David Torrey Gallery Reception & Annual Meeting Update In the BCA Space at Old Town Hall on Wednesday, June 2, 6 to 8 pm
If you missed the chance to see the exhibit of David Torrey's paintings during BCA's Annual Meeting, we're holding a gallery reception featuring his "Travel Watercolors 1995-2009," on Wednesday, June 2 from 6 until 8 pm.
Torrey's architecture/preservation firm. Menders, Torrey & Spencer, Inc.,
is responsible for the award-winning restoration and adaptive re-use design of Old Town Hall and he spoke of that work as well as his involvement in community arts during the Annual Meeting. A video of his comments will be available during the reception.
After his presentation, Torrey left the room and returned as the Revels' One-Man Band, a character he originated. Hilarity ensued as kazoo-tooting meeting-goers followed Torrey in a parade around the Great Room and down the front stairs to the steps of Old Town Hall on South Road.
Notecards and mounted enlargements
of many of these paintings along with additional original framed watercolors of
New England hills and shores will be available during the reception, and a portion
of their sale proceeds will benefit BCA.
Click here to RSVP if you'd like to join us.

Photo Class for Point & Shoot Enthusiasts
In the BCA Space, six Tuesday evenings at 7 pm, beginning
on June 15 Participants' exhibit and reception on Tuesday, August 3, at 7 pm
During BCA's spring photo series it
became clear that learning to take better point and shoot pictures was
important to many people in the group. Holly
Bloomfield, a BCA member and professional photographer, has designed a
six-session class specifically geared toward point-and-shoot camera
enthusiasts, and BCA will present it this summer.
With your
camera and its instruction manual by your side, Holly will help you to
learn digital vocabulary, the functions in your camera and how to
take better photos. No previous photography knowledge is needed.
There
will be a photography assignment each week to practice of the
concepts that Holly will cover in class. The course will finish with a class
exhibit and reception on
August 3. About the
course: We'll meet in the BCA Space at Bedford's Old Town Hall on
six Tuesday evenings beginning on June 15 from 7 to 8 pm, with an optional review and
discussion of your photo assignments until 8:30;
there will be no class on July 6.
The fee for the series is $60, with an additional charge to prepare
for the show; all proceeds will benefit the Bedford Center for the
Arts.
The class is limited to 15
participants. About
our instructor: Holly Bloomfield is a portrait and
event photographer. She owns and operates Portraits by Holly in Bedford.
She
has studied with portrait, event and wedding photographers as well as photo
journalists. She has passed both the technical and artistic
requirements
for certification by the Professional Photographers of America and is an
active
member of the Professional Photographers of Massachusetts. Please click here for more information, or to register.

Play Reading in the BCA Space "Blithe Spirit" on June 30 at 7:30 pm
Lois Pulliam returns to lead a reading of Noel Coward's popular 1941 comedy, Blithe Spirit.
Savor Coward's wit and wisdom as the ghost of Charles Condomine's difficult and departed first wife Elvira torments him and Ruth, his living wife who can neither hear nor see the ghost.
With no specific parts assigned, the reading will go around the room, with each participant reading the next speech in sequence, thus assuring that everyone has an equal chance at the good parts as well as the not-so-wonderful ones -- and occasionally matching unlikely voices and characters!

Illegal Art Journal Project
Six BCA artists are taking part in 60 Days, a two-month journaling project devised by Illegal Art, an artists' collective in Manhattan that seeks to create
interactive public art that inspires self-reflection, thought and human
connection.
Journals were distributed on May 1 and will be collected at the end of June. They are being used to collect and display photographs of the daily changes at Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge as well as more personal transformations. Some artists are working alone, others are sharing their journal with friends so that the final product will be a collective effort.
At the end of the project, Illegal Art plans to display the journals in New York and the BCA artists plan to attend the opening reception when it takes place.
