Thanksgiving Times
Thanksgiving is upon us and we hope you have Sun Singer in your plans. Our Retail Store will be open 10:00 a.m - 11:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, November 23rd through the 25th. The Wine Bar Cafe will be open regular hours Thanksgiving Eve (10:30 a.m. - 11 p.m.). Bring friends and family to sample from our new Fall/Winter Menu and then gather all those last minute wines, beers and spirits to bring cheer to your Thanksgiving Day. While we'll be closed on Thanksgiving proper, Friday will find us bright eyed and sassy from our own festivities and ready to start the quick slide with you toward new beginnings in 2011!

Thanksgiving Pairing Advice

From appetizers, to white and dark turkey meat, mashed potatoes, yams, herb-filled stuffing, and cranberry relish, pickled this and peppered that, all the way to pumpkin or pecan pie - is there truly a single wine that can take you seamlessly from start to finish? The art of pairing wines with food is largely a matter of personal preference, but some tried and true Thanksgiving wines are Pinot Noir and Syrah/Shiraz and Zinfandel for red wine lovers and Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Riesling, Gewurztraminer for those who prefer white wines.

Typically wines that offer a light-medium body and present themselves with lower tannin levels and less complexity are better suited to the vast array of flavors they are meant to complement. However, if pressed to pick a single varietal that could handle the traditional Thanksgiving spread from start to finish, it would hands-down be a Riesling.

WINTER BREWS
Say It Ain't So

While most of us look forward to the holidays, I haven't talked with many folks who are looking forward to the winter weather to come. That's why we've want to say it ain't so as all the new seasonal brews flood the store making Winter inevitable! Before Winter howls, you'll want to get your hands on some of these seasonal selections to give you hope for the Spring to come.

CAPITAL WINTER SKAL
An amber hued beer loaded with a great depth of specialty malt character and smooth hop flavors, guaranteed to make one welcome the onslaught of the cold. ABV 5.5%

MAGIC HAT 'HOWL' WINTER
A deeply dark, deeply satisfying beer with a light-to-medium body that enters the bones and spreads its heat into the lost sanctums of the soul with a clamorous roar of roasted malts and a clean, dry finish that whispers softly of hops.

BELL'S CHRISTMAS ALE
In contrast to many other seasonals, Christmas Ale doesn't contain any spices: all of the dry, toasted notes & subtle toffee flavors come from the 100% Michigan-grown barley, custom malted by Briess Malting, while a blend of hops from Michigan & the Pacific Northwest lend earthy, herbal aromas. At 5.5% ABV, it stands as a smooth, highly drinkable beer intended to complement holiday menus.

AVERY OLD JUBILATION
This winter strong ale has a gorgeous mahogany hue, a hint of hazelnuts, and a finish reminiscent of mocha and toffee. No spices, just a perfect blend of five specialty malts. Cellarable for 2 years. ABV 8.0%

NEW HOLLAND CABIN FEVER
Robust in character yet smooth in delivery, Cabin Fever is a roasty brown ale and a hearty, comforting companion for long, mind-bending winters. Its rye, roast and raisin notes play off a subtle caramel sweetness and culminate in a dry finish. Excellent with roasts, stews, caramelized onions and snowfall. ABV 6.0%

Get All Tied Up in this Big, Sexy, Bomb!

A cult classic, Orin Swift's The Prisoner is a wine that's snapped up

every vintage by hoards of admirers.

This vintage has a deep ruby hue that is nearly opaque. The aromas elevate from the glass starting with black currant, dark blackberry, cherry, and cassis rounded out by subtle hints of seasoned French and American oak. The entry of the wine is massive and leads into a lush middle framed by bright acid and supple tannins. The finish is long, lingering and filled with soft velvety tannins lasting for nearly thirty seconds.

CHAMPAIGN COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY:

We're in the last week of our benefit and a new litter has arrived. Adopt a LAB today and support a great, local cause!

Throughout November, Sun Singer will donate $2 to the Champaign County Humane Society for every bottle of LAB adopted.

Meet LAB, full name LAB Vinho Regional Lisboa 2008 by Casa Santos Lima. This wine is a blend of Castelao (35%), Tinta Roriz (25%), Syrah (25%) and Touriga Nacional (15%) grapes.

Very attractive bright ruby color. Aromas of ripe red fruits combine with concentrated dark cherry and blackcurrant flavors, as well as a fresh and agreeable acidity and some fine oak notes. It ends with firm but smooth tannins and a fruity finish.

Made in a modern, extracted style, with long maceration and 4 months ageing in new barriques (Portuguese oak), yet this wine hasn't lost its Portuguese roots.

Perhaps most importantly, it offers very good value retailing for $10!

THE VELVET COLLECTION:

MARILYN MERLOT!

A chance meeting in Hollywood between photographer Tom Kelley and an aspiring but unknown actress led to a two-hour photo session on May 27, 1949 that made history and established Marilyn Monroe as the ultimate sex symbol of the 20th century.

The ten stunningly beautiful photographs from the historic session became known as the "Red Velvet" series, each one a portrait of Marilyn Monroe posing on a red velvet drape.

Some of these images are now immortalized in The Marilyn Velvet Collection - we are now offering the 2004 Marilyn Velvet Collection, Pose 8 in the 1.5L format and gift box.
