The Lessons Appointed for Use on The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost
September 5, 2010
THE COLLECT
Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our
hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own
strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the
Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

By Marqua Brunette, Coastline Communicator and Music Director, Holy Nativity, Panama City
August 8, 2010
Holy Nativity in Panama City celebrated the start of the new school
year with their first annual 'Blessing of the Backpacks' on August 8th.
Students of all ages were encouraged to bring their backpacks to
church. Even the acolytes and Fr. Steve Bates wore their backpacks as
they processed down the aisle, causing more than a few smiles. Because
Holy Nativity is fortunate to be associated with Holy Nativity Episcopal
School, invitations were sent out to the school families to join in
this special service. Full story and photos

TAIZE' Prayer Service returns to St. Paul's Beginning on Thursday, Sept. 2 and continuing mostly on the first and third Thursdays of the month, a group of us will gather to pray for all of you and this world we live in. We meet in the narthex at 7 p.m. and, under candlelight, we "stop the world" for an hour and just quiet down as we share prayers, spoken and silent, gentle music from Taize and scripture. It's simple, calming and the world certainly needs all the prayers we can offer. Come and be calm with us!

Diocese of Alabama: Bishop search process gets underway
|
By ENS staff, August 25, 2010
[Episcopal News Service]
The Episcopal Diocese of Alabamahas begun its search for a new diocesan bishop with Oct. 8 set as the
deadline for nominations and applications, according to a press release.
The 11th bishop of Alabama will succeed the Rt. Rev. Henry N.
Parsley, Jr., who was elected bishop coadjutor in 1996 and became
diocesan bishop in 1999.
Parsley announced on Feb. 12 his plans to retire and called for the
election of his successor in early summer of 2011 with the new diocesan
bishop taking office in fall 2011. He said he would then take the
sabbatical time remaining to him and would retire Dec. 31, 2011.
"The eleventh bishop of Alabama will be a visionary who can lead,
teach and inspire both lay persons and clergy to grow the church, to
find creative ways to meet financial challenges, and to strengthen ties
between parishes and the diocese," according to the diocesan profile,
available here.
Guidelines for submitting nominations are included in the profile.
The Standing Committee of the diocese has asked a diverse, 16-member
committee to deliver a slate of nominees by April 25, 2011, the release
said.
The 31,000-member diocese consists of 91 congregations and a number of institutions in the northern two thirds of the state.
