A man who was fond of wine was offered some grapes at dessert after dinner.  "Much obliged," said he, pushing the plate aside,
"I am not accustomed to take my wine in pills."
~Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin

Like the sophisticated gentleman bandit of the late 1800's who criss-crossed Northern California robbing stagecoaches, Black Bart serves as the Krupp Brothers' label for its wild-yet-sophisticated Rhone-varietal wines.

KRUPP BROTHERS 'Black Bart' Marsanne 2006,
Stagecoach Vineyard, Napa Valley, California
97% Marsanne and 3% Viognier.  Aged 11 months in French oak. Lifted nose, displaying wonderful complexity-honey suckle, jasmine tea, almond kernels, fennel, lemon and crushed stones. The palate is full and balanced, flavors of citrus, peach, apricots and a steely minerality.

We've Got Class!:
Wine 101:
An Introduction

Sunday, July 18th
3:00 - 5:00 pm
$20/person

Join us at Sun Singer as we
de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 101 will introduce you to the everyday pleasures of wine.

We will begin this interactive class by discussing the various approaches to wine.  We'll cover some of the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine. We'll also talk about where wine comes from, how it is made and the characteristics of the 7 basic wine grape varieties as well as tasting the wines.

Class is scheduled to last 2 hours.  However, the Question & Answer time at the end of the prepared class has been known to last an additional hour as Brian likes to answer all of the participants' questions.

After this introduction you'll feel more comfortable with the 'language' of wine, ordering wine in a restaurant and how to explain what you want from a wine when choosing one in the store. With any luck you'll be on the road to a lifetime of enjoyment in a world of wine!

Sign up today by calling Sun Singer at 351-1115.
BEST BEERS:
Rochefort:
the essential
trappist

The Trappist-Rochefort beers are top-fermented brown ales. They are brewed and racked within the walls of the Abbey of St-Remy in Rochefort. The modest size of the brewery means that the Trappist monks and their fellow workers can perfectly control the production process. The craft beer aspect is particularly appreciated by beer lovers.

Rochefort 8
The Trappist-Rochefort 8 starts with a density of 20.80° Plato which produces a 9.2% vol. alcohol. Vigorous in character, it is particularly well suited to be drunk amongst a group of friends!

Rochefort 10
The Trappist-Rochefort 10 starts with a density of 24.50° Plato which produces a 11.3% vol. alcohol. A marvellous beer! But to be drunk in moderation! The Trappist-Rochefort beers are refermented in the bottle and their full flavour can best be enjoyed when they are served in their own specific glassware at a temperature between 12 and 14 degrees.
Edradour:
Scotland's Smallest Distillery

Edradour is produced in Scotland's smallest distillery - the last original 'farm' distillery in Perthshirea and nestled within a pocket glen in the hills above Pitlochry in the Southern Highlands and is hand made today as it was over 150 years ago by just three men who are devoted to the time-honoured methods of whisky making. Indeed, equipment used at the distillery has remained unchanged since the day the distillery opened and is only just capable of producing commercial quantities. Only 12 casks of whisky are produced a week, making Edradour single malt a rare pleasure for a fortunate few.

Edradour 10 year old
is a unique, hand-crafted single Highland malt whisky, often enjoyed in recognition of those small, significant moments that make up the ebb and flow
of life.

If you manage to find it, you will be one of the few people lucky enough to experience its charm - golden in the glass, smooth and creamy with
a nutty, honeyed finish.

Edradour 11 year old,
1997 Straight from the Cask, Chateauneuf du Pape Finish

Distilled on 11/19/97, and bottled 8/19/09. For the the first nine years, this malt was matured in a plain hogshead cask. For the final 27 months, the malt was finished in a fresh Chateau Neuf du Pape wine cask. Cask number 07/325/3 yielded 297 bottles
at 57.0% abv.

YALUMBA '08
'Y Series' Viognier
South Australia

$9.99
Reg. $11.99

Bright straw with green tinges, the 2008 Y Series Viognier has aromas that typify this exotic variety, namely jasmine, white peach and honeysuckle. These aromas are mirrored in the palate that displays richness and texture from wild fermentation and lees aging. With a clean, persistent finish,
complemented by some exotic spices, this wine will reward if served with five spice chicken.

At the Deli:
Pillar's
Old World
Salamis

from Canada

In 1957, Wilhelm Huber opened a small butcher shop in Waterloo, Ontario. Piller's Black Kassel is still family owned and operated five generations later, using Wilhelm's recipes & techniques.

Gypsy Salami:
Made from a fine blend of pork. The addition of cayenne gives this salami a semi-hot spicy flavor.

Mustard Seed Salami:
Made from a lean mixture of pure pork with finely chopped mustard seed and a hint of  garlic.

Old Forest Salami: This salami is a lean blend of ground pork that - like all Pillar's salamis - is gently smoked over natural beech and maple hardwood for 7 days and air dried for a minimum of 28 days.
