Wine 101: An Introduction
Sunday, November 8th 4:00 - 6:30pm Our Price: $20/person
Join us at Sun Singer as we
de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 101 will introduce you to the everyday pleasures of wine. We will begin this interactive class by discussing the various approaches to wine. We'll cover some of the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine. We'll also talk about where wine comes from, how it is made and the characteristics of the 7 basic wine grape varieties as well as tasting the wines.
Class is scheduled to last 2 hours. However, the Question & Answer time at the end of the prepared class has been known to last an additional hour as Brian likes to answer all of the participants' questions.
After this introduction you'll feel more comfortable with the 'language' of wine, ordering wine in a restaurant and how to explain what you want from a wine when choosing one in the store. With any luck you'll be on the road to a lifetime of enjoyment in a world of wine!
Sign up today by calling Sun Singer at 351-1115.

New This Week @ The Wine Bar New wines November 3rd at the Sun Singer Wine Bar.
Always changing, always something new to try!
Ghiome Fussot Arneis '08, Langhe, Italy Arneis is a white Italian wine grape variety originating from Piedmont, Italy. It is most commonly found in the the hills of the Roero, northwest of Alba, where it is part of the white Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC) wines of Roero. It can also be used to produce DOC wines in Langhe.[1] Arneis (literally: little rascal, in Piedmontese) is so called because it is regarded as a somewhat difficult variety to grow. It is a crisp and floral varietal, and has been grown for centuries in the region. The white wines made from the Arneis grape tend to be dry and full body with notes of pears and apricots. Maryhill Winemaker's Red '07, Columbia Valley, Washington This vintage of our "Bordeaux Blend with a twist" introduces itself dressed in beautiful claret color. It carries on its conversation with notes of cherries infused with caramel and hints of boysenberry. With its silky voice and smooth finish, this congenial companion will comfortably blend in with any occasion. Like its past vintages this award winning wine continues to be a crowd pleaser. Bodegas Atalaya '07, Almansa, Spain This is the first release of Atalaya a winery jointly owned by the Gil family of Jumilla and importer Jorge Ordonez.. The 2007 Atalaya is a blend of Monastrell, Garnacha Tintorera, and other red grapes. The wine was aged for eight months in French and American oak. This purple-colored wine has an expressive bouquet of violets, spice box, leather, game, blueberry, and black cherry. On the palate it comes off as borderline kinky and definitely sexy with lots of easy-going flavor, superb depth, complexity, and a 45-second finish. Although it can be enjoyed now, it will evolve for another 2-3 years. Pennywise Petit Sirah '05, Napa Valley, California This blockbuster inky purple Petite Sirah is rich with blueberry, boysenberry and cassis fruit, raw cinnamon and a hint of molasses. The fleshy mid palate is juicy and generous with ripe plum and a refined tobacco, sweet cherry essence, which finishes with sweet toffee and vanilla notes. With its rich tannin level and dry oak profile this wine is approachable now, but will age well through the years. This wine is well suited as a stand-alone wine, but it also works well with wild rice and cranberry stuffed pork roast or grilled tuna served alongside white beans and arugula. Great for dessert too, the fruit structure lends itself well to mixed berry cobbler or flourless chocolate cake.
