Greetings!

Welcome to the March Newsletter.

Winter is almost gone & Spring is here!

"As i look outside, i see many new buds in the trees and blades of grass showing the promise of Spring. When i am still and look inside, i feel the stirring of a new ambition. This is the beginning of a positive turning point for me. I envision myself as extremely successful and at peace with my life. I am grateful and happy."

I love the weather here and i truly feel that i am like a butterfly these days...just born! I can feel the excitement of the buds that will be in full bloom very soon and how the fairies must also be so excited to help the flowers be the love and beauty that they are.

In this issue I have shared my daily practice to be in touch with my body and keep my awareness within. Do join me in this journey of getting a fabulously healthy body in the next 2-3 months.

In the Loving Babies section, i have shared a wonderful article on how to prepare for the Birth of your Baby.

This month is the Spring Equinox on 20th March, the moment when day and night are equal in any place on our planet due to the Sun found exactly at the celestial equator in its appearing movement on the sky. It is the mysterious point on the birth signs circle meaning the beginning of a new cycle or in other words a new journey. The spring equinox is a short pause, a balance moment in which the yin and the yang, feminine and masculine, black and white merge and day and night are equal and we experience in our inner universe an ineffable state of imponderability thus being much closer to God. I will be holding a meditation on this day. The details are given in the newsletter.

Hope the Loving Affirmations are helping you heal. Please feel free to write to me if you need assistance in creating affirmations and Prayers for yourself and your loved ones.

I have a humble request. It would be very helpful if you could please add my email address shalini.kalra@lovingyourself.co.in to your address book so that the newsletter lands in your inbox only. This is very IMPORTANT.

Enjoy the sun rise everyday this month that is filled with peace, harmony and love.

Get up and Move.....Spring is here!

According to Ayurveda, March & April are the best months to shed the extra kilos that one puts on during the winter months.

Spring Season is here. The temperature outside is beginning to rise and the body also feels like it wants to loosen up and come out of its hibernation.

This is the best time to go for morning walks, yoga or gym!

Along with the exercise program that you may already be doing or may be beginning to start, if you be gentle on yourself and not torture your body anymore (I felt that exercise was a huge torture for me in winters: p), you can release your weight much faster and easier.

So here are a few suggestions that you may want to apply while you continue/start your exercise regime:

  1. In winters, we tend to gorge on gajjak and rewari, paranthas and butter, extra dollop of ghee on the sarson ka saag.......mouth watering.....isnt it??...STOP NOW! You may still want to have all these because it tastes good but trust me the body does not feel good anymore taking them in! yesterday I had a parantha in the morning for breakfast and I could feel my stomach repulsing and the added lethargy after that....i just could not take it! Listen to your Body. Eat nutritious food. Go to a nutritionist if you have to!
  2. Its not dark anymore at 6 am....yes the Sun rises early now! You might say now...but whyyyyyyyy!!!!! Even so...Yes it does....i saw it today...with my own eyes! And wasn't it beautiful.....the slight chill in the mornings is still there but spring too is knocking at our doors. The chirping of the birds, the blooming flowers and warmth of the sun....was awesome!  Get out of your quilts, put on your sweatshirt (its not so cold now outside) wear your shoes and start the morning walks. You will certainly not regret the extra effort that you may have to take the first few days.
  3. I am a big fan of Louise Hay and a Hypnotherapist too. So I cannot not include my mumbo jumbo (as my non believer friends say) into everything that I do! Alongwith the focus on the physical body, if you train your mind and invite your heart to join in too then it is easier. I have read and experienced in other areas of my life that if you visualize for 17 seconds, you save 20 hrs of work to achieve it, if you visualize for 34 seconds, you save 200 hrs of work to achieve it and if you visualize for 68 seconds, you save 2000 hrs of work to achieve what you are visualizing. JUST IMAGINE! The so many less hours you have to exercise if you start visualizing! No no no....I am not saying that you don't exercise and start only visualizing! This works ALONGWITH your exercise. Haha!

Here is what I have started doing these day...

  1. Morning walk
  2. Exercise - to start with 6-10 rounds of Surya Namaskar. You can gradually increase the rounds. If you are joining a gym, great!
  3. Pranayama - Kapalbhati, Anulom Vilom and abdominal breathing.

PLUS PLUS PLUS

Everyday, appreciate one part of my body. I am doing a nice and a simple affirmation for this, which is of course inspired by Louise Hay. Remember, you have nothing to lose if you include this in your practice!  And when I affirm, I visualize that body part as healthy, fit, glowing and smiling. And I also Thank that body part for serving me. How nice it feels na when someone thanks you for your efforts...your body also loves it. Try it!

For the thinking minds! Here is the explanation....The subconscious mind has no sense of humor and does not know false from true. It only accepts what we say and what we thing as the material from which it builds. By repeating the positive affirmations over and over, you will be planting new seeds in the fertile soil of your subconscious minds and they will become true for you.

If you can, stand in front of a mirror, look into your eyes and repeat each affirmation (new thought pattern) ten times. Do this twice a day. Also write the affirmations ten times sometimes during the day. Make it your mantra during your morning walk. Before you go to sleep, affirm atleast 21 times and add the visualization.

If doubts or fears or negative thoughts come up, just recognize them for what they are - old limiting beliefs that want to stay around. They have no power over you. Say to them gently, "Out! I no longer need you.". Then repeat your affirmations again.

Where you stop working is where your resistance is. Notice the part of your body that you don't want to appreciate. Give this part extra attention so that you may go beyond the limitation. Release the resistance. Do that affirmation for atleast a month or until positive changes take place.

In this way, within a short time, you will have a body you really admire and love. And your body will respond by giving you excellent health. Each part of your body will be perfectly working as a harmonious whole. You will even find lines disappearing, weight normalizing and posture straightening.

That which we constantly affirm becomes true for us.

I will be posting one affirmation everyday on the  Loving yourSelf Foundation Page on facebook.

Here is an example:

I Love My Body

My body is a glorious place to live. I rejoice that I have chosen this particular body because it is perfect for me in this lifetime. It is the perfect size and shape and color. It serves me so well. I marvel at the miracle that is my body. I choose the healing thoughts that create and maintain my healthy body and make me feel good. I love and appreciate my beautiful body!

Enjoy!

Three Blue Cheers to Archangel Michael  True experience of Smita Raghani, Designer

Sometimes even though the solutions have been made available to me by the divine intervention... a part of me crosses over and cribs along. Somehow the magic of Archangel Michael got me back and am I glad.

Every year in February  I have a trip that I dread to make, a very difficult client and group of people have to be sort of pleased... only because it is the largest project of the year for me and has been for the last 5 years... This year while I was packing my bags for the trip I decided to tuck in Archangel Michael cards along to give me the courage to do my best.  And as I landed at my destination I started witnessing 11, 111 1101... wherever I looked and I was a little spooked since all I was thinking is what a disaster this project has been/ will be etc..etc. I wrote to Shalini and she said the Master no is telling you to be aware of your thoughts as they are manifesting faster than you think... I was like Oookkk!! But honestly the sarcastic mind said to me "yeah right"....Well Archangel Micheal appeared with lots of blue colour and that was my cue... I picked my card... "GOD IS IN CHARGE" and I almost cried with gratitude...and that message not only put me back in my place but the amount of faith that came in was a memorable experience.

And guess what my client could not find a single fault in the execution and planning of the event... she almost could not help but compliment....

Loving Babies

HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy of birth as it is a technique for achieving a satisfying, relaxing, and stress-free method of birthing.

As a birthing method, HypnoBirthing® is as new as tomorrow and as old as ancient times. It is presented in a series of five, 2 1/2-hour classes. Through these classes, healthy, low-risk women, as well as women who need medical assistance because of  special circumstances, learn to dismiss fear-based stories, misinformation, and birthing myths; and they are helped to see birth as normal. They learn to trust that their bodies know how to bring their babies into the world in the calm and gentle way that Nature intended.

TEN HOLISTIC WAYS TO PREPARE FOR THE INTENSITY OF BIRTH

By Virginia Bobro

Certified Birthing From Within Childbirth Mentor, Doula, and Lactation Consultant

There are many ways to prepare for childbirth. We fill our brains with information, facts, and research about it. We hear others' experiences and opinions, which can often be overwhelming to a pregnant woman! We prepare our bodies for birth by getting regular prenatal care, eating well, and exercising. Sometimes neglected in our culture is tending to the psychological, emotional, and spiritual preparation of women (and men) as they approach this life-changing event. There are hundreds of books and websites about getting ready for birth, and many facts and opinions about how to deal with the pain. Keep in mind that "pain" is actually a small word. It doesn't truly convey the full spectrum of intensity that can unfold during labor and birth. In addition to the physical sensations of baby moving down through the pelvis and cervix, ligaments and tissues stretching, there is usually fatigue, back ache, thirst, and hunger. Normal emotional responses such as fear, excitement, uncertainty, discouragement, and love can be intense and overwhelming for both the birthing woman and her birth partners.

So, here is my list of ten important ways to holistically and mindfully prepare for the wide range of possibilities and demands of birth and parenting, both physical and emotional.

1. Dig Deep

Examine your beliefs, judgment, and assumptions about pain and coping with pain. What do you already know about labor pain? What do you think is okay and not okay to do in labor? How many ways are there to cope with the intensity of labor? What do you judge in yourself or others? What are y o u willing to do to get your baby out?

2. Get Real!

Gain a realistic view of what happens in birth. Avoid dramatic fear-based shows and idealized glorious births filmed in soft-focus with soothing music. Instead, head for a class or video that honestly and objectively discusses and shows the natural movements, sounds, and activities that are common at most births. Your childbirth teacher may even role-play a realistic contraction, complete with rocking, moaning, cursing, or crying.

3. Tend to Your Body

Excellent prenatal nutrition and regular exercise are crucial to preparing for the physical rigors of birth. Taking good care of your body means taking good care of your baby, and lessens the risk of complications during and after birth. Yoga, stretching, swimming, and some cardio work (such as a brisk daily walk) get you ready for the hard work of labor. Recovery and postpartum weight loss is typically easier when a mom is in good physical shape before birth.

4. Align Your Birth Team

Wherever you plan to birth (birth center, hospital or at home), ensure that your midwife or doctor is in alignment with your intention and beliefs about pain and pain management. Beginning and maintaining an open, honest dialog during prenatal visits is very important. By communicating who you are and explaining your values and priorities, you set up a relationship based on mutual respect and trust. This will help foster positive interactions during labor as well.

5. Invite Dad into the Picture

Whether your birth partner is your husband, your lover, your friend or your mother, it is important for you both to explore expectations about birth and postpartum. Take your partner to classes that exploring the partner's experience. He (or she) may have beliefs, hopes and concerns about the birth and parenting that are unlike yours. He needs to know how to fulfill two roles: help you and tend to his own needs for information and support.

6. Create a Circle of Support

Gather your emotional and practical resources as soon as possible. Know who in your community and family can give you what you need, whether it be a shoulder to cry on or a home-cooked meal. A doula (trained birth companion who specializes in emotional and practical support before, during and/or after birth) is considered by many families to be the most important tool to have during labor. Having your allies in place allows you to focus on your important work of growing, birthing and mothering your baby.

7. Prepare for the Pain

First, let's understand the distinction between pain and suffering. Pain and the physical sensations of birth are simply what is. Suffering occurs when we believe the negative internal story we tell ourselves about the pain. Increasing your awareness of the internal workings of your mind under stress can quickly build a pain-coping mindset. Learning mindfulness processes is the first step; taking it further--a commitment to daily practice--will strengthen your mental resolve. Knowing that almost every woman in labor will experience feelings of discouragement and negative self-talk can help you build determination as well as compassion for yourself when things don't go as planned. Many women find that spending just ten minutes a day connecting with their baby and visualizing themselves opening in labor helps to unwind their nervous system from the busy-ness and stress of everyday life.

8. Look Your Fears in the Eye

"Worry is the work of pregnancy," writes Pam England in her book, Birthing From Within. What are you really hoping to avoid in birth or postpartum? Be willing to explore the possibility of unwished-for events. If your expectations and plans for birth are flexible and arising from self-awareness, then when birth takes another path, you can source from love rather than fear. You can remain present to yourself and do what needs to be done, even when it's not what you envisioned or hoped for.

If you are functioning in a state of fear, panic, obsession, or avoidance about particular aspects of pregnancy, birth, and parenting, then you have some inner exploration to do! Find a friend, childbirth educator, or doula who is not afraid of fear and will allow you space to share and move through your fears. There are many more ways of addressing fears, including hypnosis, meditation, art, ritual, visualization, and counseling.

9. Tend to Your Heart and Spirit

Journaling, dance, art, music, spiritual practice, and being in nature are all ways of connecting to our hearts and intuition. Balance structured activities (such as classes) with the freedom of spontaneous expression. When you feel alive and mindful now, then later, as birth unfolds, your internal knowing will help guide you during intense moments.

10. Dive into Labor!

In labor, there are lots of things you and your support team can do to help you cope with the intensity of birth: loving touch and massage, moving and changing positions, keeping hydrated and nourished, keeping your focus and determination, words of support, guided meditation and visualization, love and encouragement, listening and moving to music, and much more. Know that moments of doubt and fear will arise, and be willing to surrender to the power of birth-that which cannot be controlled or completely planned for. Be willing to get down-and- dirty, to give it all you've got, to do your best even when things get hard or scary.

One last thing to keep in mind: your birth matters.

When you and the people around you believe that preparing your mind, body and soul for birth is important, then you can truly dive deeply and whole-heartedly into the experience. No matter what unexpected twists and turns may unfold in your journey, it is YOUR journey. Then you can come through one of the most intense experiences of your life full of self-love and new knowing.
