Shalom in Christ Jesus,

Be Alert!

We are now living in an age when nearly every time one looks at news website, reads a newspaper or watches the news on television, the biblically literate will witness something pertaining to or pointing to the fulfillment of Scripture. It is truly an awesome time to be alive and yet one of the darkest as most of the world is blind to this very fact. This blindness comes from sin and the world's rejection of Christ. There is a desperate worldwide need of the salvation that comes from surrendering ones life to Jesus Christ.

This alert looks at many current events concerning Israel, biblical prophecy, archeology and science that shows the LORD is indeed "standing over His word to perform it".

May the Lord bless you and keep you,
BE/\LERT!

ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Maayana Miskin - September 5, 2010
17,880 people made aliyah (immigrated) to Israel in the Jewish year 5770, according to Jewish Agency records - up from the previous year, when 15,180 people came to Israel via the Jewish Agency.
7,340 of the new arrivals came from former Soviet Union states, an increase of 16% in Aliyah from that region. Another 1,320 came from Ethiopia, at a rate determined by the government.
5,130 came to Israel from English-speaking countries. Of those, 3,350 were from the United States, 380 from Canada, 740 from Britain, 220 from Australia and New Zealand, and 260 from South Africa.
Aliyah was up in western Europe as well. 2,420 residents of France, Belgium, Italy, and Switzerland decided to make Israel their new home in 5770, compared to 2,090 the year before. The majority of the Western European immigrants - 2,020 - came from France.
1,360 new immigrants arrived in Israel from Central and South America. 330 came from Argentina, 240 from Brazil, 160 from Mexico, 140 from Peru, 120 from Venezuela, and 90 from Uruguay. The sharpest jump in South American immigration to Israel was in Venezuela, where 120 left for Israel this year, compared to 40 the year before.
Smaller groups of immigrants came from a variety of other countries, including Thailand, Japan, Tunisia, Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, and Uganda. ...

Jewish Birth Rate in Israel at Record High
A Hebrew University demography professor has announced there were more Jewish births in the past year in Israel than any other time in the history of the State. According to data released by the Central Bureau of Statistics on the eve of the Jewish New Year 5771, the State of Israel has now reached a population of 7.645 million.
Professor Sergio Della-Pergola,  who holds the Professor Shlomo Argov Chair in Israel-Diaspora Studies at the university, said that the a survey he conducted indicates the Jewish population has seen a moderate increase in fertility rates in the past year (2.9 children), with the largest number of births of Jews in the nation's history. ...
Moreover, immigration to the state is another factor affecting the increase in the population, he said.
"While in Israel this year we recorded an increase of 1.7% in the Jewish population, in the Diaspora there was a corresponding decrease of 0.2% in the number of Jews," said Della-Pergola.
After the State of Israel, the largest concentration of Jews is found in the United States, with a population of 5.3 million, according to the CBS data. However, the professor notes, this depends on how one defines who is a Jew.
The number of Diaspora Jews in other countries is considerably less: France: 485,000; Canada: 375,000; Russia: 205,000; Argentina: 182,000; Germany: 119,000; Australia: 108,000; and Brazil: 96,000.

Potential of 4 Billion Barrels of Oil Offshore
ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu - August 29, 2010
More optimistic reports continue to flow from the giant Leviathan energy field off the Haifa coast. Following previous higher estimates of gas and "signs of oil," the latest report points to a potential of 4 billion barrels of "black gold."

The ramifications of the discovery are immense. If the estimates materialize, Israel will become self-sufficient in energy, enjoy a boon of employment for engineers and laborers, and will become an exporter of gas and oil. The shekel, barring a conflict with Hizbullah or Iran, may become rock-solid, dropping the representative rate; Israel's shekel is now worth about 26.3 cents (3.8 shekels) to the dollar.

The announcement of the new estimates states that there is a 17 percent chance of finding reserves equal to 3 billion barrels of oil at a depth of slightly more than a mile undersea. The oil field is slightly beneath the mammoth gas reserves that already have been estimated to contain 13 trillion cubic feet of gas.

There also is an 8 percent chance that another 1.2 billion barrels exist at an even lower level. Earlier this month, oil reserves at Rosh HaAyin, east of Tel Aviv and bordering Samaria, were estimated to have a possible potential of 1.5 billion barrels of oil but that commercial quantities will be much lower, if at all. Israel's estimated oil consumption is slightly less than 100 million barrels a year.

Yitzchak Teshuva, head of the Delek Group that is part of the consortium probing the Leviathan field, has jubilantly exclaimed that the gas reserves will turn Israel into an energy exporter. ...

A South African company will head the drilling, but if a decision is made to drill at deeper levels for oil, a North American company with experience at those levels will be contracted.

The estimated gas reserves already have encouraged government officials to sell back to Egypt natural gas that Israel is committed to buy. In addition, Prime Minister Netanyahu reportedly suggested to Greece that it buy natural gas from Israel.

The energy discovery has brought two headaches: several Finance ministry officials want to hike the royalties on gas and oil discoveries to add more money to government coffers, raising heated protests from the energy consortium. Secondly, Hizbullah and Lebanon are claiming that the Leviathan reserves are in Lebanese territorial waters, and have threatened war with Israel over the energy field.

The Leviathan discovery is separate from the Tamar field, located to the south, which also is estimated to contain huge gas reserves that could possibly supply Israel's gas needs at least until 2030.

US Expert Predicts 'Oil and Gas Rush' to Israel
A US energy industry expert estimates that international companies may soon join exploration efforts for oil and gas in Israel.
The expert, Fred Zeidman, told Globes website that it is very likely that international firms will join the exploration efforts on Israeli territory, a year after the 'Tamar' and 'Dalit' discoveries in the Mediterranean Sea. ...
"It happens all the time," Zeidman said. "We see in the US that the moment a company discovers oil or gas that can be transported, there's a crazy rush to the region by other companies, and that's a function of the size of the reserves found. Around the world, as soon as Noble goes to a place, many other companies follow in its wake. The prospects here are amazing, and I have no doubt that we'll see an economic boom, and a rush of more companies to Israel from overseas following Noble." ...

Arab Murmuring Over Israeli Gas Already Begun
Most of the people following the story of Israel's recent off shore gas discovery and possible onshore oil discoveries see idea of Israel as energy independent and economically prosperous as  a good thing. At least that's the assumption. But not everyone sees Israel's independence and prosperity as a plus - especially her neighbors.
If the Arab world views Israel (without hydrocarbon resources) as a worrisome usurper and unwelcome squatter today, an economically and energy independent Israel certainly won't reduce fear and loathing of it's Jewish neighbor. ...
It's no surprise that the Arab world will cry foul when Israel becomes energy independent,  I just didn't expect to see signs of it this soon. ...

Computers Explain How Moses [Sic*] Parted the Red Sea

*Ignorant, anti-Christ media at it again:

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters were divided. The sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.
- Exodus 14:21-22

Then the LORD said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the sea so that the waters may come back over the Egyptians, over their chariots and their horsemen." So Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned to its normal state at daybreak, while the Egyptians were fleeing right into it; then the LORD overthrew the Egyptians in the midst of the sea. - Exodus 14:26-27

Computer simulations, part of a larger study on how winds affect water, show wind could push water back at a point where a river bent to merge with a coastal lagoon, the team at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder said.
"The simulations match fairly closely with the account in Exodus," Carl Drews of NCAR, who led the study, said in a statement.
"The parting of the waters can be understood through fluid dynamics. The wind moves the water in a way that's in accordance with physical laws, creating a safe passage with water on two sides and then abruptly allowing the water to rush back in." ...
Drews and colleagues are studying how Pacific Ocean typhoons can drive storm surges and other effects of strong and sustained winds on deep water.
His team pinpointed a possible site south of the Mediterranean Sea for the legendary crossing, and modeled different land formations that could have existed then and perhaps led to the accounts of the sea appearing to part.
The model requires a U-shaped formation of the Nile River and a shallow lagoon along the shoreline. It shows that a wind of 63 miles per hour, blowing steadily for 12 hours, could have pushed back waters 6 feet deep.
"This land bridge is 3-4 km (2 to 2.5 miles) long and 5 km (3 miles) wide, and it remains open for 4 hours," they wrote in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS ONE. ...

Parting of Red Sea Jibes With Natural Laws
Mother Earth could have parted the Red Sea, hatching the great escape described in the biblical book of Exodus, a new study finds.
A strong east wind, blowing overnight, could have swept water off a bend where an ancient river is believed to have merged with a coastal lagoon along the Mediterranean Sea, said study team member Carl Drews of the National Center for Atmospheric Research. While archaeologists and Egyptologists have found little evidence that any events described in Exodus actually happened, the study outlines a perfect storm that could have led to the 3,000-year-old escape.
"People have always been fascinated by this Exodus story, wondering if it comes from historical facts," Drews said. "What this study shows is that the description of the waters parting indeed has a basis in physical laws." ...

After Years of War and Abuse, New Hope for Ancient Babylon
Babylon, IraqNEW YORK TIMES [NYTimes Group/Sulzberger] - By John Noble Wilford - March 22, 2010
The most immediate threat to preserving the ruins of Babylon, the site of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, is water soaking the ground and undermining what is left in present-day Iraq of a great city from the time of King Nebuchadnezzar II.

It is also one of the oldest threats. The king himself faced water problems 2,600 years ago. Neglect, reckless reconstruction and wartime looting have also taken their toll in recent times, but archaeologists and experts in the preservation of cultural relics say nothing substantial should be done to correct that until the water problem is brought under control.

A current study, known as the Future of Babylon project [also here], documents the damage from water mainly associated with the Euphrates River and irrigation systems nearby. The ground is saturated just below the surface at sites of the Ishtar Gate and the long-gone Hanging Gardens, one of the seven wonders. Bricks are crumbling, temples collapsing. The Tower of Babel, long since reduced to rubble, is surrounded by standing water.

Leaders of the international project, describing their findings in interviews and at a meeting this month in New York, said that any plan for reclaiming Babylon as a tourist attraction and a place for archaeological research must include water control as "the highest priority."

The study, aimed at developing a master plan for the ancient city, was begun last year by the World Monuments Fund in collaboration with Iraq's State Board of Antiquities and Heritage. A $700,000 grant from the United States Department of State is financing the initial two-year study and preliminary management plan. An official of the monuments fund said the entire effort could last five or six years.

"This is without doubt the most complex program we've ever had to organize," said Bonnie Burnham, the fund's president.

A few archaeologists have expressed concern about what they said was the project's slow start. Project members said that they have had serious problems persuading foreign experts to go to Iraq and then clearing them and their instruments for work there. ...

Looted Iraqi Relics Discovered in Prime Minister's Office
BAGHDAD -  The Iraqi National Museum has found more than 600 missing artifacts stashed away in a storeroom of the prime minister's office, two years after the U.S. government returned them to Iraq, officials said on Monday.
Most of the artifacts were among some 15,000 relics looted during the chaos that followed the 2003 U.S.-led invasion that ousted dictator Saddam Hussein.
The 638 pieces were recovered, handed over to the premier's office, and promptly lost again, officials said.

Thy Word is Truth
Philistine Temple Ruins Uncovered in Goliath's Hometown
ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Hana Levi Julian - July 29, 2010
Bar Ilan University archaeologists have uncovered the ruins of a Philistine temple in the ancient city of Gath, home of the Biblical Goliath, buried in one of the largest tels (ancient ruin mounds) in Israel.

The temple and a number of ritual items dating back to the 10th century BCE were discovered at Tel Tsafit (Tell es-Safit/Gath) by Professor Aren Maeir of BIU's Martin (Szusz) Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology and his international team. The tel is located about halfway between Ashkelon and Jerusalem, near Kiryat Gat along the southern coastal plain.

"Interestingly, the architectural design of this temple, with its two central pillars, is reminiscent of the architectural image that is described in the well-known Biblical story of Samson and the Philistines," Maeir said. He added that the discovery could indicate that the story of Samson reflects a type of temple that was in use in Philistia at the time.

He also said that his team had found impressive evidence of an earthquake in the 8th century BCE, reminiscent of the earthquake mentioned in the Book of Amos 1:1. The team uncovered walls that were moved from their place and collapsed like a deck of cards as a result of the powerful earthquake - assessed at a magnitude of 8 on the Richter scale.

In addition, Maeir said, the summer's excavations have uncovered further evidence of the destruction of the city by Hazael, King of Aram Damascus, around 830 BCE, as mentioned in Kings II 12:18, as well as evidence of the first Philistine settlement in Canaan (around 1200 BCE). ...

Archaeologists find theater box at Herod's palace in Judean desert
Israeli archaeologists have excavated a lavish, private theater box in a 400-seat facility at King Herod's winter palace in the Judean desert.
Archaeologists at Jerusalem's Hebrew University say the room provides further evidence of King Herod's famed taste for extravagance.
Herod was the Jewish proxy ruler of the Holy Land under Roman occupation from 37 to 4 B.C. He is known for his extensive building throughout the area.
Head archaeologist Ehud Netzer says Herod commissioned Roman artists to decorate the theater walls with elaborate paintings and plaster moldings around 15 B.C.
The upper portions feature paintings of windows overlooking a river and a seascape with a large sailboat.
The team first excavated the site in 2007.

Found: Ancient Egyptian City from Biblical Times
Egypt announces that an ancient city from 3,500 years ago - at the height of the Jewish People's enslavement there - has been discovered by radar.
Egypt says an ancient city from 3,500 years ago - at the height of the Jewish People's enslavement there - has been discovered by radar. The announcement was made by the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
BBC reports that Austrian archaeologists used radar imaging to find the underground outlines of the city, located in the now densely-populated Nile Delta area.
The city is believed to be Avaris, the summer capital of the Hyksos people, foreign occupiers who ruled Egypt for about a century, beginning around the mid-17th century BCE. It was during that time that the Children of Israel began their sojourn in Egypt, which continued later with a "new king who did not know Joseph" (Exodus 1:8), enslavement, and later, the miraculous Exodus.
The radar images show the outlines of streets and houses underneath what are now green farm fields and modern towns.
"The aim of the geophysical survey," said Austrian archaeological team head Irene Mueller, "was to identify the size of the ancient city... The mission also identified one of the Nile river tributaries that passed through the city, as well as two islands."

It means that at that time, the 10th century, in Jerusalem there was a regime capable of carrying out such construction."

Literal Honey Followed the Spread of the Gospel
Biblical Bees Imported from Turkey?
ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Hana Levi Julian - June 10, 2010
Ancient Biblical beehives have been discovered in the northern Israeli site of Tel Rehov, in the Jordan Valley.
Archaeologists found the 3,000-year-old remains of honeybees - including workers, drones, pupae and larvae - inside some 30 clay cylinders, according to a report published in the June 8 issue of the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
A high-resolution microscope was used to study the bodies of the small insects. The scientists said they found that their legs and wings appeared to indicate they more closely resemble the bees found in modern-day Turkey than those of present-day Israel.
The bee body remains appear to belong to a different subspecies altogether than those that exist today in the Jewish State, the research team said, adding that the find suggests that ancient bee keepers might have imported the species for its special characteristics, such as better honey production or a milder temper. ...

Temple Mount Repairs Leave Eyesores
Southern wall patch w/ hanging scaffolds
Southern wall patch w/ hanging scaffolds
BIBLICAL ARCHAEOLOGY REVIEW - By Hershel Shanks - BAR 36:05, Sep/Oct 2010
Two unsightly scaffolds hang from the walls of the Temple Mount, one on the southern wall and a second on the eastern wall. The question is whether they will be there forever. ...
The story of the hanging scaffolds goes back to the early years of the 21st century, when dangerous bulges appeared in the southern and eastern walls of the Temple Mount threatening to compromise the walls' integrity. The probable cause was the illegal excavation in the southeast section of the platform by the Muslim Waqf (which controls the surface of the Temple Mount) to create an impressive staircase down to the underground area of arched vaults known as Solomon's Stables, which is now being used as a mosque. (Another underground mosque is adjacent to Solomon's Stables.) The staircase area was excavated with a bulldozer, and the Waqf dumped hundreds of truckloads of this precious, archaeologically rich earth from the Temple Mount into the adjacent Kidron Valley. It is now being recovered and sifted in a project led by archaeologists Gaby Barkay and Zachi Zweig they are recovering thousands of artifacts from pottery to seals to coins and even parts of a column.
Whether the bulges in the southern and eastern walls of the Temple Mount were caused by the Waqf's excavation is, like almost everything in Jerusalem, hotly disputed. The Waqf flatly denies that its excavation caused the bulges. They suggest they were caused by the Israeli excavations decades earlier at the southern wall of the Temple Mount. ... What was not disputed, however, was that the situation was dangerous and must be corrected. If the walls collapsed, it might indeed undermine Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The next problem was who would do the necessary work. Israel would not allow the Waqf to do it, and the Waqf would not agree to allow Israel to do it. This standoff lasted for more than a year, while the walls continued to deteriorate. A compromise to which both parties eventually agreed was found in an offer by Jordan to undertake the task.
The Jordanians have now completed their work and have long gone home. But they have left a scaffold hanging at the top of the southern wall and another at the eastern wall. No one knows when they will be taken down-if ever.
Both archaeologists and tourists say that the Jordanians have done a terrible job. The Jordanians may have reinforced the walls, but the unsightly appearance of the new sections of wall, where the bulges had been, is entirely out of keeping with the ancient ashlars. No effort was made to blend in the new wall sections with the old walls. The new sections bear all the marks-color, smooth surface and size-of new work. Perhaps the hanging scaffolds are justified as conforming to the ugliness of the new sections of wall. They've been there now for several years. How much longer?

Waqf Bulldozers on Temple Mount May Be Destroying Jewish History
Jewish residents report that Waqf works at the Dome of the Rock have restarted 'under cover', likely destroying Jewish archaeological artifacts.
Arnon Segal, a resident on the Beit Hoshen neighborhood on the Mount of Olives, told Arutz-7 that there have been changes in the area recently. "We are seven families who have lived here for four and a half years, and we have the privilege to watch over the Temple Mount from a unique angle. Unfortunately, the sights we have seen in the past two weeks have caused us great frustration."
Segal said that Waqf attempts to conceal the work but that it is not hard to see what is happening these days on the Temple Mount. "The Waqf works are constant, we see tractors going to and fro carrying earth. The work is taking place near the Dome of the Rock, exactly in the place between where our Holy Temple's courtyard and the Altar used to stand. ...

Insanity!
PA to Win Contract to Refurbish Joseph's Tomb?
ARUTZ SHEVA (Israeli National News) - By Hillel Fendel - August 25, 2010
Land of Israel loyalists, who have been devotedly working for years on behalf of Joseph's Tomb, are up in arms at apparent plans to allow the Palestine Authority to refurbish the Arab-vandalized holy site.

It appears that the Civil Administration and the Rabbi of the Holy Sites joined together, for unknown reasons, to grant the PA the rights to revamp the holy Biblical site of Joseph's Tomb in Shechem (Nablus). ...

As recently as 30 years ago, Joseph's Tomb was located in a barren field outside the city of Shechem, but the city expanded, and the site now finds itself in the midst of a built-up urban area. By government decision, a yeshiva - Od Yosef Chai (Joseph Still Lives) - was established on the site, run by the Shomron Regional Council. Even after the Oslo Accords were signed in 1993, Israel was granted authority over the yeshiva, which remained active until the PA initiated the Oslo War in 2001 and overran the site.

In the coming months, Arabs vandalized and all but destroyed the holy site, breaking the dome, burning walls, smashing the giant gravestone, and filling the area with burnt tires, garbage and worse.

During the IDF's anti-terrorism Operation Defensive Shield of 2002, the IDF took over security control of Shechem, and began allowing periodic visits to the site. One took place as recently as last night, when 500 people participated.

In the past year and a half, the IDF and Shomron elements have been rebuilding Joseph's Tomb. The crowning achievement of their efforts is a decorative, iron construction to be placed atop the dome for protection. The entire site has been cleaned and painted, and following clear messages from the IDF, Arab vandals and graffiti writers have stayed away.

Suddenly and abruptly, it was learned this week that Civil Administration head Brig.-Gen. Yoav Mordechai had made a "grab," granting the PA the right to complete the refurbishing. "It is totally inconceivable that those who had a hand in its destruction should now be allowed to return as generous heroes coming to fix up the place," Shomron elements say. "Beyond the humiliation and warped nature of such a move, the PA will be able to trumpet themselves, and possibly even claim ownership and authority over the compound." ...

Computers to translate world's 'lost' languages after program deciphers ancient text

Ugaritic Language circa 1200 BC, western Syria
Ugaritic Language circa 1200 BC, western Syria
LONDON DAILY MAIL [Associated Newspapers/DMGT] - By Niall Firth - July 22, 2010

Scientists have used a computer program to decipher a written language that is more than three thousand years old.
The program automatically translated the ancient written language of Ugaritic within just a few hours.
Scientists hope the breakthrough could help them decipher the few ancient languages that they have been unable to translate so far.
Ugaritic was last used around 1200 B.C. in western Syria and consists of dots on clay tablets. It was first discovered in 1920 but was not deciphered until 1932.
Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology told the program that the language was related to another known language, in this case Hebrew.
The system is then able to make assumptions about the way different words are formed and whether they consist of a prefix and a suffix, for example.
Through repeated analysis, the program linked letters and words to map nearly all Ugaritic symbols to their Hebrew equivalents in a matter of hours.
The system looks for commonly used symbols in the two languages and gradually refines its mapping of the alphabet until it can go no further. ...

Five Of The World's Undeciphered Scripts
  • Etruscan - Repeated attempts to decipher this language have led little further than the numbers one to six.
  • The Rohonc Codex - Discovered in Hungary, it contains 10 times more symbols than any other known alphabet
  • Rongorongo - Discovered on Easter Island, scientists are not even sure if it is language
  • Linear A - An ancient Minoan script from Crete from around 1900-1800 BC
  • Vinca symbols - Believed to be the earliest 'proto-language' known to man, these symbols were found in Hungary in 1875. They date from around 4000 BC

Babel Effect?
Migraine attack gives English woman a Chinese accent
LONDON DAILY MAIL [Associated Newspapers/DMGT] - By Luke Salkeld - April 20, 2010
As anyone who suffers migraines knows, the pain can leave you speechless.
But Sarah Colwill has experienced a much more unusual vocal effect - she now speaks with a Chinese accent.
The disturbing impact of a chronic migraine has left her voice unrecognisable to family and friends.
Doctors say she has Foreign Accent Syndrome, a condition which damages the part of the brain that controls speech and word formation.
It is so rare, there are only 60 recorded cases in the world.

Mrs Colwill, 35, is baffled by the effects and fears she may never regain her normal pronunciation and tone of voice.
She said the change happened after she had such an extreme headache last month that she called for an ambulance.
Paramedics said her voice sounded strange and when she arrived at hospital she realised she was speaking like a Chinese woman.
The IT project manager, who was born in Germany but has lived in Plymouth since she was a child, is having speech therapy to try to revert to her Devon accent.

Mrs Colwill said she had no idea why she had picked up the Far Eastern speech pattern. 'I have never been to China. I just want my own voice back but I don't know if I ever will. I moved to Plymouth when I was 18 months old so I've always spoken like a local.
'But following one attack an ambulance crew said I sounded Chinese. I spoke to my step-daughter on the phone from hospital and she didn't recognise who I was. She said I sounded Chinese.
'Since then I have had my friends hanging up on me because they think I'm a hoax caller.
'I speak in a much higher tone now, my voice is all squeaky. To think I am stuck with this accent is getting me down.'

Mrs Colwill has suffered severe headaches for a decade but this year was diagnosed as having rare sporadic hemiplegic migraines.
The condition causes blood vessels in the brain to expand, resulting in stroke-like symptoms such as paralysis on one side of the body.
The effects normally last for around seven days but Mrs Colwill had several migraine attacks at once, culminating with an excruciating attack on March 20 which caused the brain damage.
She has been contacted by Professor John Coleman, a phonetics expert at Oxford University.
He said Foreign Accent Syndrome is thought to be caused by strokes and brain injuries but the condition is so rare there is limited research into why it happens.
