WINE FUN-DAMENTALS! Join us at Sun Singer as we de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 101 will introduce you to the everyday pleasures of wine. We
will begin this interactive class by discussing the various approaches
to wine. We'll cover some of the basic wine terminology and flavor
components of wine. We'll also talk about where wine comes from, how it
is made and the characteristics of the 7 basic wine grape varieties as
well as tasting the wines.
Class
is scheduled to last 2 hours. However, the Question & Answer time
at the end of the prepared class has been known to last an additional
hour as Brian likes to answer all of the participants' questions.
After
this introduction you'll feel more comfortable with the 'language' of

Special Wine Feature
CAPIAUX Pinot Noir 'Freestone Hill' 2006 Russian River Valley, California Capiaux Cellars specializes in small lots of vineyard designated Pinot Noir from California. The winemaking style is a blend of classic and contemporary, utilizing cutting edge fermentation equipment paired with
natural hands on winemaking and an emphasis on balance All the wines are naturally fermented and unfined and unfiltered to preserve their innate flavors and aromas. Minimal amounts of new oak are used, usually 33%.
Good bright dark red. Highly aromatic nose combines raspberry, wet stone, Asian spices and smoked meat; this, too, reminded me of a Chambolle, but on the Morey side of the appellation. Big, rich, dense and sweet, with a pliant, silky, seamless texture and a lovely light touch. Finishes with firm but fine tannins and lingering spice. 93 points ~Stephen Tanzer
By-the-Glass
Malvira
'Treuve' Sauvignon-Chardonnay '06, Langhe, Italy
A blend of 40% Sauvignon, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Arneis, Treuve delights the
nose with the pleasing scent of newly cut grass, grapefruit peel and apricot.
Full-bodied with a long finish.
A to Z Pinot Grigio '08, Oregon
Aromas of ripe citrus fruits, kiwi, lychee, wet
stones, honeysuckle and nectarines. The concentrated attack is pure and bright
with lush fruit and mineral notes and is framed by ripe acidity.
Pulenta 'La Flor' Malbec '08, Mendoza, Argentina
Robust cherry, eucalyptus and mint flavor combined with toast and vanilla are evident in the nose. Black currant and fleshy fruit,
bright black cherry and hints of mulling spices on the palate.
Fortress Petite Syrah '07, Red Hills, Lake County, California
Classic balance and elegance with smooth tannins framing the
variety's wildly exotic flavors of blackberries, blueberries, bacon, tobacco, grilled mushrooms, tamari, anise and lots of black pepper.

Review by Robert Parker Wine Advocate # 186 (Dec 2009) Rating: 96 Drink 2011 - 2031
"The 2007 Affinity exhibits more graphite, but in essence is similarly elegant, with supple tannins (although more velvety than in the 2006), very young, primary black and blue fruit notes, and superb concentration, texture, and length. This is an exceptionally promising wine that is still hiding behind a rather primary display of fruit. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 15 or possibly 20 years. This is the best group of wines I have ever tasted from Robert Craig Winery. Not only is there not a single disappointment in this portfolio, but these are all noteworthy wines, with thrilling levels of quality. Moreover, they are moderately priced for Napa Valley as well as ageworthy. I think these are the finest wines that I have ever tasted from Robert Craig Cellars."
