Could Your Website Benefit From a Restricted Access Area?

Today the internet is the primary source of information for most of us.  We're more likely to search the web for information than to pick up the yellow pages. In response, businesses are increasingly on the lookout for ways to add interactive services to their websites. The goal is to engage users and help them find what they need quickly and easily.

While most businesses and organizations strive to reach a broad audience, there are times when you may need to connect with a smaller and more specific group of users or visitors.  For example, a non-profit organization may want to make confidential information available only to its board members.  Or, a photographer may want to protect a gallery page, giving access to the client to make their photo album selections. And, for some it's a business such as the case of private membership sites that sell information, products or reports only to those who have subscribed and received password access.

The easiest way to accomplish confidential information sharing is to establish a password-protected site.  Typically, a password-protected site resides on a sub-domain of your main site (such as members.website.com).  Members are then provided with a logon (which can be specific to each member or shared by a group - the choice is yours) which enables them to access the information you want to share with them.

A consideration when implementing a restricted access or members only area is security. Some plug-ins or code may fail to ensure data privacy, as the web page URL, if discovered, makes the page accessible. Test to make sure that when access attempts are made to your restricted area, no matter how someone found it, that person is prompted to enter a password.

A restricted access area can be a website tool that adds value for your site visitors, customers, or members.

If your organization is considering a password protected site, Infinity can help. The engage CMS hosted application can provide businesses with its members only password-protected access page feature. Need a custom solution for your information that doesn't need to be accessible to the world? Our technology consultants can custom code password protected access applications for your website to meet the unique needs of your organization.
