Love - a wildly misunderstood although highly desirable malfunction
of the heart which weakens the brain, causes eyes to sparkle,
cheeks to glow, blood pressure to rise and the lips to pucker.

Dulce de Leche by el Semillero, Argentina
The Argentinians do it right.  One taste of this creamy dulce de leche will send your taste buds reeling. Valentine Wine!

Terra Valentine Cabernet 2006
Spring Mountain, Napa Valley, California
2 ounce $6.75   5 ounce $13.25   bottle $51.
Terra Valentine takes winemaking to a new level-about 2,100 feet above the Napa Valley. Terra Valentine is blessed with two vineyards, Wurtele and Yverdon, both vineyards have been farmed using sustainable practices since 2001. While the mountain sites present challenges; including accessibility, diversity of soils, ripening, and hand labor, they reward the effort in wine filled with intense flavor and color.

The nose opens with bright fruit, currants, spice, bittersweet chocolate, cedar and lead. Jubilant fruit and bright cola berry follows with notes of caramel, dried fig and sweet cherry tannins.

Shaky Bridge Gewürztraminer '08, Central Otago, New Zealand
Lifted aromatics of lavender, brown spices, ginger and apple, perfectly balanced in an off dry style. A classically styled spiced Gewurztraminer profile, offset by Central Otago minerality and
an exceptional mouth feel.

Santi Apostoli Pinot Grigio '08, Veneto, Italy
Delightfully clean, fruity wine with a nice citrus flavor and a delicate,
full taste.

Sea Biscuit Chardonnay '07, Mendocino, California
Rich complex fruit flavors abound, with an underpinning
of pleasant oak aromas, all supported by bright acidity.

Ciconia Tinto '08, Portugal
A blend of 60% Aragones 30% Syrah and 10% Touriga National,
a dark inky color, a meaty and earthy nose, the palate starts with
quite a bite of blue fruit with a little aniseed, and then some
cinnamon plus good acidity to back it up.

Meeker '12th Rack' Zinfandel '06, Sonoma, California
A bright nose of brambly blackberries with cocoa dust, this Zin
shows no mercy as it runs the palate with tart blackberries,
creamy coffee-vanilla richness, and a solid tannin structure.

Hess 'Allomi' Cabernet Sauvignon '07, Napa Valley, California
Ripe flavors of cherries, plum and currant mingle with hints of
nutmeg and graphite, with a slight toasty oak component.
Silky, youthful tannins are coating on a rich, textured mid palate, continuing on a lingering finish.

Wine 102: Evaluation & Terminology

Tuesday, February 23rd
7:00 - 9:00pm
Our Price: $20/person

Do you read tasting notes and wonder how they can be so specific?  Do you want to be able to put into words what you taste? If so, this seminar is for you! Join us at Sun Singer as we continue to de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 102 will show you the tasting process and help you develop a style of wine talk.

We'll expand on the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine taught in Wine 101.  We will discuss how wines are rated and explain several systems.  There will be handouts on a wine rating system and a listing of wine words.  The final part of the seminar will focus on developing your own personal wine language.

We strongly suggest that you have previously attended  Sun Singer's Wine 101.  Wine 102 will assume  a basic knowledge  of  wine varietals, their characteristics and basic tasting technique.

Learn more about our seminars here.

Sign up today by calling Sun Singer at 351-1115.
Cook Italian Tonight:
Lucini Sauces

Lucini Italia was determined to produce the very best sauces. To start they undertook a culinary journey through the Italian countryside in search of quintessential regional recipes. What they discovered was an uncompromising reliance on high-quality yet simple fresh ingredients. Based on this same philosophy, Lucini® sauces are carefully handcrafted in small batches using the best extra virgin olive oil, fresh herbs and plum tomatoes. Lucini Italia does not add sugar, synthetic cheese, dehydrated herbs or milk, or anything artificial.

Rustic Tomato Basil
This regional Tuscan recipe begins with fresh plum tomatoes and fresh summer basil. Traditionally served with capellini pasta and enjoyed with a light-bodied red such as a young Pinot Noir wine.

Hearty Artichoke Tomato
This regional Puglian recipe from Italy's southern coast begins with fresh plum tomatoes and fresh artichokes. Traditionally served with farfalle or conchiglie rigate pasta and enjoyed with a young Sangiovese wine.

Rustic Tomato Vodka
Northern Italian recipe balancing the richness of two types of cheese and cream with fresh tomato, and a touch of vodka. Toss with farfalle pasta and pair with a Nebbiolo wine.

Enjoy these sauces on top of Rustichella d'Abruzzo traditional handmade pastas available at Sun Singer. Mangia!

From the Heart

Il Coure 2004
Cabernet Sauvignon

This is Cabernet Sauvignon blended for depth and structure and a touch of Merlot for finesse and charm. This wine is rich yet soft with layers of black cherry, currant and chocolate. Cooperage was in small French and American oak barrels.

"... delicious, sweet, oaky, full-bodied, satiny-smooth wine with a long, soft, lush finish. It is hard to find a high-class, concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon of this quality for under $20 a bottle."
- Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Stranahan's
Colorado Whiskey

Awarded 'Artisan Whiskey of the Year' by the Malt Advocate just in time for Valentine's giving.

Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey is not a Bourbon or a Scotch, it is a Straight Rocky Mountain Whiskey made from 100% malted barley and aged in heavily charred, 100% new American white oak barrels for a minimun of 2 years.

A batch consists of 12 hand selected barrels married together and cut to exactly 94 proof (47%) using Eldorado Springs bottled water and is non chill filtered.

You can take heart that Stranahan's was the first and is the only micro distillery in Colorado and the Rockies dedicated to making a true handcrafted, premium whiskey.
