Citizen Soldier Nominations Extended - The 2011 Citizen Soldier Award will be awarded at the 2011 Annual Meeting of The West Virginia State Bar at Embassy Suites in Charleston, W.Va., on April 15, 2011.  To obtain information regarding the awards process click hereNominations have been extended through March 21, 2011.

 

 

LEGAL AID - You are invited to join the Campaign for Legal Aid in a celebration of funds raised and lives changed!  On Wednesday, March 16 beginning at 12:00 Noon, at the Charleston Town Center Marriott Legal Aid will celebrate its amazing donors and usher in a new fundraising era under the leadership of Jim Bordas (Bordas & Bordas), Gretchen Callas (Jackson Kelly) and Tom Flaherty (Flaherty, Sensabaugh & Bonasso)!  West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Robin Davis will wrap up the event with a CLE.  The cost to attend the event, including lunch and CLE, is $10.  You won't want to miss this!  Please RSVP to bcarte@lawv.net.  Please direct questions to jjordan@lawv.net.  We look forward to having lunch with you!

MERCER COUNTY - At the invitation of the Mercer County Bar and the Judges of the 9th Judicial Circuit, and if the weather will cooperate this time, State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey will be visiting Mercer County on March 22, 2011The Mercer County Bar meeting will commence at 11:30 at the Sugar Shak in Princeton.  If you are interested in joining the Bar for lunch, please contact Randall Roahrig at rwrlawoffice@citlink.net or 304-425-2116.  After lunch, photos will be taken at the Courthouse to share on the Bar Blast and on The State Bar's website.    

 

RANDOLPH AND TUCKER COUNTIES - State Bar President Tish Chafin and Executive Director Anita Casey are pleased to announce they will be visiting  at your Courthouses on MARCH 25, 2011.  They hope you will be able to join them for a short, conversational meeting.  The schedule is:

JUDICIAL APPOINTMENT TO THE COURT OF CLAIMS - The West Virginia State Bar is seeking candidates for the position of Judge of the Court of Claims. If interested, provide a resume to the State Bar on or before March 30, 2011.  The Speaker and the President will make the appointment from a list of three candidates recommended by the Board of Governors of the State Bar. A minimum of ten (10) years' experience as a licensed attorney is required. This position involves hearing and deciding claims filed against state agencies and the Crime Victims Fund. The main offices of the Court are at the State Capitol with travel to other parts of the state for hearings.  Some administrative law, mediation, or other judicial experience would be beneficial. CLERK OF COURT, U.S. BANKRUPTCY COURT, NORTHERN DISTRICT OF WEST VIRGINIA, WHEELING, WV - The U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of WV has begun receiving applications for the position of Clerk of Court.

  

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or eligible to work in the United States.  Please visit the Court's website at 

www.wvnb.uscourts.gov   for the complete vacancy announcement listing the relevant standards and qualifications for the position, as well as a full description of the application procedure and other pertinent employment information.

LAW FIRM ADVERTSING OPPORTUNITY - The West Virginia State Bar will hold its 2011 Annual Meeting at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Charleston, West Virginia on April 15 and 16, 2011.  We invite you to exhibit  by reserving exhibit space for the Annual Meeting.  The fee is $600 per exhibit.  The exhibit space will include one covered table and two chairs.  This fee admits two persons per exhibit to attend the Friday luncheon and the Friday evening Annual Banquet.  You and your firm will be introduced at the Annual Banquet.  Exhibit space will be located immediately outside the meeting room.  Hours will be from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday.  All transfer breaks will be in the exhibit area.  If you are interested in exhibiting, please CLICK HERE and complete the application.  Completed applications must be received by April 1, 2011, so arrangements can be made with the Embassy Suites.
