Wine 101: An Introduction
Sunday, October 11th
4:00 - 6:30pm
Our Price: $20/person

Join us at Sun Singer as we
de-mystify the world of wine. Wine 101 will introduce you to the everyday pleasures of wine.

We will begin this interactive class by discussing the various approaches to wine.  We'll cover some of the basic wine terminology and flavor components of wine. We'll also talk about where wine comes from, how it is made and the characteristics of the 7 basic wine grape varieties as well as tasting the wines.

Class is scheduled to last 2 hours.  However, the Question & Answer time at the end of the prepared class has been known to last an additional hour as Brian likes to answer all of the participants' questions.

After this introduction you'll feel more comfortable with the 'language' of wine, ordering wine in a restaurant and how to explain what you want from a wine when choosing one in the store. With any luck you'll be on the road to a lifetime of enjoyment in a world of wine!

Sign up today by calling Sun Singer at 351-1115.

Cartlidge & Brown 'Dancing Crow' Sauvignon Blanc '08,
Lake County, California
Delicate floral high notes with ripe melon, citrus, mango, and guava suggestions. On the palate, it's zippy and vigorous while offering juicy grapefruit and honeydew flavors.

Couly 'Chinon' Rosé '08,  Loire Valley, France
Fresh and fruity nose with subtle floral notes.
Well balanced, persistent and refreshing.

Chalone Pinot Noir '06, Monterey County, California
Rich aromas of tart black cherries with hints of both clove and nutmeg. Ripe flavors of raspberries and cola follow on the palate. A small amount of Petite Sirah adds richness, giving the wine additional weight.

Bulfon Forgiarin '06, Venzie, Italy
An ancient varietal produced by Emilio Bulfon.  A dry, fruit forward red wine with blueberry and spice.

Borsao Crianza Seleccion '06, Campo de Borja, Spain
Blackberry and blueberry aromas are complicated by incense and dried flowers. Juicy dark berry flavors are liqueur-like in richness, with nervy minerality adding energy. Becomes fleshier and sweeter on the finish, which echoes the floral note.

Lurton 'Tierra de Luna' Malbec '08, Mendoza, Argentina
Typically generous, concentrated black berry fruit, fat and spicy with supple tannins and a long lingering finish.

Have a WaterMark Day!

WaterMark

WATERMARK Cabernets
Napa Valley, California

You see it here first.  This is a winery that I have been trying to bring in to the state for two years now.  Finally we have their wines in stock.

Watermark is a small boutique winery run by long time Napa Vintner Phil Steinschriber focusing entirely on Cabernet Sauvignon.  Phil makes a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Their wines have good acidity and backbone structure and will age nicely for a number of years. Their first vintage was in 2004 and production is tiny at merely several hundred cases of each wine.

The Watermark wines are layered and complex and need we mention available at much less the cost then the Diamond Creek Vineyard wines. Phil's wines are all hand produced.

Now these are a pair of wines worth getting your hands on!
