L'Ecole No. 41 Merlot '07
Columbia Valley, Washington
Contains 11% Cabernet Franc with the balance Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 18 months in 30% new oak. Medium purple-colored, it offers up a nose of spice box, violets, cassis, cedar, and black cherry. Medium-bodied, supple, and easy-going.
El Castro de Valtuille Mencia Joven '07, Bierzo,Spain
100% Mencia. Reveals an enticing perfume of baking spices, eucalyptus/pine notes, black cherry, and black raspberry. This leads to a smooth-textured, sweet, forward wine with no hard edges.
Drink this lengthy effort over the next several years.
