We're Open this Summer
...give it a try and enjoy a discount!

sunrise at sunglow

Since we expect to have our pool, hot tub and fitness rooms all operating by the end of June (see below), we've decided to stay open for the summer. At 5,500 feet, our temperatures are well below those of Tucson and Phoenix, with typical daytime highs in the 80s. At night we've yet to experience temps higher than 60 degrees--great sleeping and stargazing weather.

To encourage you to give it a try, we're offering a special deal for Sunglow newsletter readers--30% off the first night of a two-night (or longer) stay in one of our gorgeous casitas during July and August if you book by June 30. Included in your stay is a hearty breakfast and gourmet dinner each day in the Sunglow Cafe (discount does not apply to alcoholic beverages).

Summer Activities
...for grown ups and kids of all ages

Biking at Sunglow

There's tons of stuff to do all summer long at Sunglow Ranch. Although our nearby attractions are a real plus, there may be no reason to leave the ranch at all. Consider what's available (and it's all complimentary):

Mountain Biking - we have adult and child-sized mountain bikes to ride on the single-track throughout the ranch property--in the oak woods, across seasonal creeks and up into the foothills. There's also a wonderfull ten-mile ride up a shaded gravel road into the National Forest. You'll see our oak forests turn into pine and then aspen on the way up the road.

Pool and Spa - consider sitting by the pool, enjoying the beverage of your choice, and taking in the scenic mountain ambiance. Yoga and massage may be part of your day, too, topped off by a relaxing soak in the hot tub.

Hiking - we have a well-marked 4-mile trail that will take you through several different types of scenery--from deep woods comprised of oak, juniper and mequite, to open grassland with rich yellow and gold hues. Branch off into the adjacent national forest for hundreds of miles of additional terrain.

Birding - the variety of birds at the ranch is astounding. Our feeders bring many and a short walk across the pond yields even more. From hummingbirds to our resident Great Blue Heron, you won't be disappointed.

Stargazing - the blanket of stars, from horizon to horizon, is remarkable. On moonless nights the broad stripe of the milky way is bright enough to create shadows on the ground. Ask our resident astronomer for help if you're curious about what you see.

Canoeing and Fishing - Take our canoe into the pond and cast your line for catch and release fun. You can also cast from shore. Fishing rods, life vests, and canoe are all available for your use.

Winemaker's Dinner
with Pillsbury Wine Company

Wine Tour and Tasting

Among our favorite Arizona wines are those from the Pillsbury Wine Company. Sam Pillsbury will be here the evening of June 12 for a Winemaker's Dinner. He'll have his Roan Red and other Sunglow favorites with him. If you haven't met Sam or heard what he has to say about his wine, this is an opportunity that you won't soon forget.  Call the ranch for reservations or more information: 520-824-3334 or email us.

Pool and Spa Update

nearly completed pool 460px

We're close to completion. The pool measures 40 x 18 and includes an adjacent in-ground circulating hot tub. Both are solar-heated by panels hidden on the roof of the fitness room. The latter includes treadmill, elliptical trainer, free weights and a separate quiet room for massage therapy.  Sitting at the pool, looking at the pond and mountains beyond will become very much part of the Sunglow experience come the end of June.

Goings-0n Around the Ranch...

Our geese family continues to thrive. The goslings are growing up so quickly, they're almost as big as their parents. And our laying hens are producing upwards of ten eggs a day. Since they're outdoors, scratching for food, the egg yolks are a rich yellow/orange color and are altogether delicious.
