Be Alert! 'Without Natural Affection' USA Passes 53 Million Abortions
38 Years of Roe v. Wade
And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. - Romans 1:28-32 (KJV)

Shalom in Christ Jesus,
Sanctity of Human Life Sunday was celebrated on January 23, 2011 in The United States, although many churches celebrated the previous Sunday January 16th. Thus the flurry of articles and statements regarding abortion and the Roe v. Wade decision released in recent days and weeks, a few of which are posted below.
It is important to note that there has been a steady and growing change in viewpoint towards pregnancy and life of the unborn in the U.S., and latest polls now show that a majority of Americans support a "pro-life" stance and are against abortion. However, we must be "wise as serpents and innocent as doves" as those desiring to manipulate the masses can skew nearly all information - the point being that it is quite likely that there has always been a pro-life majority in America but it is only because of other recent trends that the information has become harder to conceal. A recent array of semi cult-classic films (ex. Bella, official site here) about young women wanting to keep their babies and now the trend of many young girls wishing to find 'unconditional love', comfort and attention from having children while yet themselves still children is making later Generation Y's and Generation Z the "anti-abortion generations."
However, America is also a culture that continues to glorify and celebrate death in many deceptive and twisted ways, especially in video games and entertainment. These mixed messages should be a clear indicator that this is a sick and sin filled society. Believers need to stop looking at the United States (or any Western country) as an extension of the church and see them for what they really are: People who are lost and filled with a mixture of truth and error. Neo-pagans who need to hear the saving gospel of Jesus Christ preached. They have become as much of a mission field as much as any other country of the world.
We should note the obvious concerns of any church related event that overlooks the problems false unity (ecumenism). We must never let unity on an issue such as this (an issue which is of great importance) cloud our judgment if there happens to be a diametrically opposed doctrine in the area of the Deity of Christ, Tri-unity of the Godhead, Sufficiency and Authority of the Scriptures, Justification by Grace alone as defined by the 66 Books of the Bible. Our main concern here is to sound the warning of judgment that has and will continue to come from this action on any organization, country or nation that kills it's own children, whether born or unborn.
At the same time, be aware that there are a number of Christian ministries that are dedicated to reaching out to women (and men) who have found themselves in the situation of an unplanned pregnancy. These ministries teach young women that there is a choice of life rather than abortion and sometimes are able to lead women to Christ. For that let us pray that The LORD God grants us mercy and grace for the time to minister to those who still have ears to hear and eyes to see.
Below are a few articles of importance including commentary by Moriel's own Danny Isom.
May the Lord bless you and keep you,

38 Years of Roe v. Wade
| MORIEL MINISTRIES - By Danny Isom - January 23, 2011
[Ed. Note: The two articles mentioned in the first paragraph are posted below]
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. (Lk 1:41) And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, paid tithes, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. (Heb 7:9-10) During the past couple of weeks there have been two news items in the mainstream media which have astounding spiritual implications for every American whether they are a Christian or not. As reported through the Moriel website, at some point during this past year the U. S. effected the 53 millionth abortion since the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade ruling 37 years ago. A parallel story was also published announcing that the health department in New York City reports that 40% of all pregnancies in that city end in abortion. (NY Times article here.) This second story in particular indicates that this behavior is accelerating in its pace and it will take much fewer than 37 years to reach the next 53 millionth abortion. I know that simply explaining biblical truth will probably not change individual behavior much less this staggering, overall trend, but it is important to blow the horn of warning regardless of whether it is heeded or not. One of the key arguments - perhaps the key argument - revolves around the inception of life. At what point life begins seems to be the fulcrum for the debate along its entire spectrum by all sides. Traditionally Christians cite the verse above of John the Baptist's recognition of the coming Messiah while still in Elizabeth's womb as doctrinal evidence that life begins there. One of the biggest problems with Roe v. Wade, however, is that it established the concept of trimesters and defined the parameters of the debate. So the arguments are often limited to a discussion of which trimester spawns life or at the least has limited the argument to the procreation process. I would suggest that Christians need to carefully read and understand the second scriptural quotation provided. And, so to speak, through Abraham even Levi, who received tithes, paid tithes, for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met him. (Heb 7:9-10) It speaks of Levi as "still in the loins" of Abraham. Abraham was not Levi's immediate biological father. In fact, he is not even his biological grandfather. In accordance with our Western approach to genealogy, Abraham was Levi's great-great grandfather. Although most would limit an abortion argument to the birth of Abraham's son Isaac, the biblical view is that life in a single person encompasses at least three subsequent generations! The scriptural view would appear to be that life for Levi was not limited to a trimester during the pregnancy of his mother, but that it was accounted for across several generations going back to "the loins of his father" Abraham. It extended beyond just his immediate father to several generations back. Or another way of looking at it is the seed we carry is not limited to the immediate generation to come but involves all the generations to come after us. While the more immediate situation is that we should weep and mourn before God for what has been done and the inevitable judgment it will bring upon us, it should be incumbent on every Christian to know God's mind as to when life begins and to not be drawn into an argument which is not tenable in the first place and which has been founded on incorrect assumptions from the outset. If they can get us to argue on their terms, which is based on a wrong and false notion from the beginning, we have unwittingly lost in general and been drawn into their deception specifically. Staggering: U.S. passed 53 million abortion mark in 2010
| BAPTIST PRESS [Southern Baptist Convention] - By Michael Foust - January 14, 2011
EDITOR'S NOTE: (Baptist Press) The following story is being posted in conjunction with Sanctity of Human Life Sunday (Jan. 16) in the Southern Baptist Convention.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- At some point in 2010 -- 37 years removed from the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision -- a doctor in the United States performed the nation's 53 millionth legal abortion, a sobering stat that ethicists say should drive the public to speak up for the unborn.
The statistic is based on data compiled by the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-choice organization whose studies are acknowledged by most major pro-life organizations.
The nation's abortion rate reached a peak of 1.6 million in 1990 and has steadily fallen in most years ever since, although Guttmacher's latest data, from 2008, showed the abortion rate had risen slightly to 1,212,000 million from 1,206,000 in 2005, the most recent data point. Because Guttmacher no longer releases abortion data every year, the 53 million figure is based on assumptions that the abortion rate remained relatively unchanged in 2009 and 2010.
The 1973 Roe decision, coupled with the companion Doe v. Bolton ruling, legalized abortion nationwide for effectively any reason during all nine months of pregnancy.
"Fifty-three million is the population of a medium-size country. Imagine the outcry if the people of Spain (46.1 million people) were destroyed by another nation," C. Ben Mitchell, professor of moral philosophy at Union University in Jackson, Tenn., and a consultant to the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, told Baptist Press. "Yet most of the world is silent about the destruction of the unborn. Christian love demands that we weep compassionately for the unborn, pray fervently that the killing would stop, work urgently for alternatives to abortion, and become the voice of the unborn in the public square."
The United States has one of the highest abortion rates for the developed world and also some of the world's most liberal abortion laws.
The Guttmacher 2008 data, released this year, also showed that 17 percent of all non-hospital abortions were chemical abortions -- that is, abortions performed using the abortion drug RU-486. RU 486, also known as mifepristone, is used as the first part in a two-step process in the first seven weeks of pregnancy. Mifepristone causes the lining of the uterus to release the embryonic child, resulting in his or her death. A different drug, misoprostol, is taken two days after mifepristone and causes a woman's uterus to contract, expelling her baby.
"Too many of us fail to realize the magnitude of abortion's impact on society," said Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission. "If Christ-followers are not staggered by the number of babies that have been aborted since the 1973 Supreme Court ruling in Roe v. Wade, it suggests we have bought into the notion that it is permissible to take the life of a child if its birth will inconvenience others. As believers who should be fully aware of God's personal involvement in the creation of each human being, we have every reason to be righteously indignant at society's callous attitude toward the unborn, but more than that we are morally obligated to do something to stem the shedding of innocent blood at the hands of abortionists."
Laws are important, Land said, but it's "more important to change hearts."
"It is about changing hearts, particularly through Christ-centered ministries to women who are in what they consider to be crisis pregnancies and in teaching our own children about the preciousness of every human life," Land said.
The nation's abortion rate is so high because the large majority of abortions are done for convenience. According to a 2004 Guttmacher study of women who had had abortions, rape and incest each were cited by less than half of 1 percent of all women who underwent abortion. All total, 86 percent cited reasons of convenience: 25 percent said they weren't ready for a child, 23 percent said they couldn't afford to have one, 19 percent said they didn't want any more children, 8 percent said they didn't want to be a single mother or they had relationship problems, 7 percent said they were too young to have a child and 4 percent said they believed a child would interfere with their education or career.

Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts - 2 Peter 3:3 Abortion: Easy Access, Complex Everything Else

New York City - the abortion capital of America
NEW YORK TIMES [NYTimes Group/Sulzberger] - By Ariel Kaminer - January 21, 2011 Congratulations, New York City, did you hear the news? Fire-and-brimstone predictions from across the country have been confirmed. This is officially the abortion capital of America. A health department report released last month proves it: about 40 percent of all pregnancies in the city end that way, an average of about 90,000 a year in recent years.
No one is exactly celebrating the title. Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan and a group of multidenominationally horrified clergy condemned the statistics this month. Even abortion rights advocates expressed some concern about the numbers, trying to change the conversation to a broader one on reproductive health. As for ordinary citizens, many just wondered: Really? That many?
Abortion is complicated, even in its capital city. Perhaps especially so: New Yorkers seeking to terminate a pregnancy can choose from more kinds of procedures at more kinds of facilities with fewer obstacles - and more ways to pay - than just about any place else. Women can get abortions in private doctors' offices, at public hospitals or at clinics, some of which do not require an appointment.
"They say, 'I need help,' " said a doctor who works at one community health clinic. " 'What should I do? Where can you send me?' And I say, I don't need to send you anywhere. We can do that here." Specifically, doctors can administer the combination of pills that, when taken before the ninth week of pregnancy, produce what is known as a medical (rather than a surgical) abortion.
Things can move very quickly. Within an hour of her arrival at that doctor's office, a patient obtaining that procedure might sign a consent form, make arrangements for the $375 fee - covered by most insurance - and take the first dose of medication. She would leave the office with four more pills to be taken later, a prescription for pain medication and the doctor's personal cellphone number, in case of questions. "I'm old enough to remember pre-Roe-v-Wade days," the doctor said. "A little bit of inconvenience for me is nothing compared to what people used to go through."
The name of the doctor so committed to her patients? She spoke on the condition it not be mentioned. Nor that of the community health center where she works. Though the clinic advertises its services, it is wary of unwelcome publicity. Abortion is complicated, even in its capital city.
New York has always been at the forefront of reproductive choice, from a 19th-century industry of sometimes dubious tinctures to an underground abortion network organized by local clergy in 1967. It was the home base of Margaret Sanger, the mother of American family planning. Abortion was permitted in New York State long before the 1973 Supreme Court decision - whose anniversary was Saturday - made it legal nationwide.
Unlike many other places, New York has not passed laws limiting access to abortions. Patients do not have to return to the clinic on two separate days. They do not have to be told about what the fetus will experience, or have to look at the fetus on a monitor or have the procedure narrated to them in real time. Teenagers do not need parental consent.
In many other parts of the country, doctors who want to perform surgical abortions have to go out of their way to learn how. In New York, such training is a standard part of the curriculum for obstetric and gynecological residents. So instead of quarantining abortion into special clinics, many doctors offer it as part of a menu of services.
In New York, unlike in most states, Medicaid covers abortion. (In 2009, counselors at Planned Parenthood's four clinics across the city helped more than 6,800 patients who were eligible to sign up for that program.)
Finally, New York's public hospitals are unusual for being under the control of the mayor. Just try to get elected mayor of New York without demonstrating clear support for abortion rights.
All of these circumstances have combined to make New York something of a magnet - for doctors who wish to practice without restrictions, for women who want to live in an atmosphere of sexual self-determination and even for out-of-towners who want to end a pregnancy without stigma, without hassle or just without bumping into their neighbor on the way into the clinic. In 2009, 8 percent of the abortions performed across the city were for patients who live elsewhere. In addition to everything else, our abortion industry may function as something of a tourist attraction.
The vast majority of abortions in New York - 88 percent - take place in the first 12 weeks. All but 2 percent take place in the first 20. After that, women's options narrow. It's far too late for pills, and too late for most OB-GYNS. So, many women are referred to specialists like Dr. Robert Berg, who occupy the outer edge of New York's abortion landscape, terminating pregnancies up to the legal limit of 24 weeks after conception. The procedure costs about $15,000, some of which is typically covered by insurance, and starts in his office, where he dilates the patient's cervix to approximate the effects of labor. He describes the process as "quite unpleasant." A day or two later, in an operating room at NYU Langone Medical Center, Dr. Berg removes the fetus [sic - i.e., kills a human being], either intact, using his hands, or "destructively," using medical instruments.
Dr. Berg tries to avoid getting emotional about his work. But his patients are in a different position. "An 18-year-old girl who forgets her birth control and comes to you at six or seven weeks of pregnancy is not such an emotional thing," he said. "The 41-year-old who's been trying for seven years to get pregnant, then at 21 weeks she finds out she has breast cancer and has to terminate the pregnancy, that's a much bigger deal."
As a result, Dr. Berg said, some patients seeking late-term abortions are "hostile to me, they're hostile to my office staff."
"I'm just a punching bag," he added. "I don't do well with that. Sometimes they won't even look at me the day of the procedure; they won't speak to me. That I despise. I really hate that.
"They were referred to me because I do it safely and expeditiously," the doctor continued. "To be treated like garbage - and my staff - is really very upsetting."
Abortion is complicated, even in New York.

39 Percent Of NYC Pregnancies Result In Abortion
| CBS NEWS America [CBS Corporation]/ASSOCIATED PRESS - January 7, 2011 NEW YORK -- Archbishop Timothy Dolan is calling for efforts to make abortions in New York City "rare." Dolan gathered with other religious leaders on Thursday to draw attention to the city's high abortion rate. The city health department last month released statistics that showed 39 percent of pregnancies ended with induced termination in 2009. "I re-affirm Cardinal John O'Connor's promise of a quarter-century ago that every woman facing a difficult pregnancy will be provided with free, confidential help of the highest quality from the Archdiocese of New York," said Archbishop Dolan. While the numbers have declined in the last decade, the religious leaders said they are still too high. In 2009, there were 225,667 pregnancies in the City with 126,774 resulting in live births and 87,273 resulting in abortions. In addition to those abortion numbers, there were 11,620 spontaneous terminations. Forty-six percent of all births in the Bronx result in abortions-the highest among the five boroughs, according to the report. Blacks had the highest number of abortions with 40,798 with Hispanics having the second highest at 28,364, according to the report. ...

Therefore the land mourns,
And everyone who lives in it languishes
Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky,
And also the fish of the sea disappear. - Hosea 4:3 Australia: Couple abort twin boys in desperate bid for IVF girl
| HERALD SUN [News Corporation/Murdoch] - By Shelley Hadfield - January 8, 2011 A COUPLE so desperate for a baby girl that they terminated twin boys are fighting to choose the sex of their next child. The couple, who have three sons and still grieve for a daughter they lost soon after birth, are going to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal to win the right to select sex by IVF treatment. They say they want the opportunity to have the baby daughter they were tragically denied. An independent panel, known as the Patient Review Panel, recently rejected the couple's bid to choose the sex of their next child using IVF. They have gone to VCAT in a bid to have that decision overturned. VCAT recently ruled that it has the power to review the Patient Review Panel decision. It will hear the couple's case in March. So determined are the couple to have a girl that they recently terminated twin boys conceived through IVF. The couple said it had been a traumatic decision to make but they could not continue to have unlimited numbers of children. If their test case fails, they say they will go to the US to conceive a girl. The couple, who cannot be identified, conceived their three boys naturally. The woman - in her thirties - says she loves her sons but would do anything to have a daughter. ... The woman, who is consumed by grief over the daughter who died soon after birth, admits she has become obsessed with having a daughter and it has become vital to her psychological health. Victoria's Assisted Reproductive Treatment Act 2008 bans sex selection unless it is necessary to avoid the risk of transmission of a genetic abnormality or genetic disease to a child. ...

Controversial STD drug tied to 16 more deaths
|
19-year-old reported chest pain, nausea; died of 'cardiac arrhythmia'
WORLDNETDAILY - By Bob Unruh - September 28, 2010 The case report is terse about the 19-year-old woman who was given Gardasil, a vaccine intended to guard against a sexually transmitted disease, and reported, "Headache, nausea, dizziness, chilling, tiredness, shortness of breath, complained of chest pain, severe cramps."
She died of "acute cardiac arrhythmia." Said the report, "Attempts to resuscitate her resulted in a sternal fracture, but were unsuccessful and the patient died."
That's just one of the 16 new reports that have arrived since the middle of last year that document deaths linked to Gardasil.
"To say Gardasil has a suspect safety record is a big understatement. These reports are troubling and show that the FDA and other public-health authorities may be asleep at the switch," said Tom Fitton, president of Judicial Watch, the government-watchdog organization that investigates and reports on government corruption.
"In the meantime, the public-relations push for Gardasil by Merck and politicians on Capitol Hill continues. No one should require this vaccine for young children," Fitton said.
Judicial Watch launched a comprehensive investigation of Gardasil's safety record in 2008 after the drug's manufacturer, Merck & Co., began a major effort to lobby in state legislatures to impose requirements that girls be given their product. Eventually the Centers for Disease Control suggested the maker back off its campaign.
It was in 2008 when Judicial Watch obtained documents from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration documenting "anaphylactic shock," "foaming at mouth," "grand mal convulsion," "coma" and "now paralyzed" descriptions of the complications from Gardasil. The drug is intended to address the sexually transmitted human papillomavirus, believed by researchers to be an indicator for future cases of cervical cancer. The company wanted it to be mandatory for all schoolgirls. ...
