High Spirits: Compass Box Whisky Company Edinburgh, Scotland
Asyla Malt & Grain Blended Scotch Whisky
The ultimate "everyday," "before dinner" or "Sunday afternoon" Scotch whisky.
The secret to making Asyla is the quality of the casks. We use only whiskiesaged in first-fill American oak casks because these yield whiskies with more vanilla character, more richness and more sweetness than refill casks. There is no other blended Scotch whisky on the market that uses whiskies of this quality. Also, there are few blended that use 50% malt whisky as they do (all unpeated malt whiskies). The result is a carefullycrafted, elegant Scotch whisky that makes the perfect aperitif. |
BEST BEERS:LET'S PARTY with ABITA!
Are you a sampler pack fan? Then you'll want to snap up one of these party packs.
The
Abita Party Pack includes two each of their Amber, Turbodog, Purple
Haze, Jockamo India Pale Ale, Restoration Pale and a pair of seasonal
offerings. Often a sampler will only have three of four beers from which
to choose. This one offers six different Abita beers to try.
Founded in 1986, Abita Brewing Company sets in the piney woods 30 miles
north of New Orleans. The brewery produced 1,500 barrels of beer in its
first year of operation, according to its Web site, www.abita.com.
Now,
a regional brewing powerhouse, Abita brews and distributes more than
90,000 barrels of beer annually. (A barrel of beer is 31 gallons.)
Privately
owned and operated by local shareholders, the brewer has become an
institution in Louisiana. Abita Beer -- the site details -- uses only
British and North American malted barley, German and American yeast
strains, Pacific Northwest hops and the pure artesian water of Abita
Springs. Abita contains no preservatives, additives or stabilizers. It's
good stuff.

Corpse Reviver
Consumed as hairs of the dog
- drinks to refresh you after a heavy night. The reviver was popular
during the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. CR2 is a Corpse Reviver in a bottle, a drink you simply open, shake and serve. The spirit is based on the Corpse Reviver # 2, which is equal parts gin,
Cointreau, Lillet Blanc and lemon juice, with a dash of absinthe. The result is a cocktail you'll want to drink the
traditional way: Up, in a cocktail glass, with a cocktail cherry.
Read all about CR2 on North Shore's web site. Very limited quantities! |
