Four Million Tons of Light
Even after all this time the sun never says to the earth - 'you owe me.' Look what happens with a love like that. It lights the whole sky. - Hafiz
First of all, I would like to introduce you to an upcoming bright and shining star, the biggest star in our world. A Super Star if ever there was one. Drum roll please! Heeeere's ... THE SUN! (And the crowd roars!): "The Sun, each second, transforms four million tons of itself into light, giving itself over to become energy that we, with every meal, partake of. For four million years, humans have been feasting on the Sun's energy stored in the form of wheat or reindeer, as each day the Sun dies as Sun and is reborn as the vitality of Earth. Every child of ours needs to learn the simple truth: She is the energy of the Sun. And we adults should organize things so her face shines with the same radiant joy. Human generosity is possible only because at the center of the solar system a magnificent stellar generosity pours forth free energy day and night without stop and without complaint and without the slightest hesitation. This is the way of the universe. This is the way of life. And this is the way in which each of us joins this cosmological lineage when we accept the Sun's gift of energy and transform it into creative action that will enable the community to flourish. - Brian Swimme, The Hidden Heart of the Cosmos video And so the Summer Solstice, the Season of the Sun, the Season of Fire and Light, is upon us. It occurs to me that each year we astrologers, lightworkers and others of similar ilk are always saying something like this: "WOW this is a REALLY powerful Solstice! OMG! Holy Heck! Get ready! Incoming! Incoming!" I am definitely guilty of this many times over - gushing about how AMAZING each Solstice is (and not just the Solstice - in fact, I will be gushing soon in regard to the Mondo Total Solar Eclipse on July 22nd. Get ready for the Carol eclipse geyser :) But now I more fully see that ALL solstices are powerful. Throughout time, the Solstices have been power points - not just in 2009, 1987 or 1994. Twice each year, earth (and her leetle earthlings) move into a sacred window in space-time when the sun and earth communicate in their extremes and energy is exchanged - humanity, earth, sun, light, dance of light and dark, a Tipping Point in consciousness in the service of evolution. We dance this dance eternally, and it is always GOOD. (And God saw that it was GOOD) However at this particular moment in time known to humans as 2009 - we CAN say this: we really are in a time of great shift, and during this time the Solstices especially carry even more punch. They are charged beyond what was known previously. This will bear itself out now over time. I believe that is why we are all so excited about these events - we can feel something coming, we know it's big, and we are vibrating with expectation. Like kids on Christmas Eve. It is truly sweet to see us get so joyful and to lean into the human desire to celebrate evolution. (This is GREAT! This is the biggest EVER! This is AMAZING!) We New Age earthlings are childlike in our delight in the dance. Well, as far as expectation goes, we can expect that the powerpoints of the Solstices (even more so than the Equinoxes) will continue to ramp and ramp and ramp and RAMP up as we continue on this spinning evolutionary spiral toward ________ (fill in the blank and be careful what you ask for). You will find below more info on the meaning of the Solstices at The Turning of the Ages, and some thoughts on the particular character of the 2009 Summer Solstice, which occurs less than a day before the New Moon in Cancer. Sending up a Solar Flare of Love Carol

In the time it takes to leap aloft and touch down again, the globe has rotated under your feet. Christine Payne-Towler How do we dance when the earth is turning? How do we sleep when our beds are burning. Lyrics from the song "Beds Are Burning" by LoveShack Welcome. Come on in to the Bus Stop for our Sun. The Summer Solstice (in Northern Hemisphere, Winter Solstice in Southern Hemisphere) occurs at 1:46am EDT on Sunday June 21, 2009. The word "solstice" means "sun standing still" or Sun-Stop (exclamation point!) Why should this matter to you? Well, our sense of time "is driven by the sky, with its daily, monthly and yearly cycles. The summer and winter solstices are key reference points in our calendar, marking the yearly extremes of the Sun's changing height in the sky at noon ... Whether we realize it or not, our civilization is ordered around the happenings in the sky." (starrynight.com) Might as well inform ourselves since we are swimming in this anyway. Why does Summer Solstice Happen? The seasons of the year are caused by the 23.5º tilt of the earth's axis. Because the earth is rotating like a top or gyroscope, the North Pole points in a fixed direction continuously - towards a point in space near the North Star. But the earth is also revolving around the sun. During half of the year, the southern hemisphere is more exposed to the sun than is the northern hemisphere. During the rest of the year, the reverse is true. (religioustolerance.com) Unlike the Equinoxes (which are all about perfect balance) the Solstices are a Tipping Point - toward or away from The Light. The message is simple really: Stop! And look up. (Put your sunglasses on first and don't forget to use sunscreen). Blinded by the Light and Information of the staring Sun, you might want to absorb this photonic energy generated by a solar nuclear engine. Photons are tiny cells of counsel, capsules of intelligence from the Mind of God, as translated through the Sun. They are all around you, especially now.

Glimmering Silver Solstice
Dawn will turn to silver glass - a light on the water - All souls pass. - "Into the West," Lord of the Rings soundtrack At our current point in the long cycles of earthtime, the Summer Solstice aligns with THE GALACTIC EDGE. This is the edge of our known world. When we look toward the stars of Orion (and others in that area) we are looking out into deep space, also known as the Galactic Edge. This area of the heavens is also known to many cultures as the point where Souls enter the Milky Way Galaxy to incarnate on earth. It has been called THE SILVER GATE. An interesting aside RE Orion: I looked at a permutation (the 12th harmonic) of the New Moon in Cancer chart. (The New Moon occurs within about 12 hours of the Solstice - see below.) The planets are grouped together in a majestic way. There is the Aquarian cluster. Then there is a cluster in Aries. Then there is a cluster in Libra. The Mercury stands alone; but together these 3 clusters and Mercury form a "bow tie" or hourglass figure (using a wide 10 degree orb from Mercury to the Aries cluster). This is the shape of Orion! How 'bout that! Anyway, when we look toward the center of our Galaxy (the huge black hole that spins our world into existence) we see many stars. We call this The Milky Way. And when we look in the other direction, toward the EDGE of our Galaxy, we are looking out into deep space, the great unknown, there are very few stars here; it is a place where energies that are profoundly beyond the grasp of human egoic consciousness spring forth. The Summer Solstice, then, is that time when we can download foreign-land galactic information. Then we can spend the summer translating it so our fellow humans can understand it. This place, the Edge - when we align with it - is the source of new ideas for our mutating cultural paradigms. The Summer Solstice Sun pauses here to open a door to this expanded consciousness. From Barbara Hand Clow: "If you can take a moment at the Solstice, close your eyes and face the sun, and tune into the geometric patterns the sunlight creates on your closed eyelids as you tune into these opposing spiraling energies in our solar system. Your role as grateful creative interpreter for the Sun's communication to Earth will be activated. It's a new re-patterning of our collective "earth mind" that the Sun is setting up by your conscious participation. And for those who cannot be in a place to view the sun directly, momentarily close your eyelids as well and perhaps you'll receive the beamed transmission passing through from those that are facing the sun, giving birth to a new membrane of conscious alignment. http://www.handclow2012.com/astroflash.htm Note: the Solstice Doorway of Light will stand open for 3 days - the day before, the day of, and the day after - so you can do this meditation at any time during this gateway to the Sun.

I walk without flinching through the burning cathedral of the summer. My bank of wild grass is majestic and full of music. It is a fire that solitude presses against my lips. - Violette Leduc, Mad in Pursuit Speaking of walking the Galactic Razor's Edge, it's always good to remind ourselves that we are right now birthing a new 26,000 YEAR CYCLE. In other words, when I use the phrase "The Turning of the Ages" I am using the interpretation of this phrase as described by Shamanic Astrology. The Turning of the Ages in this sense is NOT just the movement from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius - a 2,500 year cycle. (This switchover IS taking place as we speak, it's a couple-hundred-year transition, but we are in the throes of it). No, The Turning of the Ages refers to a much LONGER cycle - a 26,000 year cycle, associated with the Precession of the Equinoxes. Daniel Giamario, founder of Shamanic Astrology writes: "Humanity is exactly at the end and beginning of an entire 26,000 year cycle (with 1997-1998 as the center point)." He states that the Precession of the Equinoxes is "the longest cycle that can be apprehended by the human senses in a single lifetime." Why am I bringing this up? Because the power of this shift from one 26,000 year cycle to another one (Ground Zero, also associated with 2011-2102) is most profoundly felt at the Solstices. Tune your consciousness into that at all Solstice celebrations you participate in for the rest of your life. |

Stillness within one individual can affect society beyond measure. - Bede Griffiths
Interestingly, the Sun is in a very introspective mood as this Solstice unfolds. Scientists are reporting that the Sun "is in the pits of a century-level solar minimum." One might think this would diminish the power of the Solstice. One might be wrong about that. Helios (the name for our Star, the Sun) is listening more than talking. Intense solar flares are absent right now, which means the Sun is not communicating as much as it normally does. Metaphysically, one might say that the Sun sends messages to earth (and all other planets in Sun's little harem, known as our solar system) through its fiery flares, which contain photonic information. I believe that the Sun talks to the Core of Earth via flares, whispering evolutionary codes which then are sent out into the grid of Humanity, lighting us up with new en-Light-enment. The Sun could in fact be seen as the most immediate and physical source of en-Light-enment for earthlings. Normally, "the Sun gets agitated and buffets our planet with huge 'storms' of high-speed plasma (ionized gas), punctuated by threatening flares of relativistic protons."Think of the Sun as a musical instrument," Frank Hill of the National Solar Observatory explains. "A piano has 88 keys, but the Sun has five million 'notes' or modes of oscillation." Hill and colleague Rachel Howe found that a pair of deep-seated currents migrate from the solar poles toward the equator during each cycle, and that the migration has been unusually sluggish of late." - Sky and Telescope The Quiet Sun speaks volumes. "Low solar activity increases the transparency of Earth's atmosphere to shortwave radio waves, allowing - for instance - signals from Jupiter to more easily and clearly reach the ground. At the same time, terrestrial radio interference subsides (another side-effect of solar minimum), so radio wave bursts (associated with Jupiter) are easier to identify." Spaceweather.com While the Sun is listening, maybe we can get a word in edgewise. The colicky baby is sleeping. The Quiet Sun holds a similar energy as when a planet stops (from our perspective on earth) and stands still to turn around and go retrograde. Since Solstice means "sun standing still" anyway, we can see a special signature this year. The Sun at this Summer Solstice is like a huge fiery eye in the sky, doubly stationary, doubly staring us down, allowing subtler energies to be seen, heard and felt. Energies that otherwise would be lost in the wake of the flares. What's also interesting is that currently "the sun cycles aren't making sense" according to our scientific models: "For the past couple of years, our Sun has been at the minimum of its 11-year activity cycle. Its face has been virtually spotless for months on end, and there've been no dire alerts of titanic solar storms about to slam into Earth. The problem is that this "quiet Sun" has continued far too long. Two years ago, a special task force predicted that the transition from the just-ended Cycle 23 to the upcoming Cycle 24 would come around March 2008. It didn't." - Sky and Telescope And so, the Sun is spotless, gleaming, beyond prediction, with a surface so immaculate you could eat off of it. And it is not behaving in the way we thought it would. The human mind doesn't understand it. I think this is a good time to pass through Sun's portal to other stars, other galaxies and other realms unheard of (Galactic Edge and Silver Gate) - to bring back information for Humanity. It's easier to jump through the Sun's hoop, its Ring of Fire, right now - the lack of flares will let us pass with less singes. Here are some thoughts on the Sun's effect on Humans. First a spiritual or evolutionary perspective: "Ascension is a process which (involves) the rapid upgrading of your physical vehicle. This involves "firing" all of your DNA sequences so that you can access the full potential encoded into your physical body at this time. This is a physically taxing process that involves a physical interaction with Cosmic Light, in the form of Solar sunlight from the Sun, Stellar Light from Sirius and other stellar sources, and "invisible light waves" from the Great Central Sun. These interact with the Pineal Gland and the Pituitary Gland, and in turn trigger the changes as more and more light in the form of energy pours into the physical vehicle." August 30, 2006 Celia Fenn starchildglobal.com Now a fascinating business perspective: Some business astrologers "follow the sunspot count to predict economic trends. Solar maximums usually signal the end of a growth in industrial production and we are at a very prolonged minimum. In other words the cycles are not making sense. I'm suggesting that there must be an underground economy about to appear in a fashion similar to the personal computer industry." astrologicalinvesting.blogspot.com The Silver Sun is Silently Shining. Wake up sleepy-head! Gotta get to work on the unearthing the underground economy!

Oh, the summer night/ Has a smile of light/ And she sits on a sapphire throne. Barry CornwallAs mentioned above, the 2009 Summer Solstice occurs within about 12 hours of the New Moon in Cancer. This adds a special flavor and another layer of energy to this particular Solstice. The New Moon occurs on Monday June 22, 2009 at 1-2 degrees of Cancer at 3:35pm EDT. "Many ancient cultures considered a particularly close New or Full Moon to the Solstice or Equinox to be extremely significant. It represents the union of solar and lunar mysteries, bringing these two uniquely independent cycles into step with one another. And here we have it happening at the Galactic Edge" (Cayelin Castell) Here is a shorthand on the zodiac sign of Cancer: "Mama Cancer takes us in her arms and rocks us like a baby. Whether you babble with delight or cry in despair, you cannot fall out of the nest of safety from which you were born. No matter how dangerous the world can seem, there are quiet places inside each of us where that stress does not exist. Spirit places breadcrumbs on the path to the place that connects each of us with the source of ourselves that is totally secure." www.stariq.com Cancerian issues have to do with our roots, our feelings, our security, our hearth and our home base. Cancerian energies hearken to the ancestors. We can ask ourselves: Where do I belong? Mama feeds. Mama gives. Mama raises up her 'babies' in the world - babies of all kinds (not just children) including projects, books, the advocacy for social causes, and creations of any kind. "In order to release Cancer's creativity, we must first cut the umbilical cord which binds us to family karma; leave the safe womb of the home and choose our own direction in life." Michelle Lessirard The Sun is a mother who provides all food, all energy for all Life on this planet. Cancerian issues are going to be big this summer, as the Mondo Total Solar Eclipse on July 22nd is in the sign of Cancer. Insecurity and the acting out of that insecurity will be the name of the game. Wars come (in part) from insecurity, you know what I mean? Our current job is to cut those ties to ancient, encrusted, karmic ancestral dissonant umbilical chords. We can't go forward really until we do. Remember the symbol for Aquarius 7: a child being born out of an egg. A human with no belly button. You can't put new wine into old wine skins.

Again and again some people in the crowd wake up.
They have no ground in the crowd. They emerge according to much broader laws
and carry strange customs with them and demand room for bold gestures.
The future speaks ruthlessly through them. - Rilke
