And frame your mind to mirth and merriment,

which bars a thousand harms and lengthens life.

~ William Shakespeare, Taming of the Shrew

Baby, it's colder outside! We know that it doesn't matter
how much we grumble about the snow and a long winter.
Yet January is quickly fading away with Valentine's less than
a month in the offing. School's back in session, we've got  basketball to jeer and cheer, and it's a good time of year to
distract ourselves with our New Year's resolutions - if we're
still on the path. Sun Singer is a great place to scheme and
dream, take the chill off and satisfy yourself with one of our
Winter Warmers, a refreshing glass of wine or maybe a nice
Port and dessert as we hatch plans for warmer days to come.
Join us soon and often because Spring can't be far way!

Atteca Armas 2007 Old Vine

Calatayud, Spain

It was aged for 18 months in new French oak.

2 oz.  $6.75    5 oz.  $13.50   bottle  $52

92 pts.  Opaque purple. Heady aromas of black and blue fruits,

incense, smoky minerals and cured beef. Deep, sweet

and expansive, offering vivid blackberry and blueberry flavors

alongwith candied violet and suggestions of cinnamon, allspice

and clove. The spiciness repeats strongly on the finish, which

is strikingly fresh, energetic and long. 100 % Garnacha.

FEE BROTHERS

Opened in 1863, Fee Brothers of Rochester, New York, is in its fourth generation of manufacturing top quality cocktail mixes, bitters, flavoring syrups and other beverage ingredients. Some of the products they manufacture are very hard to find anywhere else. Brighten your winter and expand your bartending horizons with this collection of unique and hard-to-find cocktail mixers. We are sure you will find their old family recipes second to none.

Old Fashion Bitters

This bottle of Fee Brothers Old Fashioned Aromatic Bitters is a classic cocktail flavoring for any bar. Made with Angostura bark, along with other spices and citrus oils. Used in a Manhattan, Old Fashioned, Planter's Punch and many other cocktail favorites.

Mint Bitters

Use Fee Brothers Mint Bitters to add the fresh taste of peppermint to your cocktails when you don't have mint leaves handy. Use small amounts to give a subtle lift to mixed drinks such as punches and cocktails. Perfect in a Mint Julep or Mojito. Also, great to flavor cake frostings, sauces, dessert toppings, milk shakes and more.

Lemon Bitters
A Fee Brothers original, Lemon Bitters lend a snappy citrus taste with a hint of lemongrass to your drinks.

Falernum

Add Falernum to your favorite cocktails for new levels of flavor! This Caribbean favorite has flavors of lime, almond and ginger. Once a lost ingredient, it's making a comeback in the cocktail community. This Tiki staple is used in many rum-based drinks, but is also great with gin, vodka and bourbon. Makes a killer Rum Punch!

SUPER TUSCAN

It may be the wine world's coolest title for any category of wine, but the words Super Tuscan seldom show up on the wine label.  Super Tuscan is not an official designation, but rather a grand name bestowed by the media on a certain type of Italian wine. What happened was this: Italy, like many other European countries, has strict rules governing how its wines are made. But in the 1970's some Tuscan winemakers were breaking those rules, often blending their revered sangiovese with - shockingly - such French varieties as cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and merlot, and sometimes even making wines without a drop of the officially sanctioned sangiovese. The power and pizzazz of the wines moved the wine press to christen this style Super Tuscan.

Get in style and put a Super Tuscan on your

'to-do' list for early in the new year.  Wine life

may never be the same!

winter rocks:
Sand Creek Special RSV
Over the last year-and-a-half, Sand Creek has introduced its Select Series of beers sold in four packs. Brewery co-owner Jim Wiesender explains: "These are special beers that we allow our brewmaster Todd Krueger to a little go crazy with, make something a little different, and show off." Their latest creation is Wisconsin Scottish Ale.

WISCONSIN SCOTTISH ALE

Scottish style beers tend to emphasize malt qualities and give less attention to hoppiness. In part, these styles reflect the use of brown malts and a brewing process that features longer boiling periods. Scottish ales commonly fall into four catetories: Light, Heavy, Export and the Scotch ale. Historically these distinctions carried labels of the shilling currency which reflected the price charged per barrel of beer in the 19th century. For example, 60 shillings was the rate for Light Scottish ales, 70 shillings for Heavy, 80 shillings for Export and above 90 shilling for Scotch ale and Wee Heavy. Sand Creek brewmaster Krueger says he doesn't really like to fit his Wisconsin Scottish Ale into one of these categories, but its maltiness, color and alcohol contest are close to the traditional Scottish ale style.

Krueger makes Wisconsin Scottish Ale with nine different types of malt. He also uses a combination of French and English yeast that he says creates a clove-like background to the beer that covers up the high alcohol content, which ends up at nearly 8.5% ABV. Additionally, some of the hops used to make Wisconsin Scottish Ale are grown locally near Barneveld.

'Tis the season for beer, what's your brew tonight?
