PREDICADOR 2007   RIOJA, SPAIN

regularly $39.95     On Sale  $29.95   Save $10

Predicador (Tempranillo 84%, Garnacha 11%, Viura 3% and Graciano 2%) is clearly an expertly crafted wine - very well balanced, with great structure, delicious flavours and a long finish. This is delicious now, but a wine of this quality is certainly capable of improving for five years or so if cellared carefully.

There are few winemakers in Spain more famous then the legendary Benjamin Romeo. From his early days at Artadi where he spearheaded the idea of new-wave Rioja, aged in French, rather then American oak and bottled far earlier with minimum intervention through the winemaking process. From Artadi he set up on his own, producing Contador, the most prized Rioja in all of Spain. Now he produces a range of superlative wines from the new Predicador cuvee, through La Vina des Andres, Cuevo de Contador and the top wine itself. All get whopping scores from Parker, all are impeccable wines.

ELECTRONIC WINE THERMOMETER

Maximize the flavours of your wine by drinking at the correct temperature for that wine. Did you know that Red wine should be enjoyed at room temperature - not a room in a centrally heated house but a room in a castle! The Perfect Temperature Electronic Wine Thermometer takes away all the guesswork!

4 simple pre-set settings to assure that your reds, rose wines, whites, and sparkling wines are served at the perfect temperature. Easy to use, turn the unit on and place the probe inside the bottle. If you want to use one of the recommended settings select your choice and place the wine in the fridge or in the room as required. The LCD then displays the actual wine temperature at all times as well as the target temperature. When the two temperatures meet the red light is replaced by a green light and the wine is ready to serve. Easy to use, and a fun gift for the wine lover who has everything.

MASSENA '04

the howling dog

barossa valley, australia

Early experimental batches of Petite Sirah (some as small as 120kg's) produced wines which were rich and deep, but had pronounced tannins which caused tasters to release a slight howl as it crossed the palate. The name Petite Sirah acknowledges that the variety produces Shiraz like berries that are smaller, giving a much darker colour and rich, deep tannins.

100% Petit Sirah (Durif). Black as night and laden with an abundance of natural structure and personality. 100% Petite Sirah, open fermented and left on skins for up to 8 weeks prior to an elevage in new and used French barriques and puncheons. Built more along the lines of a marathon runner than a sprinter, it is already approachable but will greatly reward those who choose to keep a few bottles well into the future.

Remember, this is Durif, not Syrah or Cabernet Sauvignon,
but this dog came to hunt!

winter BREWS rock:
From Foreign Shores
It may still not be Christmas time, but it's sure looking like it in CU; we're on track to expect snow almost every other day and our temperatures have been plenty cold - enough to complain about. As our Winter Wonderland continues strong after the holidays, we thought it was the perfect time to enjoy some Strong Dark Ales.

HEARTY WINTER BREWS....SAVE 10%....THESE ALES AND MORE CHRISTMAS SELECTIONS ARE NOW ON SALE.

OLFABRIKKEN JULE ALE Denmark

An unconventional Christmas brew that departs from the tradition of Winter warmers being sweet and malty. This Christmas brew is abundantly hopped with the four American C's: Cascade, Chinook, Columbus and Centennial. Cinnamon and coriander provides the Christmas spirit and adds to the merriness.
Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, crystal malt, wheat malt, soft brown sugar and Demerare cane sugar.Olfabrikken Jule Ale is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers.

KERSTMUTSKE
CHRISTMAS NIGHTCAP

Belgium

It poured a deep, dark ruby brown, with a creamy off-white head, which stuck around as long as I had beer in my glass. Its aroma, to me, was of apples, dark cherries and honey-slathered biscuits; very sweet. I could barely contain my excitement in trying it.Christmas Nightcap has a smooth, medium mouthfeel; a brew you know you have in
your mouth. Its carbonation was hundreds of tiny little bubbles, effervescent but not overpowering to take away from its heavier feel. This incredible beer tasted much like raisins with a hint of apples or a dark cider and sweet molasses. Before swallowing, Christmas Nightcap overall, is a sweet brew, but in the finish, there was an enjoyable apple tartness in the aftertaste.

BRASSERIE

DE LA SENNE

X-MAS ZINNEBIR PALE

Belgium

The name Zinnebir refers to a term from Brussels tradition, - 'zinneke' - slang for the wild mixed-breed dogs that used to inhabit the poor quarters of the city along the Zinne. It means 'little bastards,' and has been applied more recently to those young men living in the poor quarters of Brussels who have flemish-speaking fathers and french-speaking mothers (or vice versa). De La Senne brewer Bernard LeBoucq identifies strongly with the 'little bastards'; he is a French-speaking Bruxellois, brewing in the heart of the Flemish Payottenland.

X-mas Zinnebir is a top fermentation beer, re-fermented in the bottle with an alcohol content of 6.50%. Brown color, cloudy. Sweet, spicy aroma with notes of roasted malt.  This holiday brew is rich and malty with a kick of spice and a warming feel in the mouth.
