. It should be noted that the last actual King of Egypt in power was Farouk I and then his infant son who succeeded him for only one year until Gamal Abdel Nasser became the "President" of Modern Egypt in 1954. Additionally, the first wife of Farouk I was the sister of The Shah of Iran in which one can really start to get a sense of the meaning of The Iron and the Clay: ("And in that you saw the iron mixed with common clay, they will combine with one another in the seed of men; but they will not adhere to one another, even as iron does not combine with pottery. - Daniel 2:43) and a recapitulation of the events the took place leading up to the reign of Antiochus IV Epiphanes, one of the most major types of the anti-Christ whom Jesus refers to in The Olivet Discourse regarding a partial fulfillment of the "Abomination of Desolation."

5.       For what its worth, Libya also had a King before Muammar al-Gaddafi, Muhammad Idris bin Muhammad al-Mahdi as-Senussi or Idris of Libya.

Additional Note: I have been sitting on a significant amount of information and research for sometime waiting for the right moment, 'if and when' I should start to distribute it. The reason being is that many would just think it falls into another "conspiracy theory", however, now that the actions of governments and leaders appear more absurd than ever, these things may start to make sense when viewing the research of some who have investigated the global system from and alternative viewpoint.

In this alert you will be introduced to a few sources I have followed for some time but have been unwilling to share since they align themselves in many ways as more "left" in the traditional sense (not in today's extreme views) and may not seem acceptable to many Christians and Westerners. Let me share that "the left" is not my political background, but The Lord has taught me to let go of the things of the world and let go of my emotions in order to see who is speaking some degree of "truth" on a matter of current affairs.

I find it sad when the American broadcast of Russia Today (RT) gives more news and information on what is taking place globally and who are players involved rather than our own Western media (that said, the Israeli media, especially non-Western owned or influenced has also been excellent). Yet, this was likely true in than past when American media was reporting on Russian events. The point here is not to endorse or give credence to anyone one persons or groups particular viewpoint, but just to disseminate information from those willing to give it with the hope of shedding light on what has become a very murky time.

Please think a bit what these people say and remember that I personally work for a huge mainstream media organization and have done much research into these corporations and organizations. Also please consider what others and I propose about them being what they are. If you think it is confusing looking at the media from the outside in, I testify it is even more confusing looking from the inside out, unless of that is, you view it with these considerations.

Many co-workers of mine constantly observe that decisions made by the newspaper industry seem to never make any business sense and almost give the appearance of one "digging their own grave". One gets the same sense from much of the Western governments as well. When one starts to realize that everything is just mass deception designed to keep the people in the dark, it all starts to make sense.

May The Lord bless you and keep you,

BE/\LERT!

Scott Brisk

PS. My final note (I promise) - Jacob Prasch's book on the anti-Christ is coming out soon and although I know much of what he teaches I don't know everything, so he may have something that makes what I just said null and void. My point is, that none of us are prophets, were all just learning together.

Newsweek on the Apocalypse
Newsweek Cover apocalypse
Caption says: Tsunamis. Earthquakes. Nuclear Meltdowns. Revolutions. Economies on the Brink. What the #@%! Is Next?
WORLD MAGAZINE -  By Andre Seu - March 29, 2011
Somebody had to say it. And it struck me as ironic that it was a heathen magazine like Newsweek that said it first. Except for the last line of copy, I should think this would make a fine cover for a Christian publication about now.
To be sure, the heathen media don't mean a word of it. It's OK for them to talk about the "Apocalypse" as long as they know that you know they just mean it metaphorically; they were winking when they wrote it. What Newsweek's editors meant to say is that if they ever did believe in God, this sure would look like what the Bible says to expect. But they are educated, so they know there are reasonable explanations for why the world is going so crazy. Right?
Now we Christians, on the other hand, do believe in God. We are principally committed to the idea of an Apocalypse. (By the way, Wikipedia, while not my only source of theological truth, defines "Apocalypse" as follows: "a disclosure of something hidden from the majority of mankind in an era dominated by falsehood and misconception." That's not bad.) But we got pretty tired of centuries of Nostradamus types who thought they figured out the exact date of the Second Coming. So nowadays we obviate embarrassment by not talking about the Apocalypse at all.
This leaves the job to Newsweek. They somehow managed to devote an entire double issue to the crazy gyrations of geological and political mayhem without giving a passing thought to the God of the Apocalypse. That's not exactly all-things-considered. But something tells me that somewhere in the bowels of the magazine's headquarters, a few overeducated writers are shaking in their Rockports and whistling in the dark.

Behind the 2011 Orgy of Destabilizations: Pre-Emptive Coups by the CIA to Halt an Exodus of US Satraps and Viceroys Leading to a Multipolar World
The Coming Kingdom of anti-Christ

TARPLEY.net [Website of Webster Griffin Tarpley http://tarpley.net/biography/] - By Webster G. Tarpley, Ph.D. - March 15, 2011

Washington DC - In the late winter of 2011, governments were for a few weeks falling like bowling pins all across the Middle East and far beyond. We are witnessing a massive orgy of deliberate destabilizations of previous client regimes on the part of the CIA, the State Department, the National Endowment for Democracy, and the various NGOs and foundations which follow their lead. This has taken the form of a mad rampage of attempted color revolutions, people power coups, putsches by camarillas of generals, and incipient civil wars in such countries as Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Yemen, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and others, with the tremors being felt as far away as Belarus and China. This tsunami of coups was signaled by three waves of document dumps by the "Wikileaks" limited hangout operation of the Anglo-American intelligence community, and has been supported and encouraged by the Obama regime up to the limits of what the traffic would bear in each case. During the most recent days, the time of the Libyan civil war, the old Suez 1956 coalition of aggressive and unreconstructed British and French neo-colonialists has also reemerged as a strange historical atavism.

The Anglo-American Empire is now undergoing a collapse phase, although not caused by debt as claimed by the reactionary academic and imperialist planner Niall Ferguson at the "Aspen Ideas Festival" last July - a gathering where calls were raised for an immediate attack on Iran.1 The overthrow of existing governments and the breakup of existing national states, wherever possible, is intended to put the brakes on this collapse by preventing the national states from taking timely political action to save themselves from the imperialist shipwreck by defecting to other power centers, reversing existing alliances. The Anglo-American plan is for a super-national empire over the planet, with a neo-feudal war of all against all on the ground.

The Threatened Return of a Multi-Polar Middle East

The current goal of London and Washington is to stop a jailbreak by their former clients. Since the beginning of the end of the USSR in about 1980, the Middle East has been a unipolar Anglo-American show. The past 30 years of US-UK hegemony have been an historical oddity. Today, the Middle East is reverting to its more typical multi-polar complexion, with a revival of Chinese, Russian, Iranian, Turkish, and other interests - making a better deal for the Arabs more likely than under the recent Anglo-American-Israeli power monopoly. The current CIA destabilizations are supposed to abort this return of multipolarity to the Middle East.

In my books Obama the Postmodern Coup: the Making of a Manchurian Candidate (April 2008) and Barack H. Obama: the Unauthorized Biography (August 2008) I warned that the next phase of US imperialism under Obama would rely increasingly on subversion, destabilization, color revolutions, soft power, mass manipulation, CIA people power coups, and postmodern putsches. A color revolution was attempted by the CIA in Iran in the summer of 2009, and ended in failure. Similar color revolutions were attempted during 2010 in Italy (the purple revolution), Macedonia, Thailand, and Belarus, among others. Now, with much of the Mediterranean, Middle East, and parts of Eastern Europe under CIA attack, the thesis of my 2008 books is definitively confirmed. The CIA limited hangout operation known as Wikileaks has just launched an attack against the president of Indonesia for bribery and corruption, signaling that a CIA attack will soon be under way against Jakarta as well.

The current destabilization spree is a singular historical event. The French Revolution of 1789 was thoroughly fomented by Great Britain through economic warfare against France combined with the subversive activities of British intelligence chief Jeremy Bentham and Samuel Romilly of the Jacobin propaganda mill located on the palatial Bowood estate of Lord Shelburne in England. The 1848 wave of revolutions across Europe was organized and detonated by the British using the radical nationalists of Giuseppe Mazzini and the followers of Karl Marx and Mikhail Bakunin against the authoritarian Holy Alliance governments of Prussia, Russia, and Metternich's Austria. In 1989, Anglo-American intelligence worked hard to overthrow the Warsaw Pact Communist regimes in Eastern Europe. But in each of these cases, it was an imperial power which was seeking to destabilize one or more of its rival or enemy states. Today, the large majority of the Middle East and other nations which have been destabilized would have to be classed as clients, allies, or partners of the United States and the British. We can call figures like Ben Ali, Mubarak, and Saleh of Yemen the satraps of viceroys of the current empire. Qaddafi qualifies too, although he has been a more recalcitrant vassal. The shocker this time around is that Washington and London are attacking their own assets. So what is happening?

Analysis Of Strategic Threats

In The Current Decade
(2000-2010)
By Joel M. Skousen
Editor,
World Affairs Brief
Homepage: http://www.joelskousen.com

INTRODUCTION

Strategic threats are carefully planned threats by predator nations or groups that transcend their own normal sphere of influence and threaten the entire world with conquest and/or control. In this analysis I will discuss three current strategic world powers, which constitute a premeditated threat to world liberty, and the complex tactical maneuvers between them as they position themselves for the coming, inevitable conflict. Two of these world powers are nations--Russia and China--and the third is a transnational conspiracy of power by a combination of individuals in the West attempting to maneuver the world into a New World Order (NWO) of global control, euphemistically masquerading as a "global democracy." I will refer to the latter as Western globalists. All less powerful nations in the world fall under the influence of one of these three powers, either as direct allies, client states for the purchase of arms, and/or diplomatic allies working in collusion to further strategic goals of global hegemony. There is one further complicating factor, however. The Western globalists are divided into two main factions: a US/British faction firmly in control of the financial means of the NWO, and a European faction of hard-core leftists, secretly aligned with Moscow, which controls the majority of votes in the General Assembly of the UN. I will attempt to describe each of the three power centers, their allies, and what I believe their individual strategy involves. ...

Yemen Sets Terms of a War on Al Qaeda

NEW YORK TIMES [NYTimes Group/Sulzberger] - By Scott Shane - December 3, 2010
WASHINGTON - One Obama administration security official after another was visiting to talk about terrorism, and Yemen's redoubtable president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, seemed to be savoring his newfound leverage. ...
Diplomatic cables obtained by WikiLeaks and made available to several news organizations offer the most intimate view to date of the wily, irreverent and sometimes erratic Yemeni autocrat, who over the past year has become steadily more aggressive against Al Qaeda. But he appears determined to join the fight on his own terms, sometimes accommodating and other times rebuffing American requests on counterterrrorism.
The cables do not substantially alter the public picture of Mr. Saleh (pronounced SAH-leh), 68, a former military officer who has led Yemen for three decades. But with direct quotations from private meetings, the cables are like crisp color photographs of what was previously in fuzzy black and white. ...

Clinton Says Leaks Don't Strain Gulf State Ties

NEW YORK TIMES [NYTimes Group/Sulzberger] - By Mark Landler - December 3, 2010
MANAMA, Bahrain - The United States and Bahrain sought to project a unified front on Friday, five days after the king of Bahrain was quoted in leaked American diplomatic cables as urging Washington to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons by whatever means necessary.
Bahrain's foreign minister, while declining to confirm the remarks attributed to King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, said the Persian Gulf kingdom had repeatedly told Iran that it should not pursue a military nuclear program. None of the comments attributed to the king, he said, contradicted Bahrain's position.
"Every country in the Middle East has the right for nuclear power for peaceful use," said the foreign minister, Sheik Khalid bin Ahmed al-Khalifa, after a meeting with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.
But, he added, "When it comes to taking that power and developing it into a cycle for weapons grade, this is something that we can never accept and we can never live with in this region. We've said it to Iran."
The deepening alarm among Persian Gulf states over Iran's nuclear ambitions was not a big surprise. But the public disclosure of King Hamad's combative comments - and similar ones by King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia - has rattled the region. Gulf leaders have preferred to voice their fears about Iran privately, avoiding a direct confrontation with the Iranian government.
At their meeting on Friday, however, Sheik Khalifa and Mrs. Clinton took pains to dampen suggestions that the WikiLeaks disclosures had disrupted relations between the United States and Bahrain, or that they could fracture the international effort to pressure Iran. ...

Leaked Cables Stir Resentment and Shrugs

NEW YORK TIMES [NYTimes Group/Sulzberger] - By Alan Cowell - December 3, 2010
PARIS - In the world of diplomacy, known for its ambiguity and opacity, the WikiLeaks organization says its function is to "keep government open." But with the release of some 250,000 American diplomatic cables, the outcome may be more ambiguous, closing doors to United States diplomats, turning candor to reticence and leaving many people leery of baring their souls and secrets to American officials.
There is, so far, no evidence of any deep damage to American diplomacy - with many nations, in public anyway, brushing off the sometimes embarrassing revelations. Their own interest in a relationship with the United States, some suggested, trumps momentary awkwardness. ...
But there is no shortage of anger either - in Turkey, Russia, Mexico and elsewhere. "I am worried about the Americans spying; they have always been very interfering," said President Felipe Caldern of Mexico.
And in an age when years of diplomatic cables can be stored on a single flash drive, it appeared that WikiLeaks might not be alone:

Al Akhbar, a Lebanese newspaper that supports the Shiite militant and political group Hezbollah, has been posting documents from eight Arab countries, including Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt and Libya.

On Friday, evidence mounted of at least the beginning of damage to American allies, with officials from Canada and Germany either leaving their jobs or offering to do so as a result of the revelations. ...

Wikileaks: Egypt's Military Focus is on 'Enemy' Israel

ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Maayana Miskin - December 31, 2010
Documents revealed by Wikileaks show that Egypt continues to see Israel as its primary military threat despite a decades-old peace treaty. Egypt and Israel fought against each other in four wars before signing the treaty in 1979.
United States diplomats have been frustrated as Egyptian leaders focus on being prepared for war with Israel while ignoring threats such as terrorism and weapons smuggling.
"The United States has sought to interest the Egyptian military into expanding their mission in ways that reflect new regional and transnational security threats, such as piracy, border security, and counterterrorism," said one leaked file.
"But the aging leadership, however, has resisted our efforts and remained satisfied with continuing to do what they have done for years: train for force-on-force warfare with a premium on grounds forces and armor."
A leaked memo addressed to U.S. General David Petraeus ahead of a 2008 visit to Egypt warns that Egyptian Defense Minister Mohammed Hussein Tantawi in particular is the "chief impediment" to U.S. efforts to involve the Egyptian military in fighting modern threats. "During his tenure, the tactical and operational readiness of the Egyptian Armed forces has decayed," the memo stated. ...

Behind Tunisia Unrest, Rage Over Wealth of Ruling Family
NEW YORK TIMES [NYTimes Group/Sulzberger] - By David D. Kirkpatrick - January 13, 2011
HAMMAMET, Tunisia - This ancient Mediterranean hamlet, advertised as the Tunisian St.-Tropez, has long been the favorite summer getaway of President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali and his large extended family, many of whom have built vast beachfront mansions here with the wealth they have amassed during his years in power.
But their new and conspicuous riches, partly exposed in a detailed cable by the American ambassador and made public by WikiLeaks, have fueled an extraordinary extended uprising by Tunisians who blame corruption among the elite for the joblessness afflicting their country.
And on Thursday, idyllic Hammamet became the latest casualty of that rage, as hundreds of protesters swarmed the streets, the police fled and rioters gleefully ransacked the mansion of a presidential relative, liberating a horse from its stable and setting aflame a pair of all-terrain vehicles.
That outburst was just a chapter in the deadly violence that flared around the country and in Tunis, the capital, again on Thursday, making the government appear increasingly shaky. ...
Throughout a month of demonstrations, protesters have relied on Facebook and other social media to advertise and coordinate their actions, which started after a college-educated street vendor in a small provincial town burned himself to death in despair. (The police had confiscated his wares for lack of a permit.) ...
Just as in other protests in recent days, the demonstrators called for President Ben Ali to step down. But many seemed even more angry at his second wife, Leila Trabelsi, and her family ...
Cables from the United States Embassy in Tunis that were obtained and released by WikiLeaks, including one titled "Corruption in Tunisia: What's Yours is Mine," sketch out some of the reasons. Before her marriage to the president in 1992, Ms. Trabelsi had been a hairdresser from a humble family with little formal education. But since then, many in her family, along with the president's, have ascended to the pinnacle of wealth, owning major stakes in many of Tunisia's most prominent companies.
"Seemingly half of the Tunisian business community can claim a Ben Ali connection through marriage, and many of these relations are reported to have made the most of their lineage," the ambassador, Robert F. Godec, wrote in a cable two years ago. "Ben Ali's wife, Leila Ben Ali, and her extended family - the Trabelsis - provoke the greatest ire from Tunisians," he added, noting that he heard frequent "barbs about their lack of education, low social status and conspicuous consumption."
He added, "Tunisians also argue that the Trabelsis strong-arm tactics and flagrant abuse of the system make them easy to hate." ...

Israeli and Saudi leaders in Moscow as Palestinians ramp up missile strikes
DEBKAFILE - March 24, 2011
As Russian, Israeli and Saudi leaders discussed the ramifications of the Arab uprising in Moscow and US Defense Secretary Robert Gates talked to Israeli military chiefs in Tel Aviv, the Palestinian Hamas continued to escalate its missile offensive on Israeli cities. Thursday, March 24, heavy Grad missiles hit the towns of Ashdod and Ofakim making it the worst day of a bad week, with schools in the southern half of Israel shutting down one by one and bomb shelters being opened.

In Moscow, Debkafile's exclusive sources report that Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin was working to set up a discreet meeting between two visitors - Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Saudi Foreign Minster Prince Saudi Al-Faisal, failing which he will try and bring the Saudi Intelligence chief Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz, who arrived with the foreign minister, together with the Israeli leader.

Muqrin has met Israeli leaders in secret before, including the former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
According to our sources, the prospect of this landmark meeting was Netanyahu's pretext for rebuffing the rising domestic clamor to let the IDF give the Palestinian Hamas its deserts for the war it has unleashed against the Israeli civilian population.

The very defense and military officials who keep on telling the public, against all the evidence, that Hamas really wants calm restored, have given a quite different picture to the prime minister and defense chiefs. The radical Palestinian rulers of Gaza are in fact raising the stakes, they say, and hoping to goad Israel into an extreme response in the belief that a war clash with Israel will elevate the Gaza Strip to the same regional level as the war in Libya and the Arab uprisings, especially in Yemen and Bahrain.

They also believe it will help Syrian president Bashar Assad, who hosts a Hamas center in Damascus, by distracting attention from the bloodbath he is inflicting on protesters against his repressive regime.

Thursday, Syrian soldiers were reported to have shot 100 protesters dead in the southern town of Deraa. At some point, the West which is punishing Muammar Qaddafi for killing his own people might also take notice of Assad's actions against his.

Netanyahu's military chiefs have explained to him that abstention from a military operation against Hamas could be interpreted by the Syrian ruler as an Israeli signal of willingness to go an extra mile for the sake of peace talks.

Debkafile's Jerusalem and Moscow sources note that this is the point at which Israel's declining security situation becomes relevant to a possible Israeli-Saudi dialogue.

Neither Jerusalem nor Riyadh is at ease with the US role in favor of the popular uprisings against veteran Arab regimes - and most particularly the US-UK-French military intervention in Libya.  Both find this policy detrimental to the national and security interests of America's foremost Middle East allies.

They also share resentment for the benefits accrued from this wave of unrest by Tehran and the effect it has had to turn world attention away from its progress toward manufacturing a nuclear bomb.
The Saudi king and Israeli prime minster are apprehensive, on the strength of their intelligence input, that Iran will eventually seize control of the popular uprisings in Arab lands, especially Egypt.

Riyadh alone took a substantial precautionary step against this menace by sending military units into the Bahrain on Feb. 14 to pre-empt the Iranian-backed Shiite threat to King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the tiny kingdom's financial and oil assets at the back door of the rich eastern Saudi oil center.

Israel's leaders in contrast have never struck any position or policy with regard to the turbulence around its borders, ignoring the perils they pose to its security.

Netanyahu's trip to Moscow, which opposes the US-British-French operation in Libya, is his first attempt to explore a diplomatic option outside Israel's alliance with the United States. The Russians, the Saudis and the Israelis too see advantages in discussing such options and testing new paths of cooperation to renew the direct exchanges Riyadh and Jerusalem maintained in the past through back channels on the Iranian issue.

It is therefore not surprising to find US Defense Secretary Robert Gates arriving in Israel Thursday. He flew in from Cairo after talks with Egyptian military leaders about possible military participation in the coalition campaign against Muammar Qaddafi. In his talks with Israeli defense and military chiefs, Gates will no doubt stress the importance to Israel's security of the strong ties between Jerusalem and Washington.

"Whoever guarantees the death of King Abdullah , I will guarantee the imminent re appearance of Mahdi"

Iran squares off against Saudi Arabia over Bahrain's annexation

An Iranian government video has issued a threat to King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia , at 03.49 minutes the following threat is made "WHOEVER GUARANTEES THE DEATH OF KING ABDULLAH , I WILL GUARANTEE THE IMMINENT APPEARANCE OF (shia) MAHDI" . The presenters of the video , one dressed as a nun and the other dressed in typical jewish attire - two piece suit no tie , went on to say "WHEN ABDULLAH DIES , THE REAPPEARANCE IS GUARANTEED"  (Just amazing this is not being reported! See More Below

DEBKAFILE - April 4, 2011

The accord reached between Saudi King Abdullah and the Bahraini monarch Hamas bin Isa Al Khalifa for the oil island's virtual annexation by Riyadh has so incensed Tehran that armed Iranian-Saudi clashes with the potential for all-out warfare may soon become unavoidable, Debkafile's Iranian and Gulf sources estimate. Shiite-ruled Iraq would back Tehran in the first Shiite-Sunni collision to be sparked by the wave of unrest sweeping the Arab world - in contrast to the domestic discord raging in Libya and Yemen.

In the third week of March, Debkafile reveals, King Hamad agreed to hand over to Riyadh control Bahrain's defense, external, financial and domestic security affairs. The Saudi king's son Prince Mutaib was confirmed by the two monarchs as commander of the Saudi and GCC forces invited to enter the tiny kingdom to put down the Shiite-led uprising, and it was agreed that Saudi Arabia would soon start building a big naval base on the island opposite the Iranian coastline.

The accord between the Saudi and Bahraini monarchs appeared for the first time in DEBKA-Net-Weekly 487 on March 25. It revealed then that King Hamad had allowed his realm to become the de facto 14th province of Saudi Arabia in order to block the Shiite uprising against him and its knock-on impact on Saudi Arabia's two million restive Shiites next door.

Neither Riyadh nor Manama has made the pact public. The Bahraini province of Saudi Arabia will differ from the other 13 in that it will not be governed by a Saudi prince like the others but by a member of the Al Khalifa royal family who will enjoy equal royal privileges with his Saudi peers.
Our sources report that in closed meetings with senior Saudi princes, King Abdullah explained the fundamental importance of this step for the kingdom's national security. He reported that Iran and its Hizballah surrogate were actively stirring up Shiite opposition in Manama as the first step toward fomenting a Shiite uprising against the Saudi throne.

On March 21, Riyadh resolved to expand the terms of reference of the Saudi-Gulf military intervention requested by King Hamad.  Instead of just safeguarding the royal palace and strategic facilities against rampaging protesters, our sources report, it was decided to expand the mission to guarding Bahrain's borders against external attack - i.e. Iran or Iraq.

To this end, Saudi troop reinforcements have been pouring into Bahrain from the last week of March, including armored units and a variety of missiles. Debkafile's military sources estimate that some 11,000 Saudi and United Arab Emirates boots have hit the ground in Bahrain since then.

Four days later, on March 25, Manama announced that planes taking off from Iraq or Lebanon would not be permitted to land in the kingdom, thereby cutting of the main route used by Iran and Hizballah to bring over intelligence agents and military instructors to aid the Shiite opposition.

The second important military step afoot at present is the transfer of Saudi fleet units from the Gulf of Oman and Red Sea to the military section of Bahrain's port, where the US Fifth Fleet has its headquarters and berths its ships.  This is a provisional facility, to serve the Saudis until they finish building a port at Manama for parking their main Persian Gulf naval and marine command center, in response to the expanded facilities on the opposite shore of Iranian Revolutionary Guards' naval and marine raider units.

March 31, the Iranian parliament's security and foreign affairs committee strongly condemned Saudi military steps: "Saudi Arabia knows better than any other country that playing with fire in the sensitive Persian Gulf region is not in their interests," said the statement.

Since then, Iranian media have not stopped denouncing Saudi actions in Bahrain, likening them to Saddam Hussein's 1990 conquest of Kuwait which triggered the first Gulf War against Iraq. Riyadh was even accused of accepting clandestine US and Israeli support.

Then, Saturday, April 2, Iraq's Shiite Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki chipped in by reviling US Middle East policy as discriminating among the popular movements in motion against the different Arab dictatorial regimes: "Whatever decision is made on Libya should be applied to any government that suppresses its people with iron and fire," he said.

Sunday, April 3, the threatening recriminations coming from Tehran and Baghdad prompted the Gulf Cooperation Council to hold a special foreign ministers' meeting. It passed a resolution which "severely condemned Iranian interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain in violation of international pacts."

Language this blunt has never before been heard from GCC leaders. It is attributed by our Gulf sources to Saudi King Abdullah's adamant resolve to challenge Tehran headon on every issue affecting the Gulf region's security, to the point of Saudi military intervention when called for - even at the risk of precipitating an armed clash between Saudi Arabia and Iran.

The Islamic Republic finds itself confronted with its first forthright, no-nonsense challenge: If it backs down in the face of Saudi military activism, the Shiite communities across the region will conclude that Iran is both unable and unwilling to stand up for the Shiite-Arab revolt against Sunni regimes - whether in Bahrain, in other Gulf emirates or in Yemen and Lebanon.

Iraqi Prime Minister al Maliki faces the same quandary with regard to Iraqi Shiites who consider Bahraini coreligionists to be an integral part of their tribes and clans.

It is taken for granted by Saudi Arabia, Gulf capitals and Western military and intelligence observers that Tehran has been pushed into a corner from which it cannot afford to pull back from its overarching commitment to sponsor Bahrain's Shiites. The Iranians are therefore expected to send their Bahraini Shiite networks into terrorist action against Saudi military targets very soon.  Riyadh is already braced for these assaults - and not just in Bahrain but in other GCC states including Saudi Arabia proper.

They will not go unanswered; hence the dire predictions among seasoned observers that armed hostilities between Shiite Iran and Sunni Saudi Arabia may at some point become unavoidable.

Gaddafi sitting on 143 tonnes of gold in Libya: report
THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD [Fairfax-Syme Group] - By Glenda Kwek - March 22, 2011
Libyan leader Muammer Gaddafi is reportedly sitting on a 143.8-tonne $6.4-billion pot of gold - enough to pay mercenaries to fight for him for years.
The gold bullion - held by the Libyan central bank and controlled by Colonel Gaddafi - is among the 25 largest reserves in the world, the Financial Times reported, citing the International Monetary Fund.
They provide the 68-year-old Libyan strongman a lifeline after billions of assets held offshore were frozen by the United States and the 27 member states of the European Union.
The gold reserves are believed to have been moved from the central bank in the capital, Tripoli, to another city such as Sebha in the south, which is near Libya's African neighbours Chad and Niger, after fighting broke out, the Times reported.

While bankers told the Times that international banks or trading houses were unlikely to buy any gold believed to be from Libya, Colonel Gaddafi may find buyers in Chad or Niger.
"If a country like Libya wants to make their gold liquid it would probably be in the form of a swap - whether for arms, food or cash," Walter de Wet, the head of commodities research at Standard Bank, told the Times.
The price of gold has risen recently, fuelled by growing instability in the Middle East and North Africa.
"If the dollar remains weak and we get further unrest in the Middle East, there is a very reasonable chance for gold to test the record high," Darren Heathcote, head of trading at Investec Australia, told Reuters.

Ousted Egyptian dictator Hosni Mubarak reportedly used the 18 days of protests against his rule to move his fortune - estimated at up to $64 billion - to untraceable accounts in Western countries.
Other countries buying large amounts of gold include Iran, China, Russia and India, the Times said.
The United States holds the world's biggest gold reserves - 8965.6 tonnes, according to the World Gold Council.
Other countries with massive stockpiles include Germany with 3749.8 tonnes, China with 1161.9 tonnes, India with 614.8 tonnes and Venezuela with 401.1 tonnes.

'Qaddafi is Jewish and I'm His Cousin'

ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Elad Benari and Yoni Kempinski - March 1, 2011  Col Moammar Gadhafi
There have been rumors in the past about Libyan leader Moammar Qaddafi's Jewish roots, and now it seems to be confirmed. Israel National News TV met with Gita Boaron, who claims that the Libyan dictator is indeed Jewish and that she is a distant cousin.
"Qaddafi's grandmother is my grandmother's sister," explained Boaron. "His grandmother is my father's grandmother. She was Jewish, became Muslim and married the town sheikh. She had children and he's her grandson so he's considered Jewish because his mother was born to a Jewish mother. So it means he's Jewish."
Boaron, who heard the story about Qaddafi's Jewish roots from her mother as she was growing up, said that her family has never even considered getting closer to Qaddafi, since "There's no place like Israel," as she put it.
She noted that it is only recently that Qaddafi has really become anti-Jewish.
"He always loved the Jews and didn't do anything bad to them," she said. "The moment he started to speak against the Jews, I said: 'Just wait. He'll get what's coming to him.' Two weeks later the protests started there."
Boaron noted the historically good connections that Qaddafi had with the Jewish people. "They say he had connections with the Jews. His son is going to marry a Jewish woman, maybe he already married her. It was in the media, that his son married a Jewish woman from Italy or France."
She described the current situation in the Arab world as "chaos. One eats the other. May they eat one another and not us."

Picture of the Day: Qaddafi's American-Jet-Crushing Golden Fist Sculpture

THE ATLANTIC [Atlantic Media Company] - By Alexis Madrigal - February 22, 2011
Muamarr Qaddafi spoke to (or perhaps at) the people of his country today on Libyan state television. Al Jazeera English rebroadcast the feed with a translator. Intercut with Qaddafi's various rantings and ravings, we were shown a few street scenes including this one of a sculpture in Tripoli. It shows a golden fist crushing an American jet, and may have been commissioned after Ronald Reagan ordered airstrikes on the country in 1986.
It's not the first time the sculpture has made an appearance on the world stage. Qaddafi managed to get French President Nicolas Sarkozy in front of it for a photo op a few years ago. The sculpture apparently stands outside a building destroyed by American forces during the Reagan-era raid and from which Qaddafi appears to be giving his speech.

London parley divided on Libya. More shocks in Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Syria

DEBKAFILE - March 30, 2011
The London conference attended by 40 foreign ministers and various delegations ended Tuesday, March 29 with the US and Britain ranged in favor of arming the Libyan rebels and France and Italy against. It also passed control of the coalition offensive to a "contact group" with the vague brief to map out Libya's future.
The conference therefore relegated the Libyan conflict to the same uncertain fate as the other Arab uprisings, which still face more bloody paroxysms on the road to unknowable outcomes. ...

Qaddafi's Mideast Solution: Isratine

ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu - September 24, 2009
Libya's eccentric dictator Muammar Qaddafi told a sleepy United Nations audience Wednesday night that he has the solution to the Israeli-Arab conflict:
Irastine
Qaddafi's proposal for a single state called Isratine, an acronym for Israel and Palestine
. He previously has suggested the term, but last night was the first time the phrase was introduced in the United Nations

"The solution is a democratic state without religious fanaticism," he said. "Everybody should live in peace. Isratine, Isratine is the solution." Qaddafi did not resort to including his usual anti-Israeli rhetoric.

Qaddafi's speech was the first time in his 40 years in power that he has addressed the U.N. General Assembly, but many of the ambassadors either walked out or slept. At one point, he scolded the tired delegates, "Please can I have your attention," he said in his native language. "All of you are tired, having jet lag. ... You are tired. All of you are asleep."
Besides calling for a single state with a new name, the Libyan leader's rambling one hour and 35-minute speech included demands for $7.77 trillion in compensation for African countries for damages when they were colonies.
He also mocked the United Nations charter, dramatically tossing over his shoulders after calling the United Nations Security Council the "terror council." As for the charter, he said Libya "does not accept it" because its preamble states that all nations are equal but that any one member of the Security Council has veto power over a majority. Libya is a temporary council member this year.

Qaddafi spent the night at the Libyan missions after hotels refused to let him bed down in their posh quarters, and New York police turned down his request to erect his elaborate Bedouin tent in Central Park

The CIA's Libya Rebels: The Same Terrorists who Killed US, NATO Troops in Iraq
TARPLEY.net [Website of Webster Griffin Tarpley http://tarpley.net/biography/] - By Webster G. Tarpley, Ph.D. - March 24, 2011
Washington DC - The current military attack on Libya has been motivated by UN Security Council resolution 1973 with the need to protect civilians. Statements by President Obama, British Prime Minister Cameron, French President Sarkozy, and other leaders have stressed the humanitarian nature of the intervention, which is said to aim at preventing a massacre of pro-democracy forces and human rights advocates by the Qaddafi regime.
But at the same time, many commentators have voiced anxiety because of the mystery which surrounds the anti-Qaddafi transitional government which emerged at the beginning of March in the city of Benghazi, located in the Cyrenaica district of north-eastern Libya. This government has already been recognized by France and Portugal as the sole legitimate representative of the Libyan people. The rebel council seems to be composed of just over 30 delegates, many of whom are enveloped in obscurity. In addition, the names of more than a dozen members of the rebel council are being kept secret, allegedly to protect them from the vengeance of Qaddafi. But there may be other reasons for the anonymity of these figures. Despite much uncertainty, the United Nations and its several key NATO countries, including the United States, have rushed forward to assist the armed forces of this rebel regime with air strikes, leading to the loss of one or two coalition aircraft and the prospect of heavier losses to come, especially if there should be an invasion. It is high time that American and European publics learned something more about this rebel regime which is supposed to represent a democratic and humanitarian alternative to Gaddafi.
The rebels are clearly not civilians, but an armed force. What kind of an armed force?
Since many of the rebel leaders are so difficult to research from afar, and since a sociological profile of the rebels cannot be done on the ground in the midst of warfare, perhaps the typical methods of social history can be called on for help. Is there a way for us to gain deeper insight into the climate of opinion which prevails in such northeastern Libyan cities as Benghazi, Tobruk, and Darnah, the main population centers of the rebellion?
It turns out that there is, in the form of a December 2007 West Point study examining the background of foreign guerrilla fighters - jihadis or mujahedin, including suicide bombers - crossing the Syrian border into Iraq during the 2006-2007 timeframe, under the auspices of the international terrorist organization Al Qaeda. This study is based on a mass of about 600 Al Qaeda personnel files which were captured by US forces in the fall of 2007, and analyzed at West Point using a methodology which we will discuss after having presented the main findings. The resulting study1 permits us to make important findings about the mentality and belief structures of the northeastern Libyan population that is furnishing the basis for the rebellion, permitting important conclusions about the political nature of the anti-Qaddafi revolt in these areas. ...

Al Qaeda: Pawns of CIA Insurrection from Libya to Yemen
al-Qaeda FlagTARPLEY.net [Website of Webster Griffin Tarpley http://tarpley.net/biography/] - By Webster G. Tarpley, Ph.D. - April 3, 2011
After two weeks of imperialist attack, Libya is being mangled by al Qaeda terrorists, civil war, NATO air raids, cruise missiles, Predator drones, and C-130 gunships - all made possible by the CIA-backed al Qaeda rebels of Cyrenaica. US, British, French, and Dutch commandos have taken leadership of the rebel forces, and are arming them with modern weapons in flagrant violation of the arms embargo specified in UN Security Council resolution 1973. Al Qaeda is also stealing heavy weapons on its own, as the president of Chad has reported. The singing tomorrows of the fatuous US-UK color revolution rhetoric have dissolved, exposing the hideous reality of a brutal, cynical, imperialist drive to destroy the modern nation-state itself.

Rebel Triumvirate of Terror Rules Darna
According to the London Daily Telegraph of March 26, Darna (also transliterated as Derna or Darnah), a key city in the rebel heartland between Benghazi in Tobruk, is commanded by al-Hasidi, an al Qaeda terrorist controller who trained and hobnobbed with Osama bin Laden at the Khost terrorist training camp in Afghanistan. Hasidi boasts of having sent 25 fighters to fight US and NATO forces in Afghanistan; one wonders how many they managed to kill. Hasidi was a US prisoner of war after being captured by the Pakistanis, but tells the Wall Street Journal of April 2 that he now hates the US only "less than 50%" hinting that Americans can redeem themselves by appeasing Al Qaeda with arms, money, political power, and diplomatic support. At his side in the city leadership is Sufian bin Kumu, Osama bin Laden's chauffeur, another terrorist who was an inmate at Guantnamo Bay for six years. Also among the Darna city fathers is al-Barrani, a devoted member of the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group, which merged with Al Qaeda in 2007.
This gaggle of fanatics, psychotics, and criminals is billed by the CIA media as an effective ruling elite for the future democratic governance of Libya. In reality, the Benghazi rebel council, heavily larded with al Qaeda terrorists, could only preside over the descent of the country into a chaos of tribalism, warlords, and criminal syndicates which would spell the end of civilization itself in the area. Precisely this appears to be the goal of US policy, and not just in Libya.

Darna, Northeast Libya: the World Capital of Terrorist Recruitment
Nor are these persons atypical. A December 2007 study by the US Military Academy at West Point showed that Libya (population 7 million) provided 20% of all Al Qaeda fighters crossing the Syrian border into Iraq at that time. This same city of Darna (population about 60,000) was the single greatest center of terrorist recruitment anywhere in the world, edging out Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (population 4.5 million); the rebel capital of Benghazi also placed in the top four. Libya sent twice as many terrorists into Iraq per capita as did Saudi Arabia, and 85% of the Libyans who indicated a specialty chose that of suicide bomber.
The London Economist, BBC Newsnight, and an increasing number of pro-Obama warmonger quackademics are attempting to obscure these plain facts. These are now mellow, pluralist, democratic terrorists, they argue. The CIA limited hangout operation known as Wikileaks has helpfully provided a few doctored cables purporting to show that it was really US support of Qaddafi that drove these fanatics into despair and terrorism - which is also part of the CIA line. On April 1, the Benghazi rebels themselves used the media presence at Friday prayers to hold up signs denying that the rebellion is run by Al Qaeda. If so, let them oust the terror triumvirate of Darna, and reveal the names of the dozen or more anonymous members of the rebel council who are suspected of belonging to Al Qaeda. ...

Four Plagues of Libya
The Libyan insurrection has four components. The first is provided by the British, and consists of the monarchist and racist Harabi and Obeidat tribes of the Benghazi-Darna-Tobruk corridor, whose traditional culture is that of the obscurantist Senussi Order. During the resistance to Italian colonialism, these tribes allied with the British and were rewarded by seeing the head of the Senussi Order placed on the throne in the person of King Idris I, overthrown by Qaddafi in 1968. Deprived of their role as the monarchist ruling class, these tribes hate the black or dark-skinned pro-Qaddafi Fezzan tribes of southwest Libya, and this has fed into the lynching and massacre of many black Africans from Chad, Mali, and Sudan working in Libya, which the western media have ignored. Enan Obeidi, the woman who claims she was raped by Qaddafi forces, is an Obeidat from Benghazi, and this puts her story into question. For the media, she is a new edition of the Kuwait incubator babies hoax of 1990, made to order to whip up war hysteria against Qaddafi.
Two ingredients come from the CIA. These are Al Qaeda itself, founded as the CIA's own Arab Legion against the USSR by then CIA deputy director Robert Gates - the current Defense Secretary- in Afghanistan in 1981-82. Another CIA ingredient is the Libyan National Salvation Front, based first in Sudan and then in Northern Virginia, which is supposedly sending the CIA asset Khalifa Hifter to lead the rebel military, most likely also to cover the presence of the Al Qaeda types.
A fourth component is contributed by the French, who arranged the defection of top Qaddafi associate Nouri Mesmari last fall, as reported by Maghreb Confidential. A clique of generals around Mesmari helped foment the military mutinies against Qaddafi in northeast Libya.
And Libya is not unique. In Yemen, al Qaeda operatives are decisive components of the CIA putsch attempt against President Saleh, which US is promoting in order to fragment Yemen into two or more rump states. Here the Al Qaeda leader is al-Shihri, a Saudi who was freed along with several other Guantnamo inmates and sent to Yemen by the Bush administration, allegedly as a humanitarian gesture, but in reality to provide leadership for the coming destabilization. Also in Yemen is the American-born Anwar Awlaki, known in the trade as Awlaki the CIA lackey, an obvious US double agent who has been used to give the Al Qaeda seal of approval to dozens of terrorists including the Fort Dix six, Major Hasan of Fort Hood, and Mutallab of Nigeria, the Christmas 2009 underwear bomber.
In Syria, the CIA goal is to deprive Iran of an ally, to isolate Hezbollah, to oust Russia from the Tartus naval station, and to build the power of the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the principal force promoting the insurrection so far.

[Be Alert Note: Below, notice the alignment beginning to take place between, Turkey, Russia and The Vatican on this Issue.]
Demand that the State Department Explain Why the US is Arming al Qaeda Terrorists
Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan has rightly warned against the NATO policy of arming the Libyan rebels, since this would be "conducive to terrorism." Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov has also condemned any NATO arming of the rebels. Pope Benedict XVI's call for a cease-fire goes in the same direction. Russia, Turkey, China, and other governments must now formally demand explanations from the State Department as to why the US is providing the most dangerous international terrorists with modern weapons and training, while proposing to award them large chunks of the $32 billion of frozen Libyan government assets, plus a share in coming oil revenues. This is enough to make the Mediterranean, the Arab world, and southern Europe boil over with refugees, piracy, mayhem, and war.
Under Bush and Cheney, the alleged presence of Al Qaeda was used as a pretext for bombings and invasions. Under Obama, an overstretched and moribund US-UK imperialism is using al Qaeda as its own irregular infantry in the effort to harass and cripple the nation-states of the world, causing them to disintegrate into a tribal, sectarian, criminal, and warlord chaos. In the current phase, al Qaeda has resumed its original status as CIA guerrillas. As a result, civilization itself is threatened across vast areas of the globe. If you are skeptical, just take a look at the city council of Darna, Libya.

Unrest in Yemen Seen as Opening to Qaeda Branch

NEW YORK TIMES [NYTimes Group/Sulzberger] - By Eric Schmitt - April 4, 2011
WASHINGTON - Counterterrorism operations in Yemen have ground to a halt, allowing Al Qaeda's deadliest branch outside of Pakistan to operate more freely inside the country and to increase plotting for possible attacks against Europe and the United States, American diplomats, intelligence analysts and counterterrorism officials say.
In the political tumult surrounding Yemen's embattled president, Ali Abdullah Saleh, many Yemeni troops have abandoned their posts or have been summoned to the capital, Sana, to help support the tottering government, the officials said. Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, the group's affiliate, has stepped in to fill this power vacuum, and Yemeni security forces have come under increased attacks in recent weeks.
A small but steadily growing stream of Qaeda fighters and lower-level commanders from other parts of the world, including Pakistan, are making their way to Yemen to join the fight there, although American intelligence officials are divided on whether the political crisis in Yemen is drawing more insurgents than would be traveling there under normal conditions. ...

More than 50 killed as protests spread to 25 Syrian towns

DEBKAFILE - April 8, 2011
The pro-democracy, anti-Assad days of rage spread dramatically across Syria Friday, April 8, flaring in 25 cities and seriously shaking Bashar Assad's 11-year old grip on power for the first time since the movement began three weeks ago. At least 50 people were killed - 30 demonstrators and 20 security officers - and hundreds injured - many of them in the southern town of Daraa, the epicenter of the opposition movement.
There, around 100,000 protesters gathered from villages around the town and managed to drive Assad's security forces into retreat. Four Damascus suburbs were the scene of demonstrations as well as, for the first time, Tartous, Abu Kemal and Hamma.  Kurdish cities were also aflame with protest.
To topple Assad, the Sunnis, who are 76 percent of the Syria's population of 26 million, must join the protest movement en masse. Friday, they began hitching their support to the protest movement in sunstantial numbers for the first time.
Outbreaks in Hamma, where 29 years ago Bashar Assad's father put down an uprising by slaughtering 25,000 Sunnis, indicate that the Sunni population has crossed the fear threshold which kept it docile under Assad rule.
Until this Friday, the heads of Syrian Revolution 2011, the front established by opposition groups and the Muslim Brotherhood, instigated a campaign of passive resistance. They told the population, for example, to stop paying their electricity bills, an act of protest that has caught on in Syria's big cities. Furthermore, the important port-town of Latakia split down the middle between two opposing camps - the 300,000 members of the ruling Allawite sect fear to venture into the districts populated by the town's 400,000 Sunnis - and vice versa.
Army control was reduced to keeping open the road linking the Syria's main import and export port facilities to the highway out of the city.
The disturbances Friday did not reach the center of Damascus or Aleppo, a Sunni city of 2.8 million inhabitants which is Syria's economic hub. Major outbreaks there would drive a big crack in Assad's hold on power.. ...

Just Another Puppet

FACT CHECK: How Obama's Libya claims fit the facts
ASSOCIATED PRESS - By Calvin Woodward and Richard Lardner - March 29, 2011
WASHINGTON - There may be less than meets the eye to President Barack Obama's statements Monday night that NATO is taking over from the U.S. in Libya and that U.S. action is limited to defending people under attack there by Moammar Gadhafi's forces.
In transferring command and control to NATO, the U.S. is turning the reins over to an organization dominated by the U.S., both militarily and politically. In essence, the U.S. runs the show that is taking over running the show.
And the rapid advance of rebels in recent days strongly suggests they are not merely benefiting from military aid in a defensive crouch, but rather using the multinational force in some fashion - coordinated or not - to advance an offensive.
Here is a look at some of Obama's assertions in his address to the nation Monday, and how they compare with the facts:

OBAMA: " ... NATO, has taken command of the enforcement of the arms embargo and no-fly zone. ... In that effort, the United States will play a supporting role."

THE FACTS: [...] The United States supplies 22 percent of NATO's budget, almost as much as the next largest contributors - Britain and France - combined. A Canadian three-star general was selected to be in charge of all NATO operations in Libya. His boss, the commander of NATO's Allied Joint Force Command Naples, is an American admiral, and the admiral's boss is the supreme allied commander Europe, a post always held by an American.

OBAMA: "Our military mission is narrowly focused on saving lives."

THE FACTS: Even as the U.S. steps back as the nominal leader, reduces some assets and fires a declining number of cruise missiles, the scope of the mission appears to be expanding and the end game remains unclear.
Despite insistences that the operation is only to protect civilians, the airstrikes now are undeniably helping the rebels to advance. ...

OBAMA: Seeking to justify military intervention, the president said the U.S. has "an important strategic interest in preventing Gadhafi from overrunning those who oppose him. A massacre would have driven thousands of additional refugees across Libya's borders, putting enormous strains on the peaceful - yet fragile - transitions in Egypt and Tunisia. ...

THE FACTS: Obama did not wait to make that case to Congress, despite his past statements that presidents should get congressional authorization before taking the country to war, absent a threat to the nation that cannot wait.
"The president does not have the power under the Constitution to unilaterally authorize a military attack in a situation that does not involve stopping an actual or imminent threat to the nation," he told The Boston Globe in 2007 in his presidential campaign. "History has shown us time and again ... that military action is most successful when it is authorized and supported by the legislative branch."
Obama's defense secretary, Robert Gates, said Sunday that the crisis in Libya "was not a vital national interest to the United States, but it was an interest."

OBAMA: "And tonight, I can report that we have stopped Gadhafi's deadly advance."

THE FACTS: The weeklong international barrage has disabled Libya's air defenses, communications networks and supply chains. But Gadhafi's ground forces remain a potent threat to the rebels and civilians, according to U.S. military officials. ...

OBAMA: "Some nations may be able to turn a blind eye to atrocities in other countries. The United States of America is different. And as president, I refused to wait for the images of slaughter and mass graves before taking action."

THE FACTS: Mass violence against civilians has also been escalating elsewhere, without any U.S. military intervention anticipated.
More than 1 million people have fled the Ivory Coast, where the U.N. says forces loyal to the incumbent leader, Laurent Gbagbo, have used heavy weapons against the population and more than 460 killings have been confirmed of supporters of the internationally recognized president, Alassane Ouattara.
The Obama administration says Gbagbo and Gadhafi have both lost their legitimacy to rule. But only one is under attack from the U.S.
Presidents typically pick their fights according to the crisis and circumstances at hand, not any consistent doctrine about when to use force in one place and not another. They have been criticized for doing so - by Obama himself.

In his pre-presidential book "The Audacity of Hope," Obama said the U.S. will lack international legitimacy if it intervenes militarily "without a well-articulated strategy that the public supports and the world understands."

He questioned: "Why invade Iraq and not North Korea or Burma? Why intervene in Bosnia and not Darfur?"

Now, such questions are coming at him.

Libyan minister to take Turkish peace plan to Gaddafi
Recep Tayyip Erdogan
Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Rebels also 'positive' about three-point plan after separate meeting with Turkish officials

THE GUARDIAN [Guardian Media Group, UK] - By Chris McGreal in Benghazi, Harriet Sherwood in Tripoli and Seumas Milne - April 7, 2011
Turkey has proposed a path to a peaceful resolution to the deadlocked conflict in Libya, involving a withdrawal by Muammar Gaddafi's forces from cities held by the rebels, and democratic reform.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish prime minister, has outlined the proposal in Ankara, saying: "We are working on the details of this roadmap." It would include humanitarian corridors in Libya, he said.
Turkey, which this week hosted an envoy from the Gaddafi regime, the new foreign minister, Abdel Ati al-Obeidi, said the measures would be discussed at an international meeting on Libya in Qatar next week. The US, European countries and Middle Eastern allies will take part.
Obeidi was reported to be floating ideas for a three-country tour in search of a political solution, with Gaddafi staying in power while constitutional reforms were introduced. Libya's opposition and the international coalition reject any plan involving Gaddafi remaining in power.
Erdogan outlined three elements to his proposal: a ceasefire in the cities surrounded by Gaddafi's forces, including Misrata; a humanitarian corridor to allow aid to enter, co-ordinated with Tripoli; and negotiations leading to a new political process in Libya, including free elections.
Sources close to Erdogan said he had discussed the proposal with Obeidi, who would take the message back to Tripoli.
The Turkish government also met Mustafa Abdul Jalil, the chairman of the rebel council, in Doha recently. Jalil was said to have been "positive" about the proposal. ...

Power Play: Turkey's Bid to Trump Iran

WORLD AFFAIRS JOURNAL [American Peace Society] - By Hillel Fradkin and Lewis Libby - January/February 2011
Today is a turning point in history. Nothing will ever be the same again." So said Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan shortly after nine Turks aboard a Turkish ship died in a May 2010 clash with Israelis. The ship had challenged Israel's embargo on terror-related goods bound for Gaza. Some observers said that the prime minister shook visibly as he spoke that day.
Erdogan was indeed marking a historic turning point. But not in Turkish-Israeli relations. Rather, he should have been seen-and in fact has been seen throughout the Middle East-as signaling a much broader and more ambitious regional agenda for Turkey, one that will impact its relations with Iran. And to the degree that this agenda succeeds, Erdogan's words will be seen as prophetic: nothing hereafter will be the same. ...
No explicit declaration marked this change, for none was wise or needed. Erdogan still calls Turkey a bridge to the Muslim world and tells Westerners that he will be an honest broker between them and it. But the Muslim world understands very well that Turkey has tilted toward the East. Until recently, Erdogan had quietly pursued this shift in three main ways: positioning Turkey to benefit from the decline of the Arab states whose leadership of the region has dramatically deteriorated in the past decade; reaching out to Iran, the most openly aggressive claimant for regional leadership and standard bearer for hostility toward the West; and slowly redefining Turkey's domestic priorities and politics. Few expected the EU to embrace Turkish membership, but Erdogan adroitly used the EU rejection to undermine Ataturk's Westernizing legacy. There is a certain artistry, if not originality, in plotting behind the brim of Ataturk's Western ideals to favor the headscarf. ...

Turkey: Islamist Consolidate Power By Purging The Military

JOSHUAPUNDIT - By Rob Miller - February 15, 2011
While everyone's eyes are on Egypt and its possible Islamization, something even more significant is going on under the wire in Turkey.
The government of Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan took a major step towards consolidating its regime by conducting what amount to show trials of high ranking military officers and political opponents on charges that they attempted to overthrow Erdogan's Islamist government in 2003.
A Turkish court ruled Friday, February 12th that 133 current and former Turkish military officers must be immediately arrested and jailed pending the outcome of their trial on charges of plotting to overthrow the government and issued warrants for the immediate arrests of 29 other officers.
... As soon as the ruling was issued by the bench, the court's doors were sealed, security forces cleared the courtroom and the defendants, including the former air force and navy chiefs were immediately arrested and are being held without bail. ...
At the same time, more than 400 others - including academics, journalists, politicians and soldiers - are on trial on separate charges of plotting to bring down the government. ...
This is no small matter.Turkey's 1982 constitution proclaims Turkey's system of government as democratic, secular, and parliamentary and the country's original Constitution makes the military the guardian of Turkey's secular rule. The largely secular Turkish military has historically been a check on both Islamist and Leftist elements in the country.
Erdogan and the AKP party checkmated that role by winning a referendum on September 12, 2010 on constitutional amendments that removed the remaining obstacles to its absolute power, targeting the courts and the military.
Among other things, the referendum allowed Erdogan to change the rules and try retired members of the Turkish military in civil court who participated in the last military coup against an Islamist government, back in 1980 when Turkey was beset by internal violence. It also allows him to try the current 'conspirators' in civilian rather than military courts. This ensures that the Turkish military will no longer be the guard of secularism that it was, and to guarantee that, the very composition of the military is being changed as AKP President Abdullah Gul has been intervening in promotions and appointments of generals to block all non-Islamists from acquiring command positions. ...
Second, to make sure the outcome of the trials aren't in doubt, the new changes expanded the nation's constitutional court from 11 to 17 judges and provides that the prime minister, Erdogan appointed 14 of them, with the legislature - that's Erdogan's AKP Party - choosing the other three.
Having finished appointing his hand picked new judges, Erdogan is using them to get rid of political opposition to him in the military and civil society, and to further consolidate the AKP's rule and the increasing Islamization of Turkish law and society. ...

Iranian Rulers, Believing Pre-Messianic Destruction Is Imminent, Make Film To Prepare Muslims

The Coming is Upon Us - Israel Shall be Destroyed! (Watch the Video)

PAJAMAS MEDIA - By Reza Kahlili - March 28, 2011
Several months ago, I was informed by my contacts in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard that the Basij had started work on a film that had the approval of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The purpose of the project: to inform Muslims across the globe of the immediate coming of the last Islamic messiah. As my English translation of the film makes clear (watch it exclusively at PJTV), the Iranian leaders, now more than ever, feel that all the stars are aligned for such event.

Ever since the Iranian Revolution of 1979, the Islamic rulers of Iran have declared themselves representatives of God on Earth, believing their mission is to pave the way for the reappearance of the Shiites' 12th imam, Mahdi.

Their belief is based on the centuries-old Hadith by Prophet Mohammad and his descendants, who have provided clear guidance as to the timing of The Coming.

According to the Hadith, in the age of The Coming a revolution takes place in Iran. This is a key sign indicating that the reappearance is near, and serves as the initial preparation in the worldwide movement for The Coming of the last messiah. Based on this belief, the leaders of Iran see it as their duty to prepare the ground for The Coming.

One of the most important keys to securing the reappearance of the last messiah - as called for in the Hadith - is the annihilation of Israel, and the conquering of Beitol Moghadas (Jerusalem). They state with conviction that Islam will soon conquer the world, and that all infidels will be destroyed.

The pursuit of nuclear bombs by the radicals ruling Iran is directly connected to this belief: war, chaos, and lawlessness must engulf the world to pave the way for Imam Mahdi's reappearance.

This movie has been produced in Iran by an organization called Conductors of The Coming, in collaboration with the Iranian president's office and the Basij (Iranian paramilitary force). Also, reports indicate that Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, President Ahmadinejad's top adviser and chief of staff, was directly involved with this project. The movie was completed a few months ago and was recently screened for the high clerics by the Iranian president's office, with one of its high-ranking official analyzing it.

Mashaei reflects the Iranian leaders' belief very clearly:

Therefore let us shout out loud that The Coming is soon and that evil should be fearful. We live with these thoughts every day and our lives are filled with The Coming of the last imam. That human will reappear and fill the world with justice and establish his promised governance on earth. The very world has witnessed too much bloodshed of the innocent for others to build their palaces. The very world is filled with shouts for justice. The innocent and the oppressed are losing their lives to world powers. It is in this very world where the oppressors rule and this world that Allah will command the last imam to appear and forever put an end to injustice. At that time the world will belong to the righteous.

Currently this movie is being distributed throughout the Basij and Revolutionary Guards' bases. The producers are in the middle of translating it into Arabic, with the purpose of mass distribution throughout the Middle East. Their intention is to incite further uprisings, with the hopes of motivating Arabs to overthrow U.S.-backed governments.

The final goal? The annihilation of Israel and Allah's governance of the world.

Editor's note: We can't overstate the importance of the English translation of this film. Watch it exclusively at PJTV.

Merkel, Netanyahu likely to discuss Iran bank: source

REUTERS [Thomson-Reuters] - By Brian Rohan - April 4, 2011

BERLIN - German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu are likely to discuss a German bank providing financial services to Iran when they meet this week, a source said Monday.

Israel and the United States want Germany to shut down the bank, Hamburg-based EIH, saying it supports the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction by handling payments to known participants in Iran's contentious nuclear program. ...

The U.S. Treasury Department in September sanctioned EIH for facilitating billions of dollars of transactions with Iranian banks blacklisted by the United States and the European Union for aiding Iran's nuclear or missile programs.

Germany says it monitors EIH closely but cannot act against the bank unless the European Union agrees to sanction it, or if it engages in business with institutions on the EU blacklist. EU rules allow payments for Iranian oil and natural gas.

The controversy resurfaced last week when it emerged Berlin had authorized India to pay for billions of euros of oil purchases from Iran via the bank, with payments cleared by Germany's central bank, the Bundesbank.

Berlin allowed the transactions to pass through its system, potentially raising its own problems with Washington, after India's central bank decided to restrict payments to Iran to placate Washington's tough stance. ...

An official from the U.S. Treasury department said the United States was concerned about reports Germany had authorized the use of EIH as a conduit for India's oil payments, but that it had not revised its aims. ...

Iran to build permanent naval base in Syria

DEBKAFILE - March 1, 2011
Just two days after two Iranian warships reached the Syrian port of Latakia via the Suez Canal, Friday, Feb. 25, an Iranian-Syrian naval cooperation accord was signed providing for Iran to build its first Mediterranean naval base at the Syrian port, debkafile's military and Iranian sources reveal.
... Latakia harbor will be deepened, widened and provided with new "coastal installations" to accommodate the large warships and submarines destined to use these facilities.
Two more events were carefully synchronized to take place in the same week.
On Feb. 24, ... Hamas fired long-range made-in-Iran Grade missiles from the Gaza Strip into Israel, one hitting the main Negev city of Beersheba ...
The second occurrence was a contract announced by Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov for the sale of advanced Russian shore-to-sea cruise missiles to Syria. The Yakhont missile system has a range of 300 kilometers and skims the waves low enough to be undetected by radar. debkafile's military sources take this sale as representing Moscow's nod in favor of the new Iranian base at Latakia, 72 kilometers from the permanent naval base Russia is building at the Syrian port of Tartous.
The Russians are willing to contribute towards the Iranian port's defenses and looking forward to cooperation between the Russian, Iranian and Syrian fleets in the eastern Mediterranean opposite the US Sixth Fleet's regular beat.
This unfolding proximity presents the United States with a serious strategic challenge and Israel with a new peril ...

'Iran Hanging One Person Every 12 hours'

ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Gil Ronen - February 6, 2011
The Teheran regime has hanged 66 individuals since the end of 2010, according to France 24 International News. Among them was a 46-year-old Iranian-born, Dutch national Sahra Bahrami, who was hung on January 29 on drug-smuggling charges.
Holland's Foreign Ministry said it was "shocked, shattered by this act by a barbaric regime," according to Agence France Presse.
Bahrami's sister dismissed the Iranian charges, which she contended were fabricated. ...
Catherine Ashton, The European Union's representative in talks with Iran over their nuclear program, said that, "Executions are taking place at an alarming rate." Ashton made her remarks in reference to the hanging of 10 alleged drug traffickers, only two days prior to Bahrami's killing. ...
