BCA Community Theater Casting Call

Barefoot in the Park auditions, Monday, August 15, 7:30pm

Calling all theater lovers! BCA is bringing community theater to town this fall with Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park, to be directed by Bedford's Frank Fornaro.

A romantic comedy by Neil Simon, Barefoot in the Park was nominated for three Tony awards in 1964. It is his longest-running hit, and the tenth-longest-running non-musical play in Broadway history

The play will need stage hands, set builders, make up experts, props and costumes personnel, tech support and others to collaborate in producing the show.   If you are interested in helping backstage, click here to let BCA know.

Auditions for adult actors will take place at 7:30 pm on Monday, August 15, in the BCA Space on the ground floor at Old Town Hall,  16 South Road.   All are welcome!

Acting for Everyone!

Acting classes in the BCA Space in September & October

Vicki Righettini, professional actress, singer and teacher/director/coach of theatrical performance will offer Acting for Everyone, a basic acting class for adults, in the BCA Space on 6 Tuesday evenings (September 20 through October 25).

Early registration for the course is $120 until September 1.

What do you need to know about the classes?

  • They will be relaxed, with a goal of having fun along with learning something new while building confidence and learning from each other.
  • We'll explore the actor's art of freeing the body, voice, and imagination in order to create memorable characters and bring text to life.
  • You'll survey a variety of acting techniques and skills including movement, breath, voice and projection, diction, character development, memorization, improvisation, and overcoming performance anxiety.
  • You'll want to come to class with a spirit of adventure and dress for freedom of movement.
Whether there's a hidden thespian in your soul or you'd just like to be more comfortable speaking in a group, you will want to investigate Vicki's class.

Cameras for CapeTown

Jason Musselman and Becca Laders  passed through Bedford in May, raising funds for their voyage to Cape Town, South Africa to teach photography at a hospital/orphanage for children with AIDS.

There's a small image representing Bedford Center for the Arts in the canvases  that Musselman and Laders will leave in Cape Town, but more importantly, they will also leave behind point and shoot cameras sent along by members of BCA's Photography Group.  Thanks to  Bob Bass, Gail Carrigan, Joe Gallagher, Jean Hammond, Mike Milicia, Kevin Turner, Julie Turner and Adam Woodbury who generously donated cameras.

The BCA Photo Group is looking forward to hearing about the adventure during their fall meetings.

BCA Members ~ Out & About

Nature photographer Mike Milicia is now affiliated with Charles Glatzer's Shoot the Light Instructional Photographic Workshops. Mike's first offering as a Shoot The Light instructor will be a 2-day classroom seminar, the Fundamentals of Digital Photography at the Bedford-Burlington Hampton Inn on the weekend of  August 13/14. (Recent BCA photography events have offered a beta test of sorts for part of Mike's class, and we can assure you that Shoot the Light is fortunate to have have him aboard!)

While Jean and Ralph Hammond "swept" Bedford's PMC Kids Ride in June, they will be among the actual riders in the Pan Mass Challenge to benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, leaving Wellesley on August 6. They will ride carrying with prayer flags inscribed with the names of more than 1,000 individuals dealing with cancer. Sponsorships are always welcomed. Click here to sponsor Jean, or here to sponsor Ralph

Looking for a great local night out? Sean Dresel and Common Thread will perform at Concord's Main Streets Market & Cafe from 8:30 to 11:30 pm on Saturday, July 9 and on Friday, August 26.
