NEWS, UPDATES, BOOKS & POETRY FROM
LINDA EVE DIAMOND & LISTENERS UNITE!

                                                                                               OCTOBER 2010
POETRY, LISTENING ASSESSMENTS for
the
CLASSROOM, and an ILA WEBINAR

Greetings!

Whether you're working toward business or personal goals, staring a new venture or a new school semester, autumn is an exciting time of transition and transformation. I wish you all an upward-moving fall!

The first poem below, "The King's Pawn," is about a different kind of fall (one that might be prevented by a little inner listening). :)  The second poem, "Just Listen," speaks to what it means to really listen to someone else. Also featured are listening assessments published in the International Listening Association's Listening Education journal with special tips for classroom use and a webinar designed to help participants listen for success in business.

"Just Listen" is a  well-known piece about listening, though it has gone by some different names and is sometimes listed as anonymous and sometimes attributed to Ray Houghton, MD. "Just Listen" clarifies the boundaries between our urges to be supportive in other ways and the simple, quiet, power of just listening.
The International Listening Association is offering a new webinar: "Listening for Profit in Challenging Times," presented by Dr. Lyman K. (Manny) Steil and Dr. Rick Bommelje. Visit the latest Have You Heard? blog for more information!
Listening assessments from Rule #1: Stop Talking were published in the International Listening Association's Listening Education journal, along with tips and methods for classroom use. Also in this edition, you'll find papers, articles, and more teaching tools from Alan Ehrlich, Barbara Pennington, and Janis Davis. The journal is available below as a pdf and can also be downloaded from the homepages of both ListenersUnite.com and Listen.org.
