Sun Singer News
Wine makes every meal an occasion, every table more elegant, every day more civilized. - Andre Simon
TAKE A BREAK! While we all don't have the occasion to take a break in synch with the university, it's nice to have a short reprive from the hustle and bustle. Life will be a bit quieter this upcoming week, giving us time to spruce up for an early Easter and with any luck and a prayer for good weather we may be able to open the patio earlier than usual this year. With the sunny days we've had lately, we know how everyone is itching to be outdoors.
Sun Singer will be maintaining normal hours throughout the university Spring Break. We're sure to be here for your favorite spirits, beer and wine plus the Cafe is a great place to gather with friends anytime you need a break!

Wine 101: A Brief Introduction
Tuesday, April 6th 7:00 - 9:00pm Our Price: $20/person
WINE FUN-DAMENTALS! Join us at Sun Singer as we de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 101 will introduce you to the everyday pleasures of wine. We
will begin this interactive class by discussing the various approaches
to wine. We'll cover some of the basic wine terminology and flavor
components of wine. We'll also talk about where wine comes from, how it
is made and the characteristics of the 7 basic wine grape varieties as
well as tasting the wines.
Class
is scheduled to last 2 hours. However, the Question & Answer time
at the end of the prepared class has been known to last an additional
hour as Brian likes to answer all of the participants' questions.
After
this introduction you'll feel more comfortable with the 'language' of
wine, ordering wine in a restaurant and how to explain what you want

By-the-Glass
Malvira
'Treuve' Sauvignon-Chardonnay '06, Langhe, Italy
A blend of 40% Sauvignon, 40% Chardonnay and 20% Arneis, Treuve delights the
nose with the pleasing scent of newly cut grass, grapefruit peel and apricot.
Full-bodied with a long finish.
Pomelo
Sauvignon Blanc '08, California
Wonderfully
fragrant, floral and grapefruit nose with fig and peach aromas. Very full,
round mouth with clean grapefruit flavors.
A to Z Pinot Grigio '08, Oregon
Aromas of ripe citrus fruits, kiwi, lychee, wet
stones, honeysuckle and nectarines. The concentrated attack is pure and bright
with lush fruit and mineral notes and is framed by ripe acidity.
Qupé Marsanne '07, Santa Ynez Valley, California
Flinty,
minerally and with just a hint of green pear and orange rind. The wine has
refreshing acidity and impeccable balance.
Castillo
de Almansa Riserva '04, Almansa, Spain
60%
Monastrell and 40% Cenibel. A rich, velvety softness, concentrated crushed
blackcurrant and wild berry fruit, cassis, black pepper fill the palate, balancing well with
the tannins and leaving an enduring, delicious and lengthy
aftertaste.
Castello di Luzzano Bonarda Carlino '08,Oltrepo Pavese, Italy
Deep, inky-colored wine, bursting with violets, jammy blueberries
and spices. The firm, pure tannins will help the wine stand up to heartier fare. This unoaked red is big, dark, rich and fantastic.
Grayson 'Lot6' Merlot '08, California
Surprisingly complex. A dark ruby/purple color is followed by
notes of white chocolate, black cherries, black currants, and
hints of spice and oak. Velvety tannins, medium body,
and lots of fruit depth in this seductive style.

Buy yours today for $49.99 a bottle.
Review by Robert Parker Wine Advocate # 186 (Dec 2009) Rating: 96 Drink 2011 - 2031
"The 2007 Affinity exhibits more graphite, but in essence is similarly elegant, with supple tannins (although more velvety than in the 2006), very young, primary black and blue fruit notes, and superb concentration, texture, and length. This is an exceptionally promising wine that is still hiding behind a rather primary display of fruit. Give it 2-3 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 15 or possibly 20 years. This is the best group of wines I have ever tasted from Robert Craig Winery. Not only is there not a single disappointment in this portfolio, but these are all noteworthy wines, with thrilling levels of quality. Moreover, they are moderately priced for Napa Valley as well as ageworthy. I think these are the finest wines that I have ever tasted from Robert Craig Cellars."

Salute to Spring
Bell's Brewing Consecrator Doppelbock
A traditional dopplebock fermented with a Bohemian lager yeast. Reddish
brown in color, with a mild hop profile, Consecrator is a well
balanced, full bodied beer with hints of caramel and molasses in its
smooth, malty finish.
Bocks are relatively
strong German lagers. Doppelbocks, as the name might suggest, are
typically even stronger and contain enough malty goodness that they've
been considered a meal in a glass for centuries. Read more about Doppelbocks here.
